The growing middle class provided by private property and individuals rather than elites controlling the factors of production fed and clothed far more than charity and sympathy ever could.

Yes, as has always shown true throughout history. But acts of charity and sympathy need to be retained because regardless of the wealth of society there will always be those who fall through the cracks and will require assistance.

Elites controlling the factors of production fed most people in history. Id bet 99 percent of people to ever live were slave or serfs farmers or hunter gatherers under the rule of elites.

Another great teaching brother Gore. Love to listen to your words of wisdom from the past. You are right; in many ways we could learn from them. And we should.

Another brilliant video. I am English, as I said last time, and now I live in Hungary, so this was particularly interesting. I have learnt something of Hungarian history since living here, but I have never heard of this Elisabeth. Her life is not particularly well known here in the modern period. The Elisabeth everyone knows is Sissi, the wife of Franz Joseph. I shall definitely check up on her now though. Thanks again.

Beautiful! I just recently discovered your work and have watched several playlists, enjoying them all immensely, however, I was particularly moved by the stories of Francis and Elizabeth. Thank you so much for these videos! May God richly bless you for your faithfulness!

Bruce your speeches are terrific. The way you explain so clearly that I would like to know where you teach. I live in Florida and I would do my best to attend to your class. Please let me know where you give classes. Thank you

Well, I'm afraid it would be a bit of a commute. I live in Washington State. These presentations are generally part of the adult education program of First Presbyterian Church in Spokane. If you are ever in the neighborhood, I hope you'll drop by! Thanks for your kind feedback.

Pastor Gore’s classes on Greek are also excellent!!! I’ve started them and took a break as I finished my Masters Degree and...recently had some significant health problems. But I’m looking forward to pursuing his Greek courses once again!!!

I love the Prayer of Saint Francis that you read but he did not write it. It was written in the last hundred years. Keep up your marvelous ministry.

Bruce, did you get to see the special garden of Flowers that to this day have never died nor wilted and bleed blood once a year??? I too was in Assisi, and my uncle (who was my mothers brother) was a Franciscan Priest, took us to this special area, and its is closed off from the public from trampling upon it but the people can see and view it, and it does bleed blood once a year and still does to this day. I also saw the little church there that has survived some serious earthquakes. It is inside a bigger church the last I saw it, and that outside church sustained a lot of very serious damage but the little chapel not one thing was damaged on that little Chapel. Thought to let you know perhaps next time you bring up about Assisi, or ever get to visit it again, do look there OK and please mention this as well. I did see the coffins of both Francis and Clare and they are preserved by a special Nitrogen gas so their bodies do not decay and they are still intact to this day. Its located on a distant hill with signs leading up to it. The skin is black now, but they still have the hair on them and the same regarding their facial features is still there. Miraculously for some unknown reason, both of those bodies did not have worms on it when it was found. Usually when you die the worms begin to eat away the dead flesh approximately 4-5 days later, eventually down to the bones, but their flesh remained intact for many centuries until it was opened back up. I cannot explain it but I truly did see it, and do testify to this in full as my sworn affidavit. regards. Dave.

Beautiful stories. One correction is that St. Francis never became a monk, but a Friar.
@GoreBruce

Yes, a very important point. It is part of what made Francis controversial in his day.

Monk means single. Francis was single.

@@PInk77W1 St. Francis took a vow of chastity but was not a monk. There is a difference between monk and friar. Both do require celibacy though.

Keith Mayhew Hammond monk means single. So he was a monk. Friar means brother, which he was So he was both. It’s just semantics. Why someone would say he was not a monk is beyond me. I’m single, so technically I’m a monk. It’s not a big deal.
@CatholicK5357
@CatholicK5357 4 года назад
@@PInk77W1 St. Francis was not a monk. This is not even debatable. You are arguing against an actual fact. A fact is not a matter of opinion. Friars and monks are two distinct types of religious life with separate Orders and ways of life. It is not just semantics. If it were, you would not actually think it mattered. And if you actually thought it did not matter you would not bother to waste your time arguing about it on youtube. Clearly since you favour your own misconception on this matter and feel it necessary to try and convince me, you do not think it is only semantics. You are not a monk. Monk does not even just mean 'single'. It also means solitary. It also means someone who practices religious asceticism. I highly doubt you do either of those things - because those who do don't have time for youtube. You cannot just look up the origin of a word and cherry pick an original meaning to your liking. That is not how language works. The word 'Monk' comes from Greek but his its own meaning that developed in Christendom. 'Single' is one of the root meanings, but not the only one. Your name has the word 'Bike' in it. 'Bike' means something. Therefor you are a bike...logic.

The prayer of Saint Francis was not really written by Francis himself. It has an modern anonymous author - nevertheless, it is in the Franciscan spiritual tradition. A better poem by Francis is the Canticle of Creation - Better known as brother Sun - Sister Moon. It apparently is the first song written in Italian rather than Latin. Another comment is that while at San Domiano Francis hear a voice from the cross: Francis rebuild my church. Francis assumed that meant the church building of San Damiano. Obviously, it was the Roman Church he was to rebuild.

Francis of Assissi and Elizabeth of Hungary and their life of hospitality in the 12th century The lives of Francis of Assissi and Elizabeth of Hungary in the 12th century reflect the life of Elisha and the famines in Israel during his times, the hospitality to the enemy army (such as the Syrians). Whereas there were the Crusades during Francis’ time he was at peace with Egypt living there for a period. Elisha was the first among the prophets to travel outside of Israel, namely to Damascus prophesying the healing of the king of Syria. Both Romans 12 and the 12th Epistle Titus had something to say concerning hospitality: Romans 12:13 (KJV) 13 Distributing to the necessity of saints; given to hospitality. Titus 1:8 (KJV) 8 But a lover of hospitality, a lover of good men, sober, just, holy, temperate; Leprousy was there during both Elisha’s time and Francis’ time.

All this knowledge and yet you still celebrate Christmas. All holidays are ancient pagan festivals. Christmass had nothing to do with Jesus and everything to do with Saturn/Satan.
