Used to watch this movie like once a week as a teen. Mark Ruffalo's character was basically what I wanted to grow up to be, Super nice guy with his shit mostly together lol
I was a bit confused about the tall comment because isn't he shorter than her now? When she was 13 he was taller than her. Could've just meant that he's grown in general.
You can't just come into someone's life after 17 years and expect much, the 30 yr old Jenna didn't care about Matty at all. In fact, Matty was being really nice already.
That boi knows exactly how his best friend treated him on her freakin 13th Birthday! (👁👄👁) But Matty can't remember the Thriller dance moves .. yeah *nice tRY bud* (•- •)
I loved this movie. Jennifer does in my opinion, just as good of an acting performance that Tom Hanks did in "Big." Her ability to convey Jenna's innocence is amazing and you can really see the child in her despite the adult body. Just a really warm hearted love story and an underrated movie.
@@cowart73 But that is not the actors fault, that was the writing team. Remember, the comment is talking about how both actors are good at portraying innocence.
@@hotelzeta24 The point I was making is that Garner's portrayal maintains the innocence in portrayal and storyline, while Hanks's character loses his innocence in the end. He does portray a child well until that point. In fact, his portrayal of a child is so convincing, it makes the "sleepover" scene very disturbing.
Mark nails all the emotions matt would be feeling in this scene. Annoyed, hurt and therefore closed-off but also nervous and happy to talk to her again under the surface.
Matt’s thoughts: oh god she’s hugging me why is she hugging me well we are friends actually no we kinda aren’t anymore this is so awkward someone please help me.
Mark Ruffalo & Jennifer Gardener done a very good job being lost besties & they love one another too!! I also think the younger versions of them were great & very cute together :) this is a must see for romantic people w/being young at heart!!! I've owned this movie awhile but it never seems to get old...re-run it a lot! Ciao
Movies like this are such a rare find in today's film industry. It's disappointing that we don't see more films with the same quality, storytelling, and depth as this one.
awww you can tell he was still hurt from her 13th birthday and everything that happened after that; but he’s still the the kind, sweet matty she knows and loves! Such a warm-hearted, child-like love story!
Exactly my thought too! I'm actually a little disappointed to learn that it's 'fluffy' instead, as Mark's response "A fucking pillow, coming right up...sorry." always cracked me up!
When she says “I was sitting in my closet…” the camera cuts to Matty and he reacts as if the moment that he tried to block out of his memory came back and he remembered EVERYTHING in a split second. Nice job, Ruffalo.
i like how u can see that she's so bewildered about whats happening but then u see she essentially starts to have a breakdown once she learns her and matt stopped being friends haha. the one constant person she thought would always be in her life is not
I remember watching this movie back then years ago before Mark Ruffalo was The Hulk in The Avengers. When I look back at it now, I'm like I can't believe The Hulk before he was The Hulk! Lol XD He was great in this movie as well as Just Like Heaven. Now I wonder how many actors in Hollywood will be next in line to be a superhero in the cinematic universe of Marvel or DC?
Love this movie and Tom Hank's "Big". These movies shows what adults do just because they're adults. Kids have fun with very simple things and that should've been a part of Adulting 101.

Everyone saying that they used to watch it when they were teens and I was born in 2004 lol. I think I saw it for the first time when I was like 9 years, so basically 9 years ago 😂
kelman727 I just finished watching this and it wasn’t really like that. He said himself, when he was about to get married, that he doesn’t always get the perfect ending but you can get something close. He also said that he hadn’t had the feeling Jenna brought sense he was young. Nah, he just wasn’t settling anymore.
I think he was hurt settling with his fiancé. You could tell that he was making a bit of sacrifices for her. Like them moving to Chicago for her job. He didn’t want to do that but went along with it. Like he was content but deep down he knew that he would’ve been much happier with Jenna. But Matt was a good guy who wanted to do “the right thing” i guess and stand by the woman he already proposed to.
I didn’t notice details showing how little Matt cared seeing Jenna with him not hugging her back and immediately asking why she was here over offering her something before asking why she’s here.
They say that Matt is a struggling photographer. Well, he must be a freelancer then. But he's doing better than Chris Grandy, that young hunk that Jenna was crazy about, who now drives a taxi and lives at home.
