Man this video made me miss my father. He taught me most of what I know mechanically but most importantly he showed me to do the work myself to learn new skills and save money.

It's not a torx screw, it is a torx socket! It is used to tighten or loosen BOLTS, not screws. Bolts are screwed into something that's already threaded, screws make or cut their own threads. And screws have more aggressive threads on them. Bolts hold with more force than screws do. I, as a mechanic and engineer, I understood what you meant. Non-mechanical people may not. You may thinking I'm too picky about jargon. But use the proper name of parts and tools so newbies will completely understand! Just trying to avoid confusion. Good job on the shock installation, especially in the cold. I hate, hate cold weather.

The wrench would not be 19mm after all HD is an American made motorcycle. A 3/4 wrench works so much better just to be accurate, otherwise good video.

@@lynndale6235 Harley is American assembled. There are plenty of parts that are not made in America on today's Harleys. As for nuts and bolts, the rear axle nut on mine is metric. 36 mm to be exact and it states that in the manual and there's other metric nuts as well. It is what it is.

You do know that another term for a bolt is "cap screw", right?

I have a sporty 1200 custom. Stock shocks are 11.5", but was thinking of going with 13" shocks, and then using lowering blocks to bring the ride height back down. I'm hoping with more shock travel on the longer shocks, it will provide a softer, more pleasurable ride.

Great video. So how did raising the back and not the front affect the handling on the street and highway? Are you still happy or would you do something different?

MIKE BERKLEY the swing arm sits in between the belt wich means you should move the swing arm back/forth for that to be necessary.

Smart move to go with those shocks. I was thinking of those and all my friends said to buy better shocks. I spent $600 on my Sportster and not totally happy because I wish I put longer shocks on. I put 12" shocks on. On my Road King witch came with 12", I put those 13" Progressives on and they seam totally fine to me. I don't know if would ever upgrade those shocks. Very happy with them for the price.

You don't need to adjust the belt as the lenght between the engine and the back wheel is the same, just the height changed Ps: I would have use some loctite on the screws, just to be sure, nice video Estie ride safe
@olegserov6779

Hi! Actually he do has to adjust belt tension cause the distance between polleys got less due to lowering swing arm driven pulley. He wouldn't have to do that if the pivot point of the swing arm would be the same as the pivot point of the driving pulley.

For next time bottom bolt first. Don't want that shock swinging around and denting or scratching parts.

That's not lube, that was a melted condom. It's a new biosynthetic mix. Helps give the shock a new birth kind of feel.

Sportster are Discontinued now. R.I.P , Yep it was a zombie bike already. In Europe IRON 883 comes with 11 inch of madness suspension and the rest comes with 11.75 inch death rippers suspension . All are rubbish piece of crap suspension and dangerous on bad roads!! , even the cheapest Japanese bike get decent suspensions . Shame on you Harley. The only Sportster that comes with ok nitrogen adjustable touring suspension is the XL1200T, i own one and I'm replacing them soon with 13 inch suspension. If set them low they become instable and dangerous in twisty, best to keep them half way tight that help with general handeling.
