@@empcycleworks yes it performs different than my 1200C, not sure if it's any faster but the torque comes in faster and harder so it's more fun. The 1200 heads breathe a little better so it feels fast too but not as abrupt torque curve as 1275 with 883 heads. I definitely recommend base 1275 kit to everyone that wants their bike to be more fun.

How’s the gas mileage and reliability been?
@nbowling10trio
@nbowling10trio Год назад
@@Supremebean303 not really sure about the exact mileage, it's very comparable to our stage one 02 1200c tho. When we ride all day we both need gas around same time. Reliability has been great. Only issue was the exhaust gaskets are the little square kind in the kit. I went back to factory style bigger ones. Runs great

@@nbowling10trio I’m in the barracks but might rent a space and do it myself or pay a shop. Got a good deal on an 05’ 883 for $2.5k with 22k miles and want a 1200 but might as well just do the kit. Cheaper and better.

Do you have to drain the oil to do a big bore kit ? I just changed my damn oil lol. I know it’s a dry sump system but I don’t know how much oil actually sits on the top end
@Dipndots87-ms6ds
@Dipndots87-ms6ds 2 месяца назад
You definitely should change the oil out for whatever oil the parts manufacturer wants you to run. For an example, let’s say you threw on a 1275 kit and filled the oil tank with brand new 20w50 SYN 3. That oil or any synthetic won’t do a good job with breaking in the parts inside of the engine and can lead to bad problems. I’m not bashing SYN 3 but that’s a synthetic oil that’s available at every dealership so it’s more common.

Good video but what about staggering the ring gaps? And piston orientation? Is there a front and back of the piston (thrust side on these engines) due to wrist pin bore offset? Or is that determined by the valve reliefs in the domes? Would have been nice to see. I'm glad the background "sounds, effects, noise" is lower this time than the first of your vids I watched. It was difficult to stay tuned because of that on the first one, which I subscribed on. Other than that, I wonder how much one of these sportsters can be stroked?
@empcycleworks
@empcycleworks Год назад
Thanks for the feed back! I really appreciate it. These Hammer Performance for the 1275 kit can be installed in any orientation. There is not a piston pin off set, skirt reliefs, or a larger valve pocket on these pistons. Ring orientation can be found in the piston install instructions. Your right. I left out a lot of valuable information in this video. I already shot the next engine video, I will try and add in more detail in editing. Going forward, I will make it a point to include this information. I can give any of the information on this build you need. The background music is something I have been trying when I started doing voice over in editing. I think it ads to the video positively, but your right about the high volume being a distraction. Thanks again for your comment and support.

S&S made several big bore/stroker kits for the Sportsters. They were called the Side winder kits and they came from 79-89ci packages of something similar. They were a match of big bore cylinders and a stroker flywheel. They also made the SS (Super stock 74ci kit which was piston/cylinders, heads and cams. This Hot Set Up puts the "sport" back in Sportster and upgrades any 883, 1100 or 1200 Sportster to S&S Super Stock specification by providing everything necessary for a potent 74 inch street bike. The kit features S&S Super Stock heads and a cam profile that takes advantage of the Sportster's light weight. All components are carefully engineered and matched for dependable high performance. Both regular and high compression versions are available. 74XLSS Hot Set Up A great makeover for 883s! 74XLSS Hot Set Up yields 74 cubic inches and includes a Super Stock cylinder head kit w/valves and springs installed, 3-1/2" bore pistons complete, manifold w/o-rings and flanges, assorted hardware, top end gaskets, cams, adjustable chrome moly pushrods, an HL2T kit, a Super E or G carb kit and installation instructions. Specify year, compression ratio desired, oversize of pistons required and carburetor preferred. 79XLSS HOT SET UP for Evolution Sportsters 79 Inch Super Stock/ Sidewinder Sportster Kit The 79XLSS features our Super Stock heads and 3-5/8" big bore Sidewinder cylinders to go with stock 3-13/16" stroke flywheels. With cams that complement the bore, stroke and cylinder head combination, the 79XLSS is a good choice for riders who don't want a taller than stock performance motor. This Hot Set Up can be built using any set of 1986 and up Sportster cases. A set of S&S heavy-duty rods is recommended in 1986-'90 engines. Balancing is required for all applications. Both regular and high compression versions are available. 79XLSS Hot Set Up 79XLSS Hot Set Up yields 79 cubic inches and includes 3-5/8" bore Sidewinder cylinders, a Super Stock cylinder head kit w/valves and springs installed, 3-5/8" bore pistons complete, manifold w/o-rings and flanges, assorted hardware, top end gaskets, cams, adjustable chrome moly pushrods, an HL2T kit, a Super E or G carb kit and installation instructions. Specify year, compression ratio desired and carburetor preferred. 89XL HOT SET UP for Evolution Sportsters 89 Inch Sidewinder/Stroker Kit Fits 883, 110 and 1200 models 89 Inch Evo Sportster. Bigger than Big Twin performance for Harley-Davidson Sportsters. The Hot 89 for V2 Sportsters turn the "little H-D" into an 89 inch giant killer --- in a small light weight package. Except for the awesome sound and the S&S air cleaner this motor looks like a stocker. The Hot 89 is the largest displacement Sportster engine available that will fit into a stock chassis without extensive frame modifications. Put the "SPORT" in Sportster. The Hot 89 Sport makes the 883 and even 1200 cc machines come alive -- dominating performance, yet dependable enough to ride anywhere. Big bike performance and displacement for your around town motorcycle. 89XL Hot Set Up Fits 883, 110 and 1200 models 89XL Hot Set Up yields 89 cubic inches with a compression ratio that is determined by the extent of head work done. Hot Set Up includes an 89" Sidewinder kit with 4-5/16" stroker flywheels, 3-5/8" bore pistons complete, cylinders, mainshafts and rods assembled, a valve spring kit, an HL2T kit, head bolts, pushrod cover keepers, front and center engine mounts, a Super E or G carb kit and installation instructions. 89XLSS HOT SET UP for Evolution Sportsters 89 Inch Super Stock/Sidewinder/Stroker Kit Select this Hot Set Up with our Super Stock heads. S&S has designed and manufactured the largest practical motor that will fit into the stock Sportster chassis with only minor modifications. These kits are for the serious street performance and competition rider. Our Hot Set Up 89 has gained a hard-earned reputation as the "Giant Killer". Flywheels are balanced and assembled for easy installation. Hot Set Up includes top-end gaskets and necessary hardware. Sportsters 1991 - up require conversion to the 1986-'90 style pushrod cover assemblies. The 89XLSS is available in both 9.5:1 and 12.4:1 compression ratios. 89XLSS Hot Set Up 89XLSS Hot Set Up yields 89 cubic inches and includes 4-5/16" stroker flywheels w/mainshafts and rods assembled, 3-5/8" Sidewinder cylinders, a Super Stock cylinder head kit w/valves and springs installed, 3-5/8" bore pistons complete, manifold w/o-rings and flanges, assorted hardware, top end gaskets, cams, adjustable chrome moly pushrods, an HL2T kit, head bolts, pushrod cover keepers, pushrod tube adapters ('91-up kit only), front and center engine mounts, a Super E or G carb kit and installation instructions. It's a DAMN shame that s&s doesn't produce these anymore!

Some people simply BUY. Some prefer built. I admire the latter. As far as motorcycles are concerned I've always enjoyed riding smaller motorcycles to the heavyweights. I'm old now but I wish I still had my '94 1200 XLH. I gave it in trade to my son for him to install a new furnace for me. He still has it, so it's not like it's completely gone. Still got my 74" Shovel, though, but haven't ridden it in years. Both bikes were tuned to boogie😁 I owned Hondas & Kawasakis in my younger years. My son still has another one of my old bikes- a KZ650 that I was riding late 1970s/early '80s. I put a 720cc Mr. Turbo engine on it. It was crazy fast and I was crazy stupid. It has a CSR type (the cruiser model) engine on it now that I think is about 7 hp less than the original KZ650 engine was. You can undoubtedly tell the difference in 7 hp on a lightweight motorcycle.
