Bret does have the goats (very entertaining) and cats (very playful). So he's not totally alone. Perhaps if he rescues a dog, he can be the mayor & Brent the Sheriff!

More attraction ideas for Cerro Gordo: 1. Invite relatives of the miners to tell the tales of their ancestors 2. Get a school for film makers to make a bunch of amateur western short films in the mining town and have a premiere and award show of the films in the theatre 3. Run a drone filming workshop and film the land
likely because every other mini golf business owner knew building a mini golf coarse in a mine is a lawsuit waiting to happen. just wait till lil timmy walks in to take his shot and 80 tons of stone come crashing down on top of him, or maybe he steps on a random half buried stick of dynamite that was missed in the cleanup process... or maybe he accidentally slips into a 300 foot deep hole... or maybe he gets bitten by a rattlesnake that happens to live in the mine which i hear is pretty common. way too many horrible possibilities when dealing with mines, this is why quite literally no one aside from miners makes a business out of them.
@@Smokey420Greenleaf I heard of a kid named Tommy Nokker, he use to tap his golf club 3 times before knocking the ball into the hidden dynamite at the end of the tunnel.
"The mine that built the town will quite literally build the town again" There's something poetically beautiful about those words. These videos are always an inspirational highlight for me.
as a professional in the entertainment industry. your storytelling is phenomenal. your structure of the storyline is well done. your scripting of the narrations are great. its amazing you do this all on your own. ive shot worse things with a whole crew that played on discovery.
@@GhostTownLiving your welcome, I have been watching from the first one, since I have been enthralled with Cerro Gordo since I was a kid. I grew up in Bishop, and even though I live in LA, I still travel the eastern sierras with my family on a regular basis, its our favorite part of California and likely one of the most beautiful parts of the country. So I know that area well, and through my ghost town journeys all over the back side of the mountains (Keeler, panamint, masonic, etc), Cerro Gordo has always been the Unicorn I have never been able to get to becuase its always been private property. so I can't wait for you to open that place up. By the way, the reason the drone keeps crashing, is likely becuase your model drone doesnt have lateral sensors :) some do, some don't, based on how much you crash that thing, you should get one that does. :)
Really? it seems overwrought. We get it, Cerro Gordo, national treasure, historic landmark, we should all be enthralled. In truth, there is little that is left, and what is is from the last century and barely over 100 years old. He is obviously aware of this, and spends a lot on repetitive embellishment. But, I don't think he needs to do this, it interesting enough with out it. If you read this Brent, keep doing what you do.
@@noleftturnunstoned I have only been here for a few weeks and was glad that this information was still told after a year. not everyone is there right from the start, or is maybe stumbling across one of the videos by accident, without having an overview of who he is and what Cerro Gordo was, you don't even know what's going on. So this will help new viewers that will come in the future too, to get to know all of this, we should appreciate this and hope a lot more people will come here and support him :)
@@noleftturnunstoned I agree. It’s really repetitive watching this in a chronological playlist like I am, from the very beginning until now as a new viewer. It’s annoying. But certainly I’d rather have this than not.
Just found out last week my great great grandfather came from Hungary and mined in Pennsylvania. Died in a collapse with 3 other Hungarians. I knew I had miners in my family, but not to that extent! My grandfather built off his grandfather and rose to Vice President of US Steel in Pittsburgh back in the 80s and early 90s. The history of your town has led me to look into more of my history personally!
Lindsey great story and adds so much as you noted to Brent's story. Both of you are great inspirations to others as many families have great stories of immigration and how they arrived to these lands.
Totally agree, I have said that many times and will repeat: It is a joy, entertaining to watch, dreaming of a visit or just dreaming (I watch on a relatively big screen.)
Like I've always said, this is one of the best RU-vid vlogs based on the subject matter, the quality narration, the great video quality and the great editing. An entertaining and fascinating educational history lesson in each video.
I just commented about this. Yeah, I wonder if it is him or a team. Making all that footage and editing it all in a week sounds tough. Whoever it is, they're doing great work!
I always appreciate that you keep in mind that this might be someone's first video they've ever seen of yours. It always feels so welcoming, even for those of us who've been here since the first month.
@@GhostTownLiving I came in at the first episode right after the hotel burned down. Your raw emotions clutched my heart, and made me cry. It made me feel, what if the Manor (a living history museum where I volunteer), burned down. Then, just two months later, we lost the Manor anyway, through greed, theft, and lies. At least it's still standing though, but unfortunately the new owner cut down the Native-American Signal Tree. :'( :'( :'(
@@yaykruser They are part of mining history, They found quite a few recently in one mine, all showing different designs, and they show the years they were made. The mine owners owned the jeans, and the workers would change into them when working, then change back to normal life clothing... some worth serious money too!
I want to sneak up there late at night and hide an old pair of 501s in a tunnel. Except: - He'd hear me - I couldn't go up there without a few beers and to shake his hand! - Modern 501s are different. - I live in the UK!
Good day Brent; Found this, this morning and thought of you “I go to nature to be soothed and healed, and to have my senses put in order. ~ John Burroughs
Brent I'm not sure what the threat of wildfire is up there in the high desert but maybe getting some sort of old fire truck or truck with a tank, and pump just in case. I can imagine you wouldn't be a man to evacuate so having some sort of plan could hopefully save the town. I've heard this is going to be the worst California wildfire season in modern history. At a minimum create some defensible space around each structure. Also if a campfire or anything else were to get out of control you could handle it before it spreads.
Good call. You can never be too prepared, specially with buildings made out of wood that have dried in the sun for decades. Would be a great idea to clear all the brush around as far as possible for the fire season. When spring comes. Have the goats 🐐 eat the surrounding vegetation to prepare for next years fire season.
Good idea, but given the age of the cabins and things I guess it hasn't been a problem in the last 100 years, however, that's not to say it won't be, and that being prepared for it is a bad idea.
The Death Valley side of the Owens Valley isn't as wildfire prone as the Sierra side. There's less fuel and no chaparral. The high desert doesn't burn as easily as the chaparral mountain environment.
Had my Dad still been around, your channel would be his favorite. His uncle owned gold and silver mines in Nevada and he and my youngest brother, Danny, had a couple of mining claims in the Gardnerville/Minden, NV area. He always seemed to be happiest when he was researching the next mine that he and Danny would repel into. Since I have watched everyone of your videos, apparently some of his love of old mines has rubbed off on me. Be save and keep the videos coming!
13 months later, and the amount you have saved Cerro Gordo is astonishing. Please continue the work you do. We all are so happy for you, and appreciate what you do for us.
Oh, Brent! My God! The music and the drone footage at the end of this video lifted me right up to the top of those majestic mountains. Unbelievable goosebumps! Thank you so much for sharing your enormous talent with us. You are truly gifted!
When you're sat in dark depressing East London you won't believe how much I look forward to watching your show on a Saturday night! I hope one day to see it for myself!! Thanks!!

What a once in a lifetime adventure...
@@GhostTownLiving Yeah he's gotta good point, the town's accepted ya. You'll always be around cerro gordo, when a place picks you, you can never get away haha.
A very subtle "thank you for subscribing" at the end. Doesn't ask for patreon sub, no BS sponsor, doesn't ask for us to click in like button. Much respect.
I wouldn't mind compensating Brent for his work. I understand he probably gets some ad revenue but I feel like contributing to the building of cerro gordo for him and future custodians would be very neat. He can definitely rake in some money once covid chills out with tourism but getting the money now would help build it faster. I would see Brent more likely to make merch or have a patreon for cat/goat livestreams or something, a means where we feel we are gaining something rather than a third party.
I agree. It was so sad to see the beautiful hotel burn to to ground. Cant wait to see how it will be done and how he uses the materials he has around him. AMAZING!!!
Dude you have some serious cinematography skills! If you make a film about the whole project like this, you can feature it in some of those outdoor film tour festivals for sure!
It’s interesting it’s been months since I’ve checked out your channel. RU-vid kept suggesting this video to me at least 5 times today and man I’m glad I checked it out. You seem like you’re absolutely glowing with excitement and joy. Keep it up man, you’ve built something special between this town, the channel, and your personality. You were way more seemingly IMO shy when I first saw you on this channel and now you’ve blossomed
I’ve never been to America, but when his hotel is up and running I want to come and visit from the UK. Never seen such an awesome place and such a super guy whose dedication to his project is an absolute inspiration. I don’t necessarily want to visit anywhere else but this place and THOSE VIEWS! A bit different from the Lake District here (which is also beautiful). Everything is smaller on our island and less distances to travel. It’s on my list to save up and visit the US for sure before I kick the proverbial bucket.
I'm in complete awe, not only for the man you are, the adventures you have and this channel..... but also for the beauty that surrounds you, the way it captivates you and guides you on your path. You are a very lucky man, but also, the wilderness that surrounds you is lucky to have a man like you as its caretaker. Hats off to you Brent!! Love this channel!!
The sheer beauty of Cerro Gordo is overwhelming. It is breathtaking and has so many interesting differences. That cliff is spectacular, the Joshua trees are amazing, and the views are just unbelievable. I won't ever get to make those hikes, and so deeply appreciate you taking us along. You sharing the beauty of your surroundings means everything to me. I am so glad you are looking towards finding more balance. Play is important and your health is imperative. Take good care of yourself as you pursue adventure and your passion.
This is mature content...pure class, simply one of the best things on RU-vid. As I grow older, I find that I look for content that has meaning, either for the creator or for myself and other viewers, this channel provides the chance to see a man find himself in the desert, a man find meaning and purpose in his life. Brent is living a full life, kudos to that man.
Couldn't agree more, and couldn't have said it better myself. This is the most authentic content on youtube, and it is rapidly becoming my favorite channel!
Johnny is literally the best friend that everyone needs if he started a RU-vid channel where he only has a GoPro on filming his adventure with Brent that would be some of the best content!
I think his whole outlook, style, storytelling, poetry & passion.. documentation, awe-envoking soundtracks and yeah his camera work, are nothing short of spectacular! If he doesn't make 1 million subs in the next month, I'm going on a Social Media campaign. More humans need to experience his experiences!
Thanks Brent. After this past year, I was feeling pretty uninspired. Finding your channel has really motivated me. I can't sit around anymore being worried about the rona. Time to knock the dust off and get busy living.
Brent you are the desert version of Dick Prenneke Alone in The Wilderness. Dick went to Alaska when he was 52 years old built a log cabin and lived off the land for 30 years. You are doing something that a lot of us would like to do but life gets in the way. Maybe there will be a day when I can stay in your hotel. Thanks Dennis
Brent you can maybe attach cameras to the goats and capture the footage on where do they wander around the property. It could be good footage because goats are good mountaineers.
theres a show called "Animals with Cameras" I highly recommend it to you, they custom fit and make cameras for each animal since its kinda hard to keep them on. but the footage is sooo cool
Brent is so awesome! I love the vision he has for this beautiful place of American history. I would absolutely love to stay a few days and explore and relive all this history.
forreal hahaha they probably go into the mines expecting dynamite boxes and old crap but then they find a fucking golf course lmao. can totally imagine their "why the fuck" faces.
Reminded me of when I worked at a mini golf course back in the 80's that started in a fake mine shaft with two holes underground before you finished above, oddly enough it was called "The Mine Shaft".
RU-vid will have been archived and still available to everyone, exactly like our literature has been for centuries. they'll probably have known all about it before they even show up.
Dudes straight up rebuilding a town board by board by himself. Holy mackerel. Cerro Gordo is being reinvigorated and history is being written is front of our eyes. Can’t wait to see it all in person💕
Well, he's not building it by himself. There are often volunteers doing work there. Even in this video he introduced some volunteers helping him build.
Brent, cats will head - butt you when they want to show you they trust you. They purr to calm you down, and they rub against you and knead you to imprint their scent on you to say you are part of the clan. Just a heads-up. If they bring you mice they think you are their child or peer and want to teach you to hunt. The older they get, the more they will become independent and only see you when they are missing you or want treats. I have a feeling your cats will ALWAYS want to be near you because they love you.

This video made me homesick, I grew up in the deserts of SoCal even visited Cerro Gordo when I was seven. I live in North Carolina now and would do anything to be back in the Mojave, its the most beautiful place in the world, and the sense of freedom is amazing
I grew up between the Valley and the Mojave. My dad had me good and scared of those abandoned mines on Angeles Forest Hwy! Used to go exploring in Red Rock State Park and got stoned more times than I care to count at Vasquez Rocks. The number of abandoned buildings and mines in the Mojave area is pretty nuts. I live in South Texas now, but my obsession with the brothels in the ghost towns set me on to finish my PhD as an adult.

Thank you for all you do. I was sure I wanted to make a pilgrimage prior to this video, but that off road ride has confirmed that visiting Cerro Gordo belongs on my bucket list. My Harley will not make it, but I have been wanting a dirt bike, so now my 2021 goal is to get the bike, and then make plans to head out of LA when you are ready for overnight visitors. You are doing an incredible job, surely the souls of the men and women who called Cerro Gordo home back in the day are watching and appreciate your appreciation of the history of this area. So exciting to watch the transformation.
Well done sir. Wow! WELL DONE........What a privilege it is to watch Cerro Gordo's rebirth unfold as we watch such a wonderful Man evolve and grow through his experience. This is truly a beautiful gift we have with Brent's channel. I feel so so much gratitude for him and his work. Every week when I tune in I am reminded that too many of us are not truly living, myself included alot of the time.... We live life as though it is a struggle simply to exist and survive another day. We spend most of our time at jobs that we hate away from those we love, never fulfilling our gifts and passions and too often lives are aged and die having never truly lived....this channel showcases the exception, it highlights and details that there is another way...a better way if you ask me. Some where along the way we got it wrong everyone and we became sick, sick with greed, envious and consumerism but it is not too late. Let's be kind to one another, let us turn off the T.V. and lay down the smart phone, let's create, lets get loud because we are still alive! What an inspiration he is. If you actually read all of this, I thank you for reading my crazy hippie rant! Ha! Love You all! #thehumanspiritisstillalive

The audio-visuals after 34:06 are stunning. To have the camera taking in panoramic moving scenes and set to that music. Then have Brent like an insignificant dot in the middle. It was in keeping with what he had said moments earlier. Almost poetry
