WHAT!??? This is so cool. I started learning about I ching and now the Mayan 13 moon Calander. I heard the Chinese legends and such that they had the Calander on the turtles back and that also lead to a math system that they used because of the dots on the turtles backs. I never knew this though. To see it in real life was amazing. I didn't know how they counted the Calander on a turtles back. That's incredible. God is in everything no matter how man distorts the information those who seek and pay attention to nature will follow and find the knowledge.

The gregorian calender implemented, it changed the original calender we had,there were 13 months in a year,with 28 day intervals..the real new year was April the first..called Nisan

@@chriskathy9865 about 7 years ago I found a tortoise shell about that size or a little bit bigger but it still had some of the dead turtle carcass attached . I bought it home as I wanted to preserve it but I didn't know what I was doing and boiled it in water to get rid of the horrible smell .... then I left it outside for a while all I know is , it just did not seem to be something I could preserve.... can you please tell me what I did wrong ? Also I just subscribed . I found your channel while trying to find the significance of 13 to the Native Americans . I was thinking of the song by Redbone , my favorite song by them Chant 13th Hour ,; one of the lines is number 13 give a man his dream.... either that or they're saying number 13 if a man has dreamed.... I always thought it was the latter . I was born in the 13th Hour of the 13th day of the month . The last two digits of my birth year add up to 13 . I always thought 13 was a cool number.... but of course the West tries to tell you it's bad luck but I know it's not .
@@gardensofthegods The 13 also is how many weeks there are to each season. As far as the smell, the sooner a turtle is cleaned the better it is, you might have just found it at the wrong time. Maybe if you sprayed "Lightly" some bleach water on the inside of the shell only, & did that several times while leaving it outside in the fresh air, it might go away.
@@chriskathy9865 yeah the problem was I did not know the proper way to clean it and I guess I should have asked somebody . After I boiled it it's still had a horrible smell and I did add a little bleach and boiled it again but something just didn't look and smell right and I ended up leaving it out on the property... I can't remember after that if it ended up with a bunch of bugs in it or what but that was a perfectly good and large turtle shell that went to waste . I'm a bit superstitious and I found it when I first moved back to the area I'm in now.... I took it as a good omen that I found it . I'm wondering if I could get your opinion on something totally different . Although I love all kinds of animals for some reason I have always been really fascinated by birds . Where I grew up we used to have a lot of ravens and all my life I thought they were beautiful and whenever I saw them it made me feel so good . I never told anyone of this love of ravens but I thought it was strange one evening when a friend asked me how I was able to make myself look like a giant raven . I had no idea what he meant and he said he can only see it out of the corner of his eye but he said I look just like a raven the size of a human . I myself have seen weird things over the years where people may have been doing some kind of projection based on what they identify with and I'm assuming that's what happened . Do you know anything about that kind of thing ? Is there anything you can tell me . Also where I have moved to now they don't have many ravens..... I have actually only seen ONE that looks like the big beautiful ones back home ... and that was in a state park . For me it is depressing as I miss them , so I've only seen one here in seven years .
@@gardensofthegods gaagaagi is the Ojibwe word for raven. Maybe in another life you were a raven? I would ask a Medicine Man or Woman what it might mean.
This is very enlightening. However I would like to point out a correction. The information for counting the days is inaccurate. Most turtles found on the US continent do not have 28 smaller sections (called the nuchal, marginal, and supracaudal scutes). The number ranges from 21-26. Some marine turtles will have 27, counting the nuchal scute towards the head twice to equal 28. In essence, unless the turtle had extra scutes form birth defects, you could not count the days around the shell without counting several scutes twice. Other words this was some great info!
Dec 22 is when the sun is at its lowest point in the horizon stays there for 3 days and starts rising on the 25th which is probably the new season or year .. I agree the calendar is all wrong.. like for example Oct should be the 8th month ..
Interesting theory! I can see 13 moons but biologically most of turtle species have 24 marginal scutes rather than 28. or 25 if you include cervical scute(small one in the middle on nose-end) Most of tortoise species have 23 as 2 of them at the most tail-end is merged into 1 piece. Exception is Alligator Snapping Turtle. This species has 24 marginal scutes and 3 super marginal scutes on each side; total of 30. It is possible for a turtle of have more scutes due to birth defects though.

Not as natural as a turtle shell and perhaps it was a way of continuing the tradition of connection to the land in times of genocide and assimilation by the empire.
