Surprised Monstrous Shrine didn't get mentioned, as the effects were "Well, they sorta can't get free as easily. And they're sacrificed like... a few seconds faster. But only on basement hooks!" Not to mention Slippery Meat, a perk that initially only worked on trapper to give you a chance to wriggle out of his traps easier

@@MichaelMyersIthink Oh that's the fun part. The original version of Monstrous Shrine was an OG perk, so there were no scourge hooks. New Monstrous Shrine is not good by any means, but this was the old one. -Accelerates Hook Progress by 9% (A little under ten seconds if you put them on basement hook) -Increases hook difficulty by 15% (This was from current percentage, not total, so it didn't even negate a Kobe. it just made Deliverance have a slight chance of not working) -Increases Unhook Penalty by 9% (Which usually equated to... survivors still getting three unhook chances, it just ate a bit into second state. This perk remained untouched... for 6 years in this state. Six years of being a completely dog shit perk that was used for meme builds and because you literally didn't have another perk for the slot.

@@Gyrodio current one is still pretty lack luster, although 20% on all scourge hooks, turning basement hooks into scourge hooks, isn't nearly as bad as it's original form.

Monstrous Shrine paired with 1 or 2 other Scourage hook perks is pretty good though. I usually like to run Monstrous Shrine with fearmonger to get survivors off gens etc…

This is something not a lot of people may know but for when Deja Vu was first added. The second you loaded in, the perk activates WHILE the camera did a 180 also took seconds. I believe Tier 1 lasted 4 seconds and so you'd only be able to see the auras of generators during the 180 your survivor does.

So that meant that while it did the 180 turn, depended on where the camera was angled when you spawned, there was a chance you'd get a view with no revealed gens and the perk would've been completely wasted.

Ace in the hole is awesome actually! I use it to farm items with addons! Appraisal, plunderer’s and ace in the hole let me get an item I need almost every game!

I agree it's pretty solid now but it's old version had 50% chance for the addon and you didn't keep it after exiting the trial

​​@@AZHYMOVSYes you did keep the item. Back then if you escaped, the addons were not used. So any addons you got in trial, would go into your inventory alongside the item. They modified ace in the hole to keep addons with the general survivor change to lose addons while keeping the main item.

Blood Pact and Plunderer's are two guilty pleasure perks for me. I still feel bad for Calm Spirit. If you look at it's history, it was gradually getting better and better and during the one update that should have cemented it's worth, it got shot in the foot instead. It being underrated was the first comment I ever made on this channel too. Man, how time flies. Then there's Premonition. No idea how to buff that one.

I think a potential buff would could simply just let you know who you are facing cause that honestly could make me use the perk instead of being paranoid of a ghost face when it's an unlucky trickster or a setup killer

Fun fact: when 'We're Going to Live Forever' was released, it wasn't 'safe' hook saves, it was just hook saves. So survivors were farming each other off hook for more points which was _very fun_

I always put technician on when I play after having drinks. Yet I don’t actually need it because I somehow hit almost every great skill check, which doesn’t happen normally

Current Gearhead is actually very good, because if a survivor hits a skill check in the time it wont reset, it keeps going, so basically whenever anyone hits a skill check with in the time they are shown. Far better than its descriptions leads it on to be.

this absolutely.. at first when I saw the perk I thought it was very underwhelming as I didn’t read the description properly and thought it only activated on the survivor you hit but it actually triggers when ANY survivor hits a skill check which is amazing

I remember old technician and thought back in the day that it was one of the best perk in the game with saboteur when I began playing in 2018's BBQ summer event , for me being able to fail skill checks and having the thrill of not knowing if it will explode or not had so much more emotions than today's everyday matches combined but that's mainly because the atmosphere was way different

Just some weird perk trivia: Technician's minus 3% progress lost on missed skillchecks only exists because you don't go through the 'gen explosion stagger' animation with the perk on. I agree it would be a nice buff to have that removed, but you don't lose anymore progress on a Technician miss than a regular miss, both are minus 10%. The loot rarity increase on Plunderer's Instinct is actually WORSE for chest builds, not better. It skews the pool towards purples and iridescents, which nearly triples your chances of getting a Key or a Map (aka the worst chest pulls). The best toolbox is the green one, and now that all medkits work the same for self heals, the only reason left to use Plunderer's is for purple beamers. Clairvoyance to find chests + Ace in the Hole + Appraisal is a much more consistent and useful chest build than Plunderer's + Ace in the Hole + Appraisal.

WGLF is anti slug now and I consider it an important perk despite it no longer giving BP. However, when I run it, most killers are determined not to slug.

Fun fact Dejavu started instantly when the game started so while the camera spins around your character by the time you had control the perl was gone

NOLB - don't forget that Endgame Collapse wasn't a thing back in those days, so survivors could safely open exit gates.

I have been using gearhead with lethal recently. It's a sleeper honestly. Someone like artist can get super value mid chase and often hit multiple different survivors. Pyramid Head also can get some nasty shots with aura reading from it

Obviously No Mither is one of the worst in the game, benefitting the killer more than the survivors that bring it, but I also feel this is the case for both Autodidact and Potential Energy. The former needs a ton of skillchecks on heals in order to break even and is very likely to cost survivors a health state at a critical moment, while the latter slows progress down quite a bit if it's used, and even more so if it's used and the user gets hit before they can dump their progress.

Open-Handed was OP because you can stack it with another so when you played with friends you had 32 meters more, maybe not OP but its was pretty funny

Alright, gotta critique a few of these perks. I know you didn't start playing DBD back during release and the wiki isn't that accurate so, if you can withstand a bit of reading, I hope this helps. Ace in the Hole wasn't that good to start, though the change to give you two addons instead of one was solid and can be good in item builds since, if the medkit nerfs were any sign, items are/were very strong. Back then you would keep addons when escaping a trial anyways, so it wasn't mentioned in the perk. However with the addon change to make you lose addons when escaping a trial (but not the item itself) Ace in the Hole now makes you keep the addons you escape with. Which, besides a white ward, is the only way to keep addons when escaping a trial. Dark sense was also during the time of fast generators, and NOED being a non-hex reliant perk. DBD back during 1.0 was a different beast and Dark Sense could be useful for when Solo Q was common. Remember: Old Brand New Part. Gens would fly, infinites would be used, and as such dark sense would be a good counter to the only thing one of the 3 killers had: Endgame slugging. Off the back of that, No One Left Behind in current year is useful for how, during endgame, killers will camp to secure a kill. This perk allows you to get an unhook and with a few other perks can turn a hook trade into an unhook with you only being injured. If it turns into a trade from STBFL, the unhooked still runs faster than the killer with basekit BT putting you at 17%, 2% faster than the killer. So, even if the killer planned on camping and turning a 1k into a 2k, it still only keeps him at a 1k. in 1.0.2, Having NOLB +Self care + We'll Make it + Botany Knowledge would make you almost outheal the killer dealing damage, so it was nerfed. Endgame Collapse was added in 2.8.0 or so I can't really remember, and so they buffed NOLB while nerfing it as well. 50% action speed, but only when Endgame Collapse started (since camping was still common then and they must have not wanted to remove camping). Then when people started 99ing the gates, and after YEARS in typical BHVR fashion, they reverted to when it is being powered. Plunderer's Instinct was during a time when people did not know the maps, and when there were only a few items in the game. Then as people learned it became useless, and so as they added more items, they added the chest odds. Surveillance written on the wiki isn't accurate to how it behaved in the game even on release. You would have a gen regressing, either from kicks or ruin, and it would show the 3 most recent regressing gens in white until they either ran out of progress or they were worked on. So, if you ran ruin, and someone tapped a generator, it would reveal it in white. It had a good synergy for figuring out where survivors were working on generators. As ruin was meta for a considerable amount of time, surveillance would add to its power and give you info as well. Surveillance worked with failed skillchecks, including old ruin if you hit good skill checks. Predator was just a 'fuck you lightweight' back in the day. Like you said, it was just the exact opposite of lightweight. Though lightweight was and always has been a general perk, where Predator is a wraith teachable. Considering how terrible the grind was back when wraith was released (aka when the game came out) predator was not worth it. Then they decided to nerf it for some reason. WGLF was the farming perk of DBD and with the grind that existed when David King came out, it was frequently ran. Back then BPS were a lot rarer, and the standard offerings such as the Bog wreaths and sachets in their rarest forms only gave 25/50/75% bloodpoints. The only way to get large amounts of bloodpoints fast were to either farm them or bring WGLF and BPS. Farming was also a reportable category back then on the endscreen, and as such I believe you could get banned for it. (It also made people be more altruistic, even if it resulted in being farmed off hook at times.)

I was actually running gear head last night on death slinger and it worked great, i could snipe people off gens and had a pretty high kill count. It's not amazing, but i think it works well on the killer it was made for

wrong, original wglf *did* do something in game. it gave your teammates a 100% increased chance to get farmed off the hook with no BT

BEhavior made the game, Naughty Bear. Maybe the actual character Naughty Bear could appear in the game as a Killer? His lore could tell that the voice/narrator from the original game could be the Entity speaking to Naughty Bear.

Even now these perks are still so menial it's almost not worth taking unless you make a full build and if you have to take a full bill to make it useful you might as well not even use the perk 😐 and it's funny how most of them are on the survivor side 🙄

ace in the hole was a very good perk before medkit nerfs i usually get purple medkit with green and yellow addons from chests or greenmedkit with purple addon and yellow addons or flashlights with good addons i usually give flashlights to my teammates because im very bad with them so it was a win win situation

You could also combine it with old Pharmacy, which would give you a PERMANENT chest looting speed bonus in addition to your first search giving a guaranteed green medkit. Honestly one of the most nonsensical and stupid nerfs to a perk ever done, new Pharmacy is objectively trash.

In fact deja vu was even worse back then, unlike lethal pursuer deja vu actually showed you the gen auras at the very very start of the game, as in, while your camera is panning around and you cant move. Easily the worst perk in all of dbd history imo

I disagree about Gearhead, personally. I think its new version is genuinely pretty solid- _Good_ skill checks are way more common than _Great_ skill checks, and seeing auras for eight seconds is long enough that it's entirely possible you'll catch a survivor running away from their gen with the tail end. It's genuinely pretty good! A mid-tier tracking perk.

I think gearhead is a good perk on mobile killers like hillbilly. You use that with pop, down someone with you chainsaw, and then it tells you where to go with that pop.

Whenever people nowadays complain about DbD balance I just laugh and remember how terrible it used to be. With these atrocious perks you mentioned being skewed off by several extremely overpowered perks, people should be thankful to not have to deal with Machine Gun Meyers, perma-sabo hooks, trappers trapping under your feet on hook, or how every killer could run Iron Grasp and/or Agitation to basement hook you from anywhere on the map.

Surprised you didn't touch on Pharmacy at all. The original version was a solid perk that gave a permanent bonus to chest-looting speed in addition to the guaranteed Emergency Medkit on your first search. It was a fantastic perk for chest-looting challenges and treasure hunter builds, cutting down the amount of time needed to open chests drastically and providing items for your team without wasting too much time. The current version is terrible and with the nerfs to medkits, you're better off bringing Self Care or Inner Healing. Anyone who tries to make an argument for original WGLF being terrible didn't play back in those days. Not only were bloodwebs more expensive, but prestiging a character meant you lost all of your items, offerings and addons as well as perks. On top of that, unlocking teachables meant they had a chance to show up in the bloodweb rather than became learned on every other character, meaning you might have to spend millions just to get a perk to level 3 on a new killer or survivor. To make matters even worse, matchmaking bonuses didn't exist other than the rare holiday or weekend event, and rank reset didn't shower you with bloodpoints. So both original BBQ AND WGLF were meta simply to reduce the tedium of the grind, even if one was the best tracking perk in the game at the time and the other was...well, useless.

ngl Gearhead isn't actually that bad (current version) it's good if you're playing hit and run on higher mobility killers (with Lethal) like blight or nurse. Could also be good at locating which gens are being worked on to pressure later

75% longer blind should come back. But at a price of a very powerful effect. Example: Exposed survivors now take two instances of damage from any source. So, huntress hatchet hit on an exposed survivor instantly downs them, an M1 on a survivor with endurance instantly downs them (1 hit point loss for endurance and another onto injured) etc. At a cost of 2+ perk slots and very long blinds you get a chance to put a definite end to any exposed survivor next to you.

you are so wrong about blood pact First, in solo gameplay teammates just ignore you, go away and then the haste is lost Second, now it activates after finishing the heal, before if the killer interrupted you, the haste still applied enabling you and the obssesion to reach a loop Blood pact is now an awful SWF perk, just like Power of two.
