If you pay close attention, you'll see that the show takes place in 2017, and Hannah didnt kill herself until September of this year, meaning she is still alive in our time, right now.

one thing i hated about hannah's death was that she loved her parents so much, but they were the ones who had to find her dead in the bathtub. they are the ones who are going to have to live knowing their daughter took her own life and they will never get another hannah. everyone on the tapes will, at some point, move on and get on with life. but it would never be easy for hannah's parents to move on.

GUYS ACTUALLY PLEASE TAKE THE TIME TO READ THIS!!! I have a new theory. It's really crazy and I don't think the producers thought about it, as it is more of a coincidence. Let's say Tyler was going to not only kill everyone on the tapes but just do it at school since he would kill himself anyway. There has been a theory saying that Tyler's deposition was a foreshadow of him making future tapes explaining why he killed who he killed and essentially why he did what he did. Of course he'd want to kill Monty since Monty had been the one to give him the hardest time I think, and I don't think he'd end up killing the councillor or he might. Here's the coincident. In 1999 the biggest school massacre at the time took place at Columbine High School in Littleton CO. Two teenagers by the names Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold walked w/ the intention to blow up their school, however the bombs they had planted had failed to detonate. They ended up killing 13 people that day. 12 students and 1 teacher, before ending their lives making it 15 in total. THIRTEEN PEOPLE DIED THAT DAY. Eric and Dylan experienced strangely similar acts of bullying that Tyler had experienced. Thats not all though. These two boys filmed a series of TAPES known as the Basement Tapes explaining WHY they were going to essentially blow up their school and how they were going to do it. Idk it seems VERY sketchy to me. Especially cause this could go two ways. Alex dies, and he kills everyone on the tapes but then goes after monty making it 13 people he kills and goes after the councillor and that would be the 1 teacher that dies. or, he doesnt go after Mr. Porter, and alex lives, and he kills everyone including monty. LEMME KNOW WHAT YOU THINK ABOUT THIS BECAUSE I'VE RESEARCHED THE COLUMBINE MASSACRE FOR A WHILE NOW AND THIS JUST HIT ME. 1 YEAR UPDATE: y’all. I don’t wanna say I told you so. but I fucking told you so. My theory may not have been exactly correct but the producers 100% followed the columbine theme. There were a few things I didn’t mention in this post a year ago about the columbine massacre, but I’m going to mention them now since they are relevant. Stay with me. So the very last episode where Tyler attempted to shoot up the prom happened on April 20th. The columbine massacre took place on April 20th. That’s the biggest thing that made this so obvious. Here are some other things. Tyler is kind of a nerd. The two boys who shot up columbine are Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold. In this season, the producers portrayed Cyrus (Tyler’s new friend) as Eric and Tyler as Dylan and I’m going to explain why. Cyrus is punk rock and is more edgy and way shorter than Tyler. Now the shorter part might seem irrelevant now but it’s not. Eric was also more edgy and punk rock than Dylan and he was also significantly shorter than him. Eric was 5’9” and Dylan was 6’3” Tyler is significantly taller than Cyrus. Tyler is clearly into photography and is a total tech nerd. He tries to do good in school and he essentially wants to find love and to be understood. He has a good upbringing and strict protective parents. Dylan Klebold was also into photography and he was also a major tech nerd. He also had a great upbringing and rich parents who were very protective of him. Do you remember how Tyler’s parents told him they thought Cyrus was a bad influence on him after they both committed felony vandalism and Tyler had to do that program to shorten his probation? Well, a year before Eric and Dylan shot up their school they went and broke into a van and were later caught and they both had to a program just like Tyler did to shorten their own probations. Afterwards Dylan’s parents told him they didn’t want him hanging out with Eric anymore because he was a bad influence on him. Another thing that was very obviously taken from columbine was when Cyrus and Tyler went into the woods and shot guns. Well, a month before columbine Eric and Dylan would go up to woods and practice shooting their guns. This is one of the most infamous and iconic known facts of the columbine massacre. Also the whole stereotype for carrying in duffel bags into the school comes from columbine. Another obvious thing that is iconic to the whole columbine story is the fact that Tyler and Cyrus made custom shirts to wear to school that said “assholes” well, Eric and Dylan went to a crafts store to make their own custom shirts representing their hate for the school to wear the day they shot it up. Eric printed the words “natural selection” on his shirt and Dylan printed “wrath” on his. These were the shirts they wore the day they committed the tragedy. The “assholes” shirts Cyrus and Tyler wore represented the shirts that Eric and Dylan wore. ONE OTHER THING THAT SEEMS SMALL BUT ITS NOT IS THE NAME OF THE LAST EPISODE “bye” you might wonder why this relates to columbine but this was the last word Dylan Klebold yelled at his parents before walking out the door and going to shoot up his school. This is also a really iconic and infamous fact from the columbine shooting. And also another obvious was the jock stereotype. Tyler wanted to target the jocks and it was the jocks who gave Eric and Dylan a bunch of shit. That’s where the whole “jocks bullying and getting targeted in school shootings” stereotype comes from. THE LAST THING THAT CONVINCED ME THEY WERE TRYING TO HAVE THE COLUMBINE STORY WAS WHEN TYLER SHOWED UP TO THE DANCE AND CLAY RAN OUTSIDE WHILE TYLER WAS GEARING UP TYLER DEAD ASS SAID “get out of here, clay. Go home” and I shit you fucking not when Eric Harris pulled into the columbine parking lot the day he and Dylan shot it up, his friend brooks brown walked up to him and told him he missed the this big test and Eric said “it doesn’t matter anymore” and then Eric said. “I like you brooks. Get out of here, go home.” THOSE WERE HIS EXACT WORDS IM NOT EVEN JOKING LIKE THEY MADE TYLER SAY THOSE EXACT WORDS. I think Tyler emotionally represents both Eric and Dylan while Cyrus represents the physical aspect of Eric and whatnot and Tyler represents the physical aspect of Dylan. SO YAH I FUCKING KNEW THEY WERE GONNA GO ALONG ON THE WHOLE COLUMBINE THEME OH MY GOD

You are absolutely adorable! I agreed with everything you said! I literally watched 13 reasons why in one night. I couldn't stop. The scene where Hannah's​ in the bathroom really stuck with me. I've been there. I was bullied throughout all my years in school, I was even betrayed by my own best friend. This show is absolutely amazing. ughh i can't get enough of it! I hope there's a season 2!!

I don't think Tyler shot Alex because if you watch Behind The Reasons, the producers and everyone involved were saying how most people ignored Alex's signs of depression (even though i didn't and i was SCREAMING at my laptop because everyone didn't see it) and how Hannah killed herself affected everyone around her, including Alex. The people behind the show basically said that it was Alex who shot himself

I recently lost my cousin and then this show came out and I wasn't too sure if I wanted to start it or not. I finished it over a few weeks because it was too much to handle all together. 13 Reasons Why definitely changed my perspective on other people, their situations, high school drama and all that stuff. It was truly eye opening. They did an amazing job.❤

another theory is, in the back of the ambulance, the person who was severely injured had brown hair. so i think it could be Justin or Bryce, Justin seemed insanely suicidal (Jessica didn't seem to care about him anymore, and his mum didn't want him in the house anymore) he said he was thinking about killing himself, and that no one would stop him. took a gun from his house, so why would he actually need a gun? Bryce could be the one in the back of the ambulance because Justin shot him.

Alex's character was the most iconic for me because while everyone else was worried about the tapes getting out, Alex was the only one who cared about what Hannah had went through. Alex was the one who said "were the reason Hannah killed herself" while everyone else was like "no one can find out". Alex basically said if it gets out, then it's out. His signs were that he was so messed up about what he did to Hannah that eventually led up to her suicide, that he couldn't take the guilt while everyone else was still worried about what would happen to their own butts.

If clay stayed, he wouldn't be clay. He would be Bryce. A guy that won't take no for an answer.

I dont think Tyler shot Alex. Bc why would he. When Tyler was in the photo room with all the pics of everyone he had a flash back to when Alex pulled off/stopped Montee from messing with him. I'm a middle aged parent who watched this with my son. I hope more parents will watch and discuss with there kids. These issues happened when I was in school. It's important to discuss with our children rather than ignore. Schools are trying to get people to not watch by sending g letters to parents. The fact that these issues continue and the schools would rather sweep under rug than help. It's a real shame. I think the show was excellent, showing several issues and the repercussions. They didn't over do and unlike the schools who are upset about it, maybe they should look more at themselves instead, because it seems they could be afraid of potential lawsuits and wish to keep issues hidden. I truly hope there is a second season, help and closure for all involved.

The good thing about being a psychology major is knowing/realizing all of these conspiracies as I was watching. Especially with the Alex situation. I think there was a lot of signs that I was catching onto. And Tyler has the guns because he is planning a school shooting, I'm sure. It reminds me of Columbine. Tyler literally had a hit list through photos. I don't know if he killed Alex or not, but he took his photo down. But Alex also had access to guns because of his dad being a cop.

As you said, I to feel like Tyler shot Alex and made it look like he committed suicide. The thing is though, I watched the last episode a few times to see if I was missing anything. Not surprisingly, I was missing something. Before Hannah did what she did, she was cleaning up her room and tidying up around there. Well, near the end, Alex's father came in to talk to him. Alex seemed a little more down then he usually was but there was also something that he was doing. Alex was cleaning his room, and there was no other obvious reason why he would be doing that. Also in one of the episodes, I cant remember which one, Justin told Alex that he would do what he did. Well, Alex immediately struck back with, "So if I killed myself, would you die to?" There is clear evidence that Tyler could be going on killing spree though. For example his chest with ammo and a machine gun. Also, this is very clear evidence but it needs to pointed out, Tyler took down the picture of Alex after he was shot and then the camera went over every picture of someone that has bullied him. I personally think that Alex was going to attempt, but then Tyler came in and shot him, then made it look like suicide. Yet, Justin also took a gun from his house and Jessica has her dads gun safe. So tell me, who do you think killed Alex, and how?

Literally loved this show just because of how powerful the message is.

Ok...so yeah, that is Mr. Porter's job, but the whole point of the show is that EVERYONE has shit going on in their lives. He just had a kid, it was said multiple times how his wife needed his help, and he just had shit going on. If he didn't have shit going on, if maybe he hadn't thought that call was from his wife or something, he would have gone after Hannah. I think the moral is that no matter what side you're on, the person having suicidal thoughts or the person that has a societal responsibility to help a person with suicidal thoughts, we all have to stop taking each other for granted and realize that we don't know what someone else is going through. Mr. Porter let her down. They all did. Suicidal thoughts and depression aren't things to be taken lightly and require help. I know, it's no excuse, but Hannah did the same thing to each person on her list that they did to her. She didn't stop to think about what was happening in their life. Except Bryce. Fuck Bryce.

My theory: (current season of 13 reasons why) In the last episode we see Tyler pack a gun. We hear that Alex go shot in the head. Tyler has pictures of all of them and takes down Alex's picture. (Next season of 13 reasons why) Tyler kills all of them taking down their photos one by one... [Kinda makes sense...]

What I love most about this show is how they show the different effects of bullying. 1. The suicidal 2. The guilty suicidal 3. The school shooter. Then they show the ones who question and watch after the suicide. Then you see the ones who blame shift

I so agree with that Jeff Atkins meme.😟😭😭😭😭😭😭 As far as Tony is concerned, I took his role earlier in the series to be an enforcer role. Not necessarily to be there when Clay got to his tape, but to run interference with 1-10, in order to protect Clay. Being that Tony was the first one to hear the tapes, he was well aware of the possible underlying sentiment to block Clay from finding out what had happened. If you notice the vibe shifted negatively amongst them, as they became aware that Clay had the tapes.
