Fun fact: The organ solo in House of the Rising Sun had to be shortened in order for the song to be played on the radio. Years later, the same thing happened with the Doors Light My Fire

I enjoyed the snippets of the songs - maybe not forgotten, but always nice to remember. So thank you. However, I stopped watching due to the puzzling and intrusive honkytonk piano background music. Not really conducive to the soulful, psychedelic sixties :)

The sheer number of songs released boggles the mind. All it took, was to cut a demo, make 50 copies, and drive around to the local radio stations and get a DJ to play it on the air during the evenings when kids were listening. Then wait and see what happens. No 'video' needed to release a song, like later after the MTV generation came about. By the 1990's, there were sometimes only 13 songs to reach #1 FOR A WHOLE YEAR. This doesn't mean those songs were so great, just that there simply weren't many good songs being released.

Besides Elvis live on Ed Sullivan, and the Beatles live on Ed Sullivan. I remember Jim Morrison live on Ed Sullivan. That was his first and last appearance with Ed. The Supremes were live a lot on Ed Sullivan, every time they had a new hit, about three times a year. I can also sing words to Mae West songs, Jo Stafford. Busby Berkeley soundtracks. The Judy Garland song book. Funny Girl songs. All that stuff from the Graduate. Proco Harem. I still have a trunk with 300 45's, bookshelves with vinyl Sticky Fingers and Divine Miss M. Dozens of Broadway shows, all vinyl. Not forgotten for a moment, not by me.

@@screwyootube1 Sure, I understand that. But I consider “never heard” to be different than “forgotten.” I thought this video was going to dig deep and find some good old songs that faded away over the decades - including from airplay on oldies stations and classic rock stations. This could include songs that fans liked from the albums, but that for whatever reason never were big hits as singles (or maybe never even released as singles). I think we all can think of those kinds of songs. South City Midnight Lady from the Doobie Brothers pops into my mind as a song that I think could fit into this category. I’d be interested in a video like that, because I’ll admit I have a pretty shallow knowledge of music myself, mostly just knowing the biggest hits.

You should have mentioned the connection between Jerry Lewis, the MDA Telethon, and the song You will Never Walk Alone. That song has definitely taken a life of it's own far beyond that of what the group that recorded it could have ever expected.

The 13 songs from the 60s You Forgopt Were Awesome should be made into an album by itself. This would be a powerhouse compilation.

And now some awsome songs that we REALLY forgot, instead of golden oldies.

There was a time in 70's and 80's I thought all of my favorites were lost in time. Then came along Columbia House tapes later CD's. Still not enough. Today, I can type in any of my favs and a music video appears is ready to play. Tech is marvelous.

Also, 'Sunday Will Never Be the Same' by Spanky and Our Gang. Another great song from the 60's that seems to be overlooked.

I think there are a lot of songs that you could have picked for a “forgotten” list besides these. But this was well done.

The Kinks had many other songs that were more "Awesome" than Shangri-La. Dedicated Follower of Fashion, Lola, A Well Respected Man, Sunny Afternoon, to name a few. As said earlier, the rest of these songs are hardly forgotten.

Although the "House of the Rising Sun" had an awesome guitar sound, my favourite Animals song by far was "It's My Life". As noted in another comment, the Blues Magoos "We Ain't Got Nothing Yet" totally grabbed me. I liked the Beach Boys "Wouldn't It Be Nice" better than "God Only Knows". There are so many songs missing from this list. For example, "Western Union" by the Five Americans, "Itchycoo Park" - Small Faces and on and on............

I agree with the other commenters… These songs are not forgotten if you grew up in the 60s and 70s. But hopefully this will spur the future generations to take a look at the songs mainly because they didn’t forget them. They just didn’t know about them. It was music at its best. Next time you might dig a little deeper… For songs like “ time won’t let me” buy the outsiders… “ dirty water” by the Standells. “ incense, and peppermints.” Strawberry alarm clock, etc.. good luck with your channel… I’ll subscribe and keep an eye out!

Reaction videos are rediscovering great music and artists from the 60’s and 70’s. It was like they thought music only started in the 2000’s.

Some awesome songs on this list. However what blew me away was #12 "I Can't Explain". It's still my favorite rock song with its distillation of teenage angst and frustration. It's everything about why folks create rock.

I'm born in 62 and I remember songs before I was born because I was the youngest and song up to the 80s/90s. I never forgot the music.

Nothing here I'd forgotten about. But great to see Shangri La recognised here. Shangri La was not a hit anywhere. Radio didn't like it, and thought it was too much of an attack on suburbia. Hardly anybody, outside of dedicated Kinks fans remembers it - or even heard it. The main reason the Kinks never once performed the song live. Yet I hold it as one of the greatest songs ever written by anyone.

I remember all of these songs. Several of them have always been favorites for me. Top of that list is Crimson and Clover. It was a song that had a unique sound I could not resist listening to. Mom bought the 45 and a record player for me the year it was released. I listened to it over and over! (Pun Intended) There are some other songs I think you should have included from that era, like "The Birds and the Bees"; a song my brother who was just 2 years old could sing flawlessly. Jefferson Aeroplane had the iconic hit "White Rabbit" was an obvious reference to psychotropic drug use. And several more that were greats in that time.
