13 Volts Why no Start , Sears Suburban Garden Tractor. The battery still showed over 13 volts , but it would not start the garden tractor , sears suburban . I tested battery with a volt meter with no load . I should of showed a volt test on battery under load . Riding mower battery. This sears suburban garden tractor battery showed voltage , but only 46 CCA out of a rated 420 cca. .I used a Foxwell battery tester to find out the battery was bad in my sears suburban SS14 garden tractor. The garden tractor did not start with the bad battery. Testing battery can easily tell you if it is a battery problem on your garden tractor , sears suburban SS14 . Garden tractor repair , Battery testing, Garden tractor no start , wtbm123

Thats a nice diagnostic tool :-D I had to explain to a frend the same thing, you can stack up AA cells to make a 12 volt battery, but they don't have the capacity to deliver the current required. Im sure you will be keeping an eye on your batteries now, catch them before they fail :-D

You did it right. Current flow is jsut as important as voltage. Nice demonstration.

Good testing . Many ive tried to boost that were showing 13 v and a no crank would spark trying to boost as well just putting the booster cables on.

I have found out that a lot of batteries go bad on lawn equipment because the electrical connections have resistance and the charging system has the wrong reading to charge when it is not really needed. This overcharges the battery and cooks out the water from the solution. This is one really big thing that kills the cells inside causing them to bulge, short and die. That is what I have found out over the years. Hope that helps.

Also many go bad because they are not secured down . Thanks for stopping by and sharing .

@@wtbm123 Just thought of this, When a battery discharges and voltage is super low. The water separates from the acid. Now the cold weather can freeze and expand or bulge out the cells shorting out the plates. This really happens a lot. A battery cannot recover from this scenario. PERIOD. Nice video fella too.

The best battery tester is the one the battery is installed in. If it wont start it, bad battery. There's your dinner!

Unless it is a bad connection , or a starter drawling high amps . You may replace battery and still have the same issue

13 volts is not that high most chargers will push a lead acid battery to 13.8 volts . Calcium batteries may go to 14.8 volts . Some modern car batteries are calcium now , not lead acid . Not sure how the cars alternator charging system handles that .

Huh. I've got a similar problem, my volts read fine but my cca is severely depleted and low. I was concerned maybe it was an actual load issue on my battery but I don't believe it is after this. I think I may simply have a battery.

@@wtbm123 God bless you brother, this helped tremendously. Was able to go and swap the battery and did not have to waste money to attempt to find a drain. A new battery completely resolved all my issues. Your video is extremely useful. No one else is showing a problem like this nor mentioning that cca and volts don't always coincide I can't imagine how many people could have this similar problem yet end up chasing their tail to find something else that's a problem

I threw a voltmeter on my battery and checked voltage drop before I watched this video...my volts dropped to the low threes, high twos...isnt a voltage drop of more than .2 volts a good indicator?
@wtbm123
@wtbm123 3 года назад
Yea if trying to start and voltage drops to less than 10 v then could be a battery , but sometimes a bad starter will also put a lot of draw on a battery.

Hey Terry, what's your thoughts on leaving a jump box/pack in vehicle in the summer heat and in the cold winter weather. I'd have it plugged into the cigarette lighter of course to keep it fully charged.

2.2 volts per cell typically so a fully charged 12 volt battery should show 13.2VDC.
