1997 may have produced the best BYU football team ever.
Led by All-American quarterback Steve Sarkisian, a dominant defense and a dynamic running game of Ronney Jenkins and Brian McKenzie, the Cougars won the most games in BYU history and cemented their spot as one of the greatest teams that Provo has ever seen.

I was in highschool and had to leave early for a highschool marching band thing. I was so mad I had to leave the Texas AM game early. Oh well I got to see BYU beat Miami and a lot of other great games.

Reporter to Sark, on coming to Texas as coach: Do you think having no Big XII experience will hurt you? Sark: If winning two bowl games against Big XII teams as the BYU quarterback counts, I’d say I already have great experience beating Big XII teams.

As a Texan I have a lot of respect for BYU. Hook'em. When the Rival with Texas A&M is restarted, Sark will still be beating A&M, lol

It's too bad they haven't done anything since then. Ya they had some good teams with Beck/Hall at QB but they still lost several games those years.

The Doman/Staley team was just as good or close to it. They could have jeen top 5 if not for Staley Injury

The WAC was garbage in 1996. I graduated from Fresno State, so I saw it first hand. Kansas State was overrated...catching Texas A&M at home at altitude at the beginning of the season, was a fluke. They ended up 6-6. Mediocre team taking advantage of a bad conference.

Hahahahahaha..discount WAC (1), Kansas State overrated (2), Texas A&M at home (3), at altitude (4), at beginning of season (5). Five excuses, one Fresno State alum, and 24 years of bitterness is amazing to see.
