If you disconnect the emergency brake cable at the splitter bracket, then disconnect the brake line at the wheel cylinder, you can use a socket and extension to get the flange bolts and pull the entire backing plate assembly off with the cable still attached. It makes for a little less to disassemble.

Check out this link to help identify which axle you have. lugnut4x4.com/axles/14-bolt-axle-identification/ Also use this link for tons of good information about the 14 bolt www.billavista.com/tech/Articles/14-Bolt_Bible/index.html Thanks for watching and good luck on your project

Were you able to use your stock rims with the conversion kit because I'm doing a '95 Chevy dually I'm having clearance issues. Are you using 16-in rims???
@Offroadfarm1
@Offroadfarm1 3 года назад
Yes, my stock 16 inch rims fit with no issues. My rims are steel. I assume they are stock, they are cheap looking steel rims, but yes they fit with no issues. Now they are tight! But no rubbing that I have noticed. Thanks for watching

When converting from drum to disk does that shorten the WMS width? Cause I got a 14 bolt out of a van which is about 70" and i need it to stay 70"
@Offroadfarm1
@Offroadfarm1 5 месяцев назад
I think my WMS width stayed the same. If it did change it was minimal. Per lugnut4x4 website any changes should be less than 1/4 inch. Thanks for watching

you have the stud mounted drums, i have the slide on drums i wonder if i have the same process with install an removal also what year is your truck?
@Offroadfarm1
@Offroadfarm1 3 года назад
The process will be similar. lugnut4x4 has a kit for the newer style of 14 bolts with slide on drums. If you opt for the slide on rotor then you won't have to press or knock out your studs. He also has a kit that will go behind the hub and you will have to knock those studs out. My truck is a '88. Thanks for watching!

@@Offroadfarm1 i still don't understand what rotors i need to get, the slide on rotors for stock vehicles or rotors behind the hub. mines a 1996 k3500 with slide on drums i don't have to remove hub to get drum off
@Offroadfarm1
@Offroadfarm1 3 года назад
You can get either. Keep in mind regardless of which style rotor you get you will still have to pull the axle and remove the hub so that you can remove the dust shield/backing plate and then install your new caliper mounting bracket. Slide on rotors : remount the hub, slide on rotor, install caliper, mount wheel, done(don't forget to hook up and bleed your brake system) Rotor behind the hub: Press or drive out all 8 lug studs on both hubs, put rotor behind hub, press or drive in all 8 lug studs per hub through rotor into hub , remount hub, install caliper, mount wheel, done (hook up and bleed brake system) The slide on rotors are easier to install but cost more. If you have access to a press and want to save some money then you can get the behind the hub rotors. They will save you some money but will take a little longer to install. (If you don't have a press you can still install the behind the hub rotors to save some money. You will have to knock the lug studs out with a air hammer or a BFH, it will take longer and be more work but it's totally doable.) Also make sure your running at least 16 inch wheels to clear those new calipers! Hope this helps Let me know if you have any more questions Thanks for watching

is this kit for dually 14 bolt full floater or single wheel?

@Offroadfarm1
@Offroadfarm1 2 года назад
No I don't. Check out this webpage. www.billavista.com/tech/Articles/14-Bolt_Bible/index.html It has tons of info on the 14 bolt. About half way down he talks about the difference between SRW and DRW. I believe you can simply change the hubs to SRW hubs, but I have never done it before so I am not certain. Thanks for watching and good luck on your project!

I'm going to be doing this same conversion on my 1994 k3500, and I will be doing it in my two car garage, so I'm wondering how much side clearance I'll need to pull the axle shafts out on either side of the truck, Does anyone know?
@Offroadfarm1
@Offroadfarm1 2 года назад
Measure from the center of your rear chunk to the axle mounting surface. This will give you a rough idea of how long your axle shafts are and how much room you will need to pull them. Once you get close to the end you will be able to angle the shaft some. A quick search looks like your shafts should be around 32 inches long. I would say you would need at least 30 inches of room, maybe 32. Good luck on your project and thanks for watching!

Curious as to why you’d pry the brake shoes off as opposed to using the proper tools to remove the springs. Ones the springs are removed, the shoes come off easily.

I don't have drum brake tools and they were easily removed with a long screwdriver. Also I had no plans to reuse anything, it all when in the scrap bin. Thanks for watching

How much you fugue it costed to do the swap to discs brakes roughly mind you im in canada im thinking of it
@Offroadfarm1
@Offroadfarm1 2 года назад
My kit was roughly $600. That did include the E-brake calipers and new bearing which added close to $300. Their basic kit for a 14 bolt starts at $315 but shipping to Canada per their site is $150 which is high. You may be able to find a company in Canada that offers a similar kit and save on the shipping. TMR customs does offer a kit which includes the bracket, rotors, calipers, and pads for $429 CAD no idea about their shipping charges. Good luck and thanks for watching
