If it wasn’t for people like him, I’d never see this side of the world or aviation that flies it. That’s what the internet is for. It helps expand our knowledge and gives us what we couldn’t otherwise achieve. Huge props to this man and his hard work.

Noel, when you're in hot environments like that and feel like you're going to pass out - get a bottle of cold water and wrap it in a t-shirt out of your luggage to help insolate it and keep it cool. Then find some paper towels or use a small piece of clothing (a clean sock perhaps) and wet it down with the water. Place it on the back of your neck and dab it on your wrists and inner elbows. That will help cool your core temperature. Rewet whatever item your using once it becomes warm. Also, if you can find a quiet corner where you can lay on the floor (if it's not too dirty), that can help. Spreading yourself out on the ground will disperse your body heat - and being close to the ground is cooler as heat rises. Hopefully those are helpful tips for you! Also, if you know you're traveling to hotter areas, carry an old fashioned hand held fan with you. God bless and thank you for sharing your adventures!

I said it once and I’ll say it again this channel really does a great job of balancing what the realistic expectations should be for the average traveler. I love how the focus is more on the bigger nonnegotiable things we should expect from these airlines over the less critical stuff like rather or not the flight attendant kissed our ass when we boarded the plane.

My first flight to Africa I got an appreciation for how big it is. Left Spain about midnight. Had the lights of North Africa for a bit and then just dark emptiness. Had a full night's rest and still had more than an hour to J'burg
@KyrilPG
@KyrilPG 2 года назад
@@stevenroshni1228 Yeah, I've had very similar experiences on Paris Joburg flights, also leaving CDG around midnight. In the mid 90's the huge void of dark emptiness was even more pronounced than today and I remember it like it was yesterday, that I was stunned by either the pitch black ground on new moon flights and on the contrary a kind of "western movie blue filter fake night" effect on full Moon flights. The ground, perfectly lit by only the Moon, with an almost total absence of ground lights in many areas made the view breathtaking. It felt like an impressionist painting of different dark blues. The way less enjoyable moments were the cumulonimbus supercell encounters at the Congos and Cameroon latitude, near the equator, that turned each flight into a thrill ride from hell. And during that 1996 summer it turned out to be deadly :out-of-this-world extreme turbulences, flying meal trays and luggage in the cabin, screaming passengers. I remember a Joburg stop on the way to Capetown that took twice as long due to passengers requiring medical attention. Certainly some of the most memorable flights of my life.

Thanks for the ride-along Noel. I rarely make it all the way through a 30 minute video, but I lasted all the way to Johannesburg on this one. The best flight I've ever had was on an Alitalia 707, Kinshasa to Rome. What made it the best flight ever was not where I was going, but where I was leaving from. That of course was a long time ago, and things have changed somewhat since then. What I would not do, is visit the DRC without arranging for a friendly welcoming committee to meet me at the airport.

When I worked at Glasgow Airport I asked one of the ladies at the suitcase wrapping office why people wrapped their suitcases in plastic. To me it either suggested you had a posh bag which you didn't want damaged (don't buy a posh bag), or you possibly had something valuable in your bag you wanted to secure. Unfortunately the plastic wrap advertised the fact. It was primarily Emirates passengers who did this ex-Glasgow, and the main destinations were in Africa. The threat of theft wasn't an issue in the UK or Dubai, but once you arrive at an African airport (don't mean to generalise) it's fair game to anyone who cares to try their luck. I've never heard of anyone stealing a manual toothbrush, so there might be a lesson there regarding technology. Thanks for an amazing video.

I once did a Nairobi, to a country in Western Africa in an old 737 with stops in virtually every capital from Eastern Africa to Western Africa. Because of my company’s travel regulations I was obliged to travel in business or first class. The country’s national airline put one First class seat next to a large wooden crate of cargo that traveled across Africa with my “silent” crate of cargo.

Hi, Noel! Your videos make me so happy! I had a stroke inJune(we don't know why, as I don't have high bp) and just came home a couple of days ago. Your videos were one of the very few things that kept my spirits up. I'm rather young to have had a stroke, and two years ago, I suffered cardiac arrest, so I haven't had a very good time. Watching your videos made me feel better. Do you have plans to go to Kenya? If so, you must go to Nakuru. It's a lovely town, and my adopted brother lives there. He is a priest, and serves at the cathedral. I understand the cathedral is very beautiful, if you like architecture. Nairobi, of course, is a very lovely modern city. It's definitely worth visiting. I'm hoping to go to Kenya, maybe next year or the year after. I'm a jewellery designer, and Kenya has Kazuri beads, my favourites. So.....I'm stuck at home for the rest of the year. Maybe in the spring I can travel again. I plan on spending next summer with my cousins in Manchester, and travelling all over the country; as well as Scotland, Wales and Ireland. I think England is so beautiful. Skipping London, though. Too many people!

@C2K777 2 года назад
CM IS right about they said and it may be worth pushing your physician regarding the matter IF it's applicable. I imagine you'll need to be pretty firm in your insistence that it is looked into PROPERLY as from most the reports medical staff the world over seem quite adverse to looking into the subject properly needing a polite refusal and insistence that "oh no it wasn't that but I'm not gonna explain what I actually did to establish that statement" is not an acceptable response to your request. Remember that they are obligated ( often by Law in most locations around the world) to FULLY investigate and provide evidence to you as a patient when it comes to such a serious health concern. I'm not getting into the rights or wrongs of the whole thing. This is more some advice on ensuring that everything that could potentially be fatal is properly addressed. Now to reassure you a little. I've had 2 TIA's ( mini strokes) and 1 proper one at the tender age of 44 due to long term health issues leaving me vulnerable to, well pretty much anything that could go wrong! Depending on the severity of yours ( I will guess it was fairly bad if you were hospitalised for that long but of course no need for you to discuss your private health matters in detail in public forum) you'll most likely be offered either some physiotherapy and/or speech training. DO stick with these if offered. Medium & long term they can have a MASSIVE effect on your day-to-day life and ability to get back to how you were before. It can be really frustrating at times but as an example there was a guy who stopped doing his due to how frustrating it can get & I saw him a couple months ago whilst having a check up and he's now lost the use of most his facial muscles. BTW if they haven't offered such things to you then don't panic it's likely coz there isn't a need for it BUT if you do find your muscles ( facial or otherwise) becoming 'lazy' then go to your Doctor or Consultant asap. Best way I can give you as a good warning indicator is what I've called 'The Coffee Test' If you find your grip when picking up the mug is a bit loose or you have to grip it a 2nd time or if you start missing a couple drips when taking a drink of it then THATS when you seek further help. All that said I'm all good( well as much as I ever will be haha!) and nobody would have a clue I've had the 3 so it's perfectly possible to live as normal after them.
@ecclestonsangel

@@C2K777 it was pretty bad. I also had seizures, something I've never had before. I'm going on what I've been told, because I remember nothing. I have to take tiny bites of food and sips of beverages because my throat collapses. I am receiving PT, OT and ST, and I've come along pretty well. I have an autoimmune disease that might have contributed ⅚in the stroke. I'm also immunocompromised. My doctors don't want me traveling in case something happens, they can get to me quickly. It's not forever. My doctors are rather overprotective. They worry over me, as my health is so fragile. But they also don't want me to not have a life. So, they work hard at finding middle ground. My 1st, and the 'proper' stroke was triggered by a heart attack several weeks before that happened due to me getting electrocuted and them missing some stuff when I was resussced / treated for that. The two TIA's were linked to me being immunocompromised and therefore being more at risk of my body not handling things as well as others. Whilst I'd probably say a trip to the back woods might not be the cleverest move and being sensible is a given travel is fine, imho, as long as you have good insurance and stop to think about what/ where your going/ doing. I was in the 'shelter at home / highest At Risk group and I went to both the Bahamas and St Lucia last year. From the UK those are 10-12 hour flights for starters and I took a coach trip up a mountain rather than hike the thing but I was fine and, again imho, it's important to remember to live your life. When you nearly lose it it reminds you that you owe it to yourself to experience and enjoy the life you kept hold of. Even if you need to be a little more considered and sensible whilst doing it. All the best for the future and hopefully this just being a one off in your case.

My toothbrush always comes in my carry on lol...its precious. Always use it in transit and layovers and last thing I want is a security officer in a ex colony deciding to get his revenge on the monarchy by putting the bristles of your toothbrush somewhere you don't want to know about. 😁

Well done for surviving this so cheerfully. I would have been fainting in coils and demanding to be taken home in an air-conditioned private jet! Maybe that's why I've stayed home for 15 years!! 😊

I feel your pain about losing your electric toothbrush. Back in the 70s was going to the Soviet Union. When I finally got my bag in Moscow my new tube of was missing 90% of a new tube of tooth paste. So the question I had was why didn't they just seal it? And what did they us to take my tooth paste home in? Yeah the heat can be insane there. Enjoy your videos very much.

all Ethiopian airlines long distance flights going to Canada or the US and Brazil must make a technical stop either at Lome or Dublin due to fuel issues as they can't take off from Addis Ababa with full load

Superb content! I hope you’ll get on board some of those MD80s still flying pax in Africa. I know you’ve probably already returned away from Africa but at some point it would be very interesting to see some MD80 flights like maybe with European Air Charter

Asky do seem to offer a pretty good service overall, connectivity, reliability and on board service, they really are a cornerstone of West African aviation. Take them out and its probably quicker and more reliable to go via Brussels than it is on other African carriers for many certain routes, like Banjul to Accra or Dakar to Brazzaville

Surprised that the Lomé hub for Ethiopian and its subsidiary- Asky was so sweltering. Anyone know if that NEW terminal was meant to be air conditioned? Thank you

You keep popping up on my timeline here while being here and addicted to, RU-vid. Maybe, we could go to, Nakhon Sawan, Thailand. And stay in a suite, from the roof of a hotel, looking, Over, Nakhon Sawan Park. The view is amazing, with only memories of being ever being there, in, 2010.

I’ve stayed at the protea hotel, I had an interesting experience in the transfer van. The driver stopped on the way as someone flagged him down as the luggage trailer door was open. Not realising why we had stopped was a pretty scary experience at night.
