BTW Zoo Zurich Has A Beautiful Elephant Habitat Mainly The Indoors

Some info about the enclosure in Pairi Daiza: Their main family group is 14 elephants. they have some young bulls. The two elephants that are alone along the train ride are actually a female african elephant and a female asian elephant who grew up together in a circus. they tried to put the african elephant with the other african elephants and the asian elephant with the group, and it didn't work. They missed eachother to much. they won't put them in the same enclosure, but they put them in a place where they can see, smell and hear eachother. That is why Pairi Daiza has quite a few enclosure. the elephant habitat has a total area of 4ha I believe.

Artis is my local zoo, and it is really quite sad to see the elepahant make the almost dance moves almost everytime i visit(which is once per week after uni). But the enclosure is really pretty, and the rockwork doubles as nesting boxes for local birds and bats! Which is really cool! The inside is only open on quite days because of the bad acoustic in the building

Krefelds outdoor yard reminds me a lot of the old outdoor yard for african elephants in Magdeburg, it looked really similar. Luckily they now have a new gigantic area and the old yard was turned into a vulture and porcupine aviary

I believe the problem with Krefeld is that the zoo really wants to give its elephants to another zoo but local politicians keep blocking that. That's why they're also very open about the fact that once their elephants are dead they won't get any new ones. I believe they want to add the elephant exhibit to the rhino exhibit once that happens.

when i was young there was a circus in steenwijk, i think it was called renz. i stole a bunch of hay there and just walked a few meters and fed it to the elephant that they had there. their skin is very rough. 2 years ago i also interacted with elephants, there where 2 of them that time. we could get realy close to them, they are retired circus elephants (the other one from renz is to i think) i also fed them some grass. i also was in the backstage erea of the elephants once at the beekse bergen.

The fake log in the Wildlands enclosure you were talking about, with the holes, is indeed for feeding enrichment. That log was also purposfully made to be that size and in that position so that the elephants can scratch their bellies on it. There are also feeding enrichment holes in those steep side walls and those walls are also textured and shaped the way they are, so that the elephants can scratch themselves even more.

Tbh, I'm not wild about feeding elephants by hand as it can be a safety issue for guests. I'd rather someone feed them with a large wooden spoon or a stick. The main reason for this is because if an elephant grabs at someone, that's a big PR woopsie. If the elephant grabs the wood thing, it's fine. So I'm for guest feeding of elephants but in a way that the elephants can't grab someone's hand.

I've only seen Indian elephants at Chester Zoo.

awesome stuff. so interesting to see elephant exhibits in Europe, they seem so much cooler than those in the US as for the elephant feeding, while i agree the focus should be on how to respect wildlife in their natural habitat, it provides a great opportunity for everyday guests to form a personal connection for these species and to inspire the continuation of conservation work. giving people the ability to, safely, interact with those elephants who will never be able to live in their natural ranges and learn about them fosters a love and respect for them. as long as the interactions are appropriately monitored and remain safe for the guests and animals i see no harm. and there are so many benefits for exposing people to these amazing animals and their conservation stories as well as an interesting enrichment opportunity for the elephants. most of all, let people interact with them in a safe monitored way rather than endangering yourself and elephants, as well as disrupting their natural lives, by interacting with them in the wild.

Indian Palace🛕 as Big Stable, 2. Tropical Parts from Asia🌏🌴🌺 & 3. Big Lake for Bath🌊🐘) and I call it 🌺🛕🌴🐘🌴🛕🌺

hey man ik vond je video echt tof meeste parken heb ik zelf ook bezocht, en ben het inderdaad met je eens over zoo de maubeuge dat het verblijf qua grote wel iets groter kan maar wou je nog corrigeren op het feit dat ze daar 2 stieren hebben omdat hun verblijf dus te klein is voor een kudde wat je dus ook bij antwerpen ziet dat ze alleen jonge stieren houden omdat hun verblijf ook niet meer voldeed aan de eisen en ze natuurlijk in niet kuddes meerdere stieren kunnen houden maar die natuurlijk ook een thuis nodig hebbe, dit is voor de rest geen haat :)

Shame on you, sign boy Also: the water _cannon_ in Wildlands doesnt reach the land area, it can only reach the water. I think it gets turned on whenever the elephants go into the water
