I love seeing mixed species elephant exhibits. That's part of the reason I like both exhibits here in the Netherlands. I am beyond excited to see how the new BB area will turn out!
Wow, this African Elephant Habitats it's so COOL!!!🐘🌍🤩😉👍 I like for African Elephants to have so Huge Enclosure (Indoor so Big Stable for Nest🐘🛌 and Outdoor like African Savannah🐘🌳🌾 with Big Lake for bath🐘🛀).
Yes I will! I'm losely going A-Z with the animals, but skipping ones I'll get more footage off in the nearby future. I made a list yesterday of the first 70 animals (african buffalo-hippo) and there's only 6 I won't be seeing more of anytime soon, so those 6 I will start working on videos for haha!
Wuppertals enclosure was amazing when it was built in 1995 (their two elephants used to life in the tapir house in today's pekari enclosure...) but it definitely needs an upgrade. The cows are still kept in close contact! Update plans include a removal of the u-moats to make that area accessible for the elephants and a better use of the indoor space. Their bull will move to Ouwehands soon(TM), where he lifed untill 2019 before the zoo's switched their bulls. The longer term upgrade plan/ wishlist until 2030 includes a expansion of the elephant area, turning it into a mixed species enclosure, an expansion of the current stable and the construction of two new stables for the bulls and for the other species of the mixed species habitat. What we will get depends unfortunately on the city council who has to finance it
Daisy, one of the elephants in Duisburg is from the circus while Etosha and Saiwa (the other two) are from Culling... I think the stereotypical behavior comes from there, even if the facility is not good for African elephants. The Elephant Exhibits of Erfurt, Magdeburg and Opel-Zoo are very beautiful, modern African Elephant enclosures in Germany
In a lot of these cases the elephants will have come from worse conditions, the same is true for even Pakawi, but that doesn't make it better. I'd love to visit those zoos some day! There's so much to see in Germany haha
@@justGoron I also didn't want to say that it makes it better and I agree that it's good that the elephants are leaving Duisburg I know most zoos in Germany and there are really nice ones, Zoo Berlin, Zoom Gelsenkirchen and Zoo Leipzig are just a few examples :) The Opel-Zoo is my local zoo and I'm very proud to say that we have one of the most beautiful elephant enclosures in Germany, mud bath, sand bath, two large pools and above all beautifully landscaped with lawn, trees and bushes, the three elephants love it haha
Interesting, the zoos I've been to that have elephants don't have an indoor viewing area for them. I do live in a warmer climate, so the elephants don't have to spend as much time inside.
That makes sense then, while the elephants can be outside during most of the winter here, they still need to go inside at times, and it makes little sense to have such a big ticket animal and not be able to see them.
For some reason I never build for elephants in planet zoo, and I have said it a bunch and I will say it again, this makes me want to build for them even more than I did before, and that makes it deserving of an australian national anthem Australians all let us rejoice For we are one and free We've golden soil and wealth for toil Our home is girt by sea Our land abounds in nature's gifts Of beauty, rich and rare In history's page let every stage Advance Australia fair In joyful strains then let us sing Advance Australia fair Beneath our radiant Southern Cross We'll toil with hearts and hands To make this Commonwealth of ours Renowned of all the lands For those who've across the seas We've boundless plains to share With courage let us all combine To advance Australia fair In joyful strains then let us sing Advance Australia fair
