If you watched a video about a piece of hardware looking for a piece of software I can see how it would be confusing. You can play “electric” music in any piece of software. If you’re on windows it has windows media player along with other players. If you are wanting to record there are a bunch of different programs that you can use not just one. These programs are often referred to as DAWs or digital audio workstations. The best one for you all depends on you. Try a few out and see what you like best. Here’s a video with some free DAWs that might help you decide ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Un6xUqBWSe0.html

@nature vs nurture if you want free, Amplitube Custom Shop can be great as it comes with a lot of stuff in the free version. If you want paid programs then check out the full version of Amplitube or Bias FX2. Also Tonex is decent and Native Instruments Guitar Rig. Here’s a video with 10 free amp sim plugins. Not all work in standalone mode though. Some will require you to use a DAW to load them in. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-nQxpf2dIbcQ.html

Question: I have the Scarlett Solo 3rd Gen. I also have professional studio speakers connected to my iMac. I was told that when recording to use headphones but for mixing to use the external studio speakers. So, when I record, should I disconnect the studio speakers so I (only) hear audio from the headset?
@AudioTechTV
@AudioTechTV Год назад
@@OTCRock4one if you are recording anything with a microphone then yes. If you’re recording a guitar or any other instrument that is directly connected to the interface then you won’t need to. The lack of a separate headphone control is one of the only negatives about this interface.

As you skipped a step, here's one. Don't install the official Focusrite drivers! Use the Windows ones. If you use the Focusrite drivers you will end up with very low volume levels on your mic input. The Windows drivers solves this. You will however not have an official ASIO driver for your DAW, but you can at least decide. Focusrite will not fix this. The latest drivers from Focusrite still does not fix the issue.

I got it and I can say it's a sweet little piece of soundkit. However I do have to use APO equalizer with it as it is so flat it's a bit too "cold" sounding. I use this config to make it a bit warmer on both outputs (I use Sennheiser 660s and Edifier speakers) and it's now in media consumption too if you want to use it as an all-rounder for your Windows PC. It responds insanely well to EQ as well. GraphicEQ: 20 0; 25 0; 31.5 0; 40 0; 50 0; 63 0; 80 0; 100 1; 125 1; 160 1; 200 1; 250 1; 315 0; 400 0; 500 0; 630 0; 800 0; 1000 0; 1250 0; 1600 0; 2000 0; 2500 0; 3000 0; 4000 -1; 5000 -1; 6000 -1; 7000 0; 10000 0; 12500 0; 16000 0; 20000 0

Good information Zane. I just recently received my 3rd Gen and am using the ProAR condneser microphone. My voice is low, really low and I have turn the gain nearly all the way up. Your video aided me with obtaining levels and I'm going to do some recording to find the right sweet spot for me. I was so excited when I received it that I didn't register it until today after watching your video. The software packages Focusrite offers is definitely a great bonus to be taken advantage of. I'll definitely keep in mind about turning off the phantom power. I generally eject the Scarlett from y laptop before shutting everything down completely. Take it easy and I wish you much success on your channel!

Hi! Did you solve the issue with the low sound? Also, is the cable the comes default good or did you change it? I could nit understand tip 14 with the Mic Cable.
@AudioTechTV
@AudioTechTV 7 месяцев назад
@dennisvice3162 if you’re talking about the default USB cable you should definitely use that one. If you’re talking about the mic cable that comes with the Studio bundle, yes it’s a great little mic cable. No problem with it. Tip 14. Use a proper xlr mic cable. They have xlr connections at both ends. Don’t use an xlr to 1/4” trs cable. They have xlr at one end and trs at the other. If you use that second type of cable your mic won’t sound good or possibly won’t give you sound at all.

I setup my focusrite and put my condenser microphone in and it works, but it doesnt support my headphones and i have to plug them somewhere else, but in my daw if i use my focusrite usb asio i cant hear anything, so now im stuck, i dont know how to fix this issue in FL. Got any advice?
@AudioTechTV
@AudioTechTV Год назад
If it’s because your headphones have an 1/8” connector then you can get a 1/4” adapter and connect your headphones that way. This would be the most ideal. Another option would be to get the free ASIO4All driver and that lets you route audio. So you can use the Focusrite as the input device and then use your onboard soundcard as the output or whatever output device you want. This is not ideal as it will introduce latency but it’s a work around.

@@AudioTechTV yo brother , can I ask you this .. on the back of mic there's 2 switches... one that has zero to -10db and the other has a straight line and a curved line.. what are those for
@AudioTechTV
@AudioTechTV Год назад
The first one is a -10db pad. When enabled it will reduce the input by 10db which can be good for recording really loud sources. The second thing is a high pass filter when put into the position with the curved line it will roll off some of the low end frequencies. You’ll have to look at the info for that mic to see where it starts the roll off. When it’s in the straight line position that is the normal position with no filter.

Unfortunately, the Windows ASIO drivers are completely broken on modern systems since they produce a very low-volume sound from the mic. There are a lot of guides throughout the Internet that suggest to completely remove those drivers and use the default ones. It solves the volume problem, but you lose control of the interface and some sound quality too.
@AudioTechTV
@AudioTechTV 4 месяца назад
Interesting. I have very modern systems and I only use the asio drivers. There is no low volume sound from the mic. I’m not sure how a driver would affect the mic as a driver doesn’t do anything to the hardware. I can’t imagine anyone that’s serious about recording suggesting to remove Asio drivers from their computer. Removing Asio4all yes but not a manufacturers Asio driver.
@ivansukin721
@ivansukin721 4 месяца назад
@@AudioTechTV the sound on the monitoring headphones is actually good and has the expected volume. The sound on PC at the same time is too low volume. I have Win11 and Scarlett Solo 3rd Gen. Why do you say that drivers doesn't do anything to the hardware? Drivers can actually control the hardware behaviour and somehow process the data they get from it.

Is there any chance to put some effects on the Monitor sound? Thanks for your help.
@AudioTechTV
@AudioTechTV 3 месяца назад
If what you’re wanting to do is add effects to the main stereo output, you can easily add some effects plugins to the master track in your audio software and those effects will output to your monitors. If you want effects between the monitors and the audio interface so the effects aren’t actually in the audio output then you would need to use a hardware effect or connect the outputs to a mixer that has effects built in or hardware effects connected. So you would connect the monitor outputs from the interface to the hardware effect or mixer inputs and then output to your monitors from that. A mixer would be more ideal in this situation.

@AudioTechTV
@AudioTechTV 3 месяца назад
It only has 1 mic preamp so it’s designed to handle 1 mic. You could get a mixer and connect multiple mics to the mixer, then connect that mixer to the Solo but you would need to record all the mics to just 1 track which isn’t ideal. You would be better off getting a 2i2 or an interface that has the number of mic preamps that you need built into it.

Here is my setup Mic: AT2040 Interface: Scarlett Solo Is this going to give me a mono mic signal?
@AudioTechTV
@AudioTechTV Год назад
Each input is a single input (mono). So plug your mic into input 1 on the Solo and make sure you have your software set to record or stream to a mono track. If you record or stream to a stereo track then you could have issues with it coming out of one speaker only because when recording in stereo input 1 is left and input 2 is right. So it all comes down to how you setup your software.

Hi. Can i use this focusrite for concert? I want more or less decent sound, better than default laptop audio out. Also sound recording. I want this: laptop -> focusrite -> audio mixing console (f.e. Yamaga MX12) -> speakers (800wt). Which outputs to use: front side single TRS out or back side stereo pair outputs? Also was wondering which audiocard is better: focusrite or Audioquest Dragonfly DAC? Thank you very much

I dont have sound. I have the s350 Edifier speakers with the sub woofer but they dont have this kind of jack to go through the Focusrite solo. What can i do to have sound through my pc? Thank you.

You’ll need to get a stereo 1/4” to RCA cable. They are usually around $10.

Please tell me how to put my Xbox one through my scarlet solo so I can have audio through my monitors
@AudioTechTV
@AudioTechTV Год назад
On the Xbox side you will need an adapter that can take the hdmi out from the Xbox and will output to either 1/8” line output or rca cables. Now The Solo isn’t the ideal interface for this type of use because it doesn’t have 2 line inputs but you could connect cables from the output of the hdmi to audio adapter to a cable that has 1/4” trs for the right side and that would go into the line input, then you will likely need a 1/4” to xlr adapter so you can plug the left side into input 1. Because one side will be taking the signal at mic level and the other at line level you will need to adjust the gain so the sides are kind of even. An interface with a spdif input would be ideal as you could go spdif output on the Xbox to spdif input on the interface. Or an interface with at least 2 line inputs would be great for this as you could go from the hdmi adapter to a line input on both the left and right side.

6:39 I’ve been recording guitar by connecting the headphone out signal of my amp into both 1/4” inputs with a cable that splits. Do you have any suggestions for how to optimize the sound quality this way? Should I turn on the focusrite instrument setting? Thanks for the great video!
@AudioTechTV
@AudioTechTV Год назад
If you are going headphone output of amp to the Focusrite then use the line setting. Instrument is for when you’re connecting your guitar directly to the interface. If your amp outputs in stereo then you can connect it to 2 inputs but if it’s just a regular mono guitar amp you only need one input. If your amp has a cabinet sim on the headphone output then you should be fine with the sound going in but if it doesn’t you may want to try using a cabinet sim effect on your guitar track.

Go to the Focusrite website, register your device and you can find the software from there. I think you can also find it if you go to the support section and downloads area.

If you are talking about when I mention to turn off the 48v phantom power before you disconnect a mic all you have to do is press the 48v button again so it’s off. If you pushed it once to turn it on for a condenser mic then push it again to turn it off before you disconnect the condenser mic.

You can if you want. Or you can turn it off when not in use. That’s what I do as it kind of acts like a mute button. But be sure to turn off the phantom power before disconnecting or connecting the mic.
