It should be called the Ent-DEF prototype class. A good example is that the Ent-E crashed its forward section to damage the Reman dreadnought. The sections of the Ent-D's Saucer would be added to the Ent-E's Saucer and Primary hull. The end result would look similar to the Century class from the Bridge Commander&STO game.
I never thought of it as a failure. I think STARFLEET just got comfortable without any major issues from any unfriendly species. They did upgrade them as they should have in the DOMINION WAR. Once this happened we saw the true power of them.
all nations prepare to fight the enemies that they know about. Luckily for the Federation that they build every ship to be upgraded in the future. Even the Excelsior can be upgraded to be able to fight the Defiant close to an even footing.
Nice ship but they need to class it as the Galaxy 2 to be fare. To create a new class they should start from scratch and should not take a ship already built and give it a refit overhaul and call it something else. I would feel ashamed if I renamed a class of ship already classified and built but it is a nice makeover for it.
@@TriAngulumStudiosAudioComics I do like the design...But STOs visuals, especially in the STO only models..put me of so hard...The whole ship movement..that lightstreaks behind the ships..For me,Bridge Commander is visually more pleasing..more fluid Maybe i should give it a new try though..been several years since i last played it
It's awesome to see older ships redone with more modern-era stylings too. The Obena-class from Lower Decks was another good one! Keeping the general shape and look, while upgrading to make it look like it's not just a century-and-a-half old design!
I loved Shields of Tomorrow, yet I still need to watch Clear Skies! Eric is an amazing GM, and watching him lose his mind mind over her appearing in Picard was heart warming! As far as I'm concerned the adventures of the USS Sally Ride, USS Ross, and this video series is canon.
Looks like a great one, ...though I bet they could still have a whole lot of nice ambassadorial quarters, (And not necessarily need to go to barracks, at least not for the regular crew, just cause the volume of those ships is so huge.) I expect the Federation would still have call for big livable ships, especially if they were going to serve as like mobile starbases for smaller ships and sector fleets. I've always thought looking at the Galaxy class as 'A battleship they stupidly stuck families on' was kind of wrong, cause the idea was more 'A moving research university town that of course you defend seriously cause it's dangerous out there.' Of course, finding other uses for something about as big is almost inevitable. (And, I mean there's so much volume to work with, making em work as fighter carriers and industrial replimats are very good ideas. ) Anyway, there's still a lot of real estate in ships that big, someone did some calculations at one point and found the Enterprise D vastly underpopulated by volume as it was even with families aboard. :)
You have to do the Yamato Class variant with it's heavier looking design. If The Ross Class is a beast I can only imagine what a great story you'll craft for that design. This class is cool the way it looks like the intermediate or merger between a Galaxy Class and a Sovereign Class.
I just want to add a correction to my request. I meant the Andromeda Class Variant. The Yamato Class dreadnought is the variant of the Andromeda and is a monster of a ship worthy of it's own vídeo. Either way and no matter what I'm always looking forward to the next story to come.
I love your narrative for the ross class! I still to this day wonder how Starfleet ever let Riker near another starship after the loss of the Enterprise-D lol
My biggest wonder about any refits done to the Galaxy Class is if they ever gave the Saucer section warp capability? There is nothing that I could find that even gives a hint of even a warp sustained so I'm still to this day 35 years later ( yes I'm old ) wondering how the D's saucer beat the star-drive to Farpoint when it was going the opposite way...?
Did it make it into alpha canon or beta canon if Star Fleet figured out how the Duras sisters were able to bypass the D's shields? WE know because we are the audience watching the movie from 3rd person perspective. But the bird of prey was destroyed. And then the D bit the dust a few minutes later. She's got those massive computer banks in the saucer so maybe they survived the crash and contained enough sensor readings to figure it out? Maybe a proper diagnostic of Geordi's on the USS Farragut visor spilled the secret.
I'm pretty sure that it's Beta canon that Starfleet figured out the deal with Geordie's VISOR. The Admiralty, I believe, decreed that he either upgrade to the implants seen in First Contact and after, or be grounded, as the VISOR had repeatedly proven to be a major security risk at that point (Generations and when the Romulans used it to turn Geordie into an assassin, probably a few other times).
To me, it represents the nail in the so called "peace and noninterventional isolationism" that the Starfleet of the time (2364 to near 2400CE) seem to have embraced. This seems to mirror the "Abramsverse" Admiral Marcus doctrine of extreme militarism and subsequent starship designs like USS Vengeance. In otherwords, Starfleet grew a pair. This vessel is more in line with the aforementioned USS Vengeance in both speed and capability. It would be interesting to note if this is a sort of parallel design influence that Starfleet embarked on after so many defeats by enemies both inferior (Klingons) and dangerously superior forces like the Borg. The 24th Century and onwards version of USS Vengeance. It would also be of note if the Ross Class had weapons replication technology to replace damaged phaser and weapons arrays "on the fly" and could fire at warp. Also, if Slipstream Tech had also been invented (or umm salvaged) from USS Voyager and the Borg. This ship was not a standard starship, it would be considered a dreadnought. And this could explain Admiral Rikers 3 nacelled Galaxy refit with a spiral lance phaser capable of splitting a Klingon Negh'Var Class or Vorcha or Q'ong Class in half even with shields with but a single shot.
So for Imperial Starfleet, the Ross Class has 6 first line examples: 1. ISS Vengeance 2. ISS Impaler 3. ISS Ravage 4. ISS Conqueror (Emperor's personal starship) 5. ISS Strife and finally 6. ISS Agony. Future ships forthcoming.
Side on, the Ross class reminds me of The Enterprise C golden statue that was on The Enterprise D. I do like this class and it fits well as a refit between classes.
Cool looking ship. I like how the deflector dish looks like the Wave Motion Gun from the Space Battleship Yamato. Also like the circular (vs elliptical) saucer section. For a ship that's a bit more about force projection than the Galaxy, the design language here conveys that well while keeping the majestic overall shape. Beauty.
STO needs to get the USS Ross and the teleplay crew into the game. They would make an excellent addition as a ship and crew to team up with. In the teleplay the Ross and her crew see some action. I also love that even after the Dominion War the original the prototype Galaxy, USS Galaxy would outlive the rest of the Galaxy fleet. Shes a Galaxy class that refused to die.
As it hasn't been made clear yet - the Ross class was originally created for the liveplay rpg show 'Clear Skies', and the model was made for them by Thomas Marrone of Star Trek Online. It later found its way into STO and from there to its appearance in Picard. The ship was conceived by the group as a long-range explorer and diplomatic vessel, with its own promenade - the windows of which are the ring of lights on the upper saucer - and a second warp core. Internal quarters remained spacious as in TNG.
You're splitting hairs and you know it! In canon it first appeared in Star Trek Online and again, this is a Beta Canon video, not one on fan fiction Regardless of my personal opinion on it!
I genuinely believe that the Galaxy Class Starship Design was a bold, yet failed experiment. It had way too many flaws and weaknesses that could be exploited. This is why the Sovereign Class was a complete departure from the failed Galaxy Design. Starfleet returned to a sleeker, more powerful, and maneuverable design reminiscent of the Constitution and Excelsior Class, mixed with inspiration from the Intrepid Class. There's a reason why there was no Galaxy Class in the fleet museum, because it did not warrant a spot - the only reason it did end up there was because of Geordi pushing to restore the D for sentimental reasons. The Ross Class was a way for the Galaxy designers to redeem their failure by making it more sleek and powerful. Still, I think with the advent of the Excelsior II Class and the Odyssey Class, the Ross Class will be outshined again and phased out.
I know it's not cannon, and it'll barely make it into beta cannon if it's lucky, but can you do a vid on the construction of the Typhon-class ship from the game Star Trek: Invasion please?
9:32 seeing the two side by side, I’m struck by a thought/reference to a previous video dealing with ships from the discovery era… A colony expedition to the far side of the galaxy, or either of the satellite galaxies of the Milky Way, comprising of 24 ships. 1x sovereign class as a command/flagship 2x Ross class for heavier defence plus fabrication of facilities 3x galaxy class as personnel and supply transport and 12-18 defiant class as patrol/escort/support craft for the bigger ships, also capable of scouting nearby systems (Yes, Danube class runabouts could do this job as well, but would be less capable of carrying themselves in a fight with anyone they come across) Again, this is just something that came to mind seeing these two ships side by side and with the video dialogue referencing the mobile tar base notions
They basically took the fierceness of the Sovereign and combined it with the elegance of the Galaxy. I like to think that the Starfleet used the basis of it being a mobile star base as the groundwork for the Odyssey class.
I love the Ross now we need a nebula variant of the Ross my Ross I put a different neck so I have a lower after shuttlebay and used the venture necelles
I absolutely LOVE this design. I'm glad it officially became cannon. I hope now that it is cannon that Round 2 makes a model of it. I'd love to own a physical model. By the way I thought the Ross class could separate like the regular Galaxy Class but with one feature that the saucer section has warp capability.
Interesting narrative. I'm not a huge fan of a lot of the Star Trek Online designs and sadly, the Ross class is one of the ones I don't much care for. As with a lot of ships from STO they look very busy in detail. And of course, it's hard to compete with the Galaxy class when it comes to design (and the nostalgia).
Nice one! I do like the Galaxy Class i think its my favourite Starfleet Star ship. Mmm the Ross Class proportions don't look quite right to me, it seems too short. I would love to see a video giving specific details of The Galaxy upgrades that gave them more teeth to fight the Dominion. Just watched the DS9 Episode "The Jem'Hadar" were the poor USS Odyssey gets destroyed, i could have wept and to be fair it wasn't the fault of the NCC 1701D that she was destroyed it was Geordie and his VISOR an Troys Driving!! That's twice she's totalled the ship!! (:
I noticed several widow like places on the ship that emitted the same blue glow that the warp nacelles do. It would be nice to know exactly what those emitters do and if it is related to what the warp nacelles do.
The thing about the Yamato and the battle with the borg, the public is waaaay off. Two species that are way more advanced and never before encountered so they expect the galaxy to come out the best? Just silly!
Even with family accommodations, the Galaxy had more than enough room for individual quarters. I don't think anyone on a ship that size would need to bunk up even with all the new equipment.
@@TriAngulumStudiosAudioComics Thank you for the reply, I genuinely enjoy the stories you tell. If the Ross class can go up to the Emergency Evacuation limit of 15,000 people like the Galaxy then I can see people bunking. The Galaxy is so big, that 15,000 is likely just a life support issue as you would just fill the empty rooms with that many people. Even the Enterprise D had empty decks due to leftover mission space. However, if there is only 1000 officer and crew in normal operations, that is going to be a big, empty ship. Bunking could be good for metal health. The Nimitz class aircraft carrier is about the size of a Sovereign class nacelle and fully embarked it holds over 5000 people.
Excellent video as always i like your story of the Ross class we see the evolution from the Galaxy . I do have a question , do you have plan to do other star trek online ship ? And if your answer is yes do you plan to do the Avengers class battlecruiser from star trek online (i know you did another avenger class in hte past)?
Man what a beautiful ship. Nice evolution of the Galaxy class. Nice backstory, is there some kind of rules you have to follow or can you just wing it any way you like?
I dont have any rules, but I research every video in great detail from Alpha and Beta Canon... Then i choose information that is not contradictory, makes sense and doesnt go against already established Alpha Canon... Then I write my story based on those "facts"
@@TriAngulumStudiosAudioComics LOL "facts" love it. No rules nice and your template needs to be patent, cuz it's on point. Thank you for doing what you do!!!
I like a lot of the top elements of the Ross design. I just think that the bulbous round yellow dish modification is hideous and messes with the sleak lines of the original secondary hull. I would scrap that ugly part, and have an all blue modernized new dish that keeps the original contour - the other Sovereign elements work well.. just not that dish.
Only disappointment for me is that it wasn't named after Admiral Ross from DS9 especially as the actor who played him (Barry Jenner) died a few years ago. Would have been a nice tribute to both.
Wait....redesigned internal rooms, and only hold 1,000? Talk about increasing the 'wasted space' problem! A Galaxy class could hold over 5,000 with an operating crew needed between 500-2300. This class would need at least 2,000 (medical and damage/engineering teams talking the bulk) to operate during combat missions.
