a. Small aluminum cones with an electrical wire running through the center of the cones, cones spaced apart (not touching I'm thinking) but end to end. b. Electromagnetic radiation energy in the atmosphere interacts with the aluminum cones. c. Jostled atoms and molecules in the cone eventually have some electrons try to get away from other electrons of which those electrons gather at the larger end of the cone, of which also creates an area of positive charge at the smaller end of the cone. d. The electron's in the wire are attracted to the positive end of the cone and the positive 'end' in the wire are attracted to the negatively charged end of the cone. e. Basically a 'battery' has been created inside the electrical wire itself, different areas of electrical potential. Basically a 'wire battery' or a 'batteryless battery', however one wanted to call it. f. Numerous cones placed end to end increases the number of 'batteries' in the wire. (In series to increase voltage, in parallel to increase amperage). * Via QED (Quantum Electro Dynamics) whereby electromagnetism interacts with electrons in atoms and molecules, one would have to find the correct 'em' frequency for the correct material being utilized for the cones. The shape of the cones could also come into play. The type and size of the wire as well as the type and thickness of the insulation between the cones and the wire would also be factors.

The only homemade large battery I can think of that maybe pos for the average Joe, would be lead acid cell batteries. Back when windmills were on allot of farms here in the midwest, US, there was a gentleman selling them that still worked 40-50 years later. Glass tank, lead plates and sulfiric acid. Real simple. The big trick was the purity of the lead plates, I read. How efficent were they though? I remember my grand parents still having them in an upstairs room in the early 1960's, but acid removed as they were then hocked up to the grid, the windmill running free.

Now, if for some odd reason, this bizarre contraption works, then there's a lot of questions that come up. Why does it work/How does it work? It's not supposed to work. So if it does, something is going on that we don't understand. I agree that someone should replicate it. If it works, let a few more people say so. If enough people say "it's actually working" then we have an interesting puzzle to get cracking on But right now it just sounds like an expensive piece of nonsense.

So this sparked a thought. What if in an actual battery or supercap you make an anode and cathode out of a flat coiled copper pipe and laid each one on its own same size neodinium magnet. Widely separated from each other. The really strong kind. Perhaps one would have it's magnet northpole up and the other south etc. Would the presence of those magnets in a true battery somehow increase the ion transfer or current transfer to the anode and cathode from the electrolyte? Obviously the magnets would affect charged ion flow in the area. Hmmm.
@ThinkingandTinkering
@ThinkingandTinkering 2 года назад
research has been done on the effect of magnets attached to batteries mate - it does give an improvement but it is slight and the cost is much higher than the improvement - much higher - in fact you are better off building another battery for the cost of the magnets and the improvement they give - have a look on google scholar there are papers on this

I got a challenging question for you that I think you might appreciate. What do the terms 'anode', 'cathode', 'current', 'collector', 'separator', and 'electrolyte' mean without using the terms 'electron', 'ion', 'atom', 'positive charge', 'negative charge', and all other terms that are not easily observed with the naked eye(or any of our 5 senses). My reasoning for asking this question is that the entire concept of electricity should be far simpler. In other words, aint no one know seen an electron, or ion, so how can those terms be used to explain the difference between an anode and cathode? I highly suspect the entire concept of electricity can be greatly simplified when the concepts of electrons, ions, and atoms are removed and the concepts of the aether are reintroduced. IIRC the US Air Force reproduced the Michelson Morley experiments and found that the experiments actually prove the existence of an aether(not disprove). I saw this in a Nature publication by a guy named Silverman or Silver something sry the name escapes me but the name definitely had the word Silver in it. I'm not saying the electron, ion, atom are lies or a deception, they are very likely real things, but the average human doesn't have access to multi-million dollar 'electron microscopes', its kinda like alchemy vs chemistry. Chemistry is very legitimate, but its too complex of a system for the average human. Alchemy is far simpler(its all distillation and aspects of distillation, thats it haha). Again I'm not saying chemistry, electrons, ions, etc are wrong, or a lie, I'm just saying there are far simpler systems more easily digested by the everyday human. My question is just me being curious how you would describe batteries and electricity without the physics book vernacular terms.

The "missinformation" videos might be the best thing to happen to youtube. Right now the video channel owner can hide a comment without the viewer knowing and the dislike count is not show, making it the perfect platform to have only "positive" feedback on any video. So, if people start to notice the lack of tools to report a video, or at least inform others about it, they will go to other platforms. Might be a good thing!

I would like your comment would an ultra capacitor or even capacitor that can be charged to say 100v that supplies a 12v circuit using perhaps a pulse width modulated circuit have similar energy to lithium ion batteries. What would be the negatives or limitations.
@ThinkingandTinkering
@ThinkingandTinkering 2 года назад
the energy is what the energy is mate - you can do what you like with it - take away the losses and that will be the energy out. But the energy in is only what the device can possibly store - and ultra capacitor will store 3-5Wh/kg - that's it really - a lithium can store 100 - 250Wh/kg

Using your 5 elements of a battery can you help is understand solid state batteries. Are they real? What would be the separator? Can we play with some version of it, Experimentlly? Thanks for what you do for us tinkerers.
@ThinkingandTinkering
@ThinkingandTinkering 2 года назад
real solid state batteries use a solid electrolyte and separator like NASICON or LISICON which are glasses with ion mobility - they are expensive and hard to make but pseudo solid state batteries just gel the electrolyte by adding gelling agents - fumed silica in lead acid is an example - and it is pretty easy to do. The first 'dry cells' added plaster of Paris - apart from that solid state batteries and 'normal' batteries are identical in construction

@@ThinkingandTinkering I'm just starting to work with water glass for making furnaces and ricket stoves then i saw a company commercial advertise their product and showed ? A hundred different uses. I wondering can we use wonderful carbon for conductors--semi conductor material and silaca gels,for glasses ,adhesives, insulators, and semiconductors. All cheap, abundant and very flexiable in what can be made with those two elements alone. With all you knowledge on batteries and carbon maybe you can help us play with silica. Who knows we might inspire with enough people to make a great battery. We have way more energy on this earth than we can ever use if we can just collect, store, and transport it. I believe like you storage is the most important area right now.
@chriskelly4619
@chriskelly4619 2 года назад
What if we were to take silica gel add the lye to make silica gel(water glass) then dope it with an element?? Would that allow us to make a semiconductor solid form(fire it) or, or electrolyte gel( don't fire it). Collector plates and wires of carbon graphene? Keeping the internal resistance down that you say makes or breaks a batteries performance via internal resistance losses . These two super abundant ,cheap and most of all versatile elements are so amazing.
@yougeo
@yougeo 2 года назад
So now I wonder if there would be a way to actually turn that into a battery or supercapacitor. Maybe put one copper pipe inside a membrane bag and in the drum and fill it half up the drum with carbon then seal it and put the other pipe in and fill it the rest of the way with carbon and add some salty water. Maybe have a small solar cell continue to charge it and it might be a battery that would run a small current discharge device for a thousand years. Lol.

Great project for kids and enthusiasts and parts can be returned or exchanged if you want to go another route. Over Achiever Challenge: Convert output to electricity with the same rules.

Debunked when a single cell battery. Shows 12 volts or more when charged. Severe overcharge should not be much more then 2 volts.

I've considered a 55gal battery, but built properly. Could this be used as a solar battery bank? If one could be built from accessible,inexpensive materials, even if not ideal, it could prove worthwhile for the poor layman.
@AnalystPrime

Fill it with water heated by your collected solar power and use it to keep your house warm. Even better if you can wrap some insulation around it. There is a guy on another channel that put a barrel of water on his roof to make a tiny pumped hydro battery, it worked but not very well. Put the barrel in your yard and wait for rain to fill it. Use rainwater to water your garden or wash your car. Save precious drinking water. Best plan: Cut barrel in half, fill both halves with dirt, grow potatoes in them. Note: Cutting vertically works, but keeping the halves from rolling makes for more work, easier to just make a planting box from wood or stones.

@@buensomeritano1755 Those all store energy, therefore they are batteries. Making a planter has the added benefit of not needing separate solar collectors. Also note that filling your barrel with rocks and hauling it 100' up on a tower made from Lego blocks and Meccano parts on your roof to make a gravity battery is likely still safer than playing with 55 gallons of electrolyte solution.

Being a fan of your videos, because they are so direct and simple, do you offer a compilation of your videos on DVD/Thumb Drive/Disk Drive? Also, do you have any licensing on your videos, I.E. can I share them offline with others? How could we set this up. There is this humanitarian need for very simple power generation. I am hoping to put together a "starting with "almost" nothing" project for the group to share via laptops in 3rd world countries.

Thought it might be a different one as I have recently been looking for videos of large salt water batteries... for entertainment purposes of course...... Love the videos. I'm still enjoying them (^-^) Any chance you have uploaded a salt water battery video or know where I might find a ratio chart?

Not just a Chemist….. But a Battery Chemist…. Just like my son Cory… He has his name on a couple dozen battery material patents…. But he tells me absolutely nothing about his research….. However he did tell me that batteries are getting better/safer/cheaper by the day…. What is your take on that….? Thank you Robert….

it's true mate - Cory is telling you what he can - in the world of research some things are happening that will quite honestly blow your mind and are real - there is a time lag between research bench and product - but Cory is telling you how it is

Please keep it up and expose as many charlatans as possible. Thank you so much.

Hi rob, whats the difference between a voltaic pile and a battery? As far as I can see it is a battery, but doesn't need any external charging so to speak, self charging continuous battery its described as. Why can't all batteries charge themselves through the electricity thats floating about in the air is what am asking? Thanks
