In this video we are building a really cool DIY 1436 jon boat from a kit. This DIY kit has everything you need to build a 14 foot long 36 inch wide Tracker Topper jon boat just like you see here in this video. It will work with longtail mud motors, short tail surface drive mud motors, outboard motors, or trolling motor. Follow along and see how we build this 1436 jon boat kit. I love the mud/duck boat kit idea. For me having an open layout is the most important thing in a duck boat. Light bar, gun storage, and simplicity are things I like in a build

I have a 1436 boat now, and currently have 22hp predator Swamp Runner with pods. Project Bottomland Bateaux was the ultimate inspiration to buy and build this boat. I just ordered my version of the wiring kit and safety kit from TBN. As far as the aluminum build kit goes: 1 No foot pedal tray 2 Remove front seat and build front deck to the point the front seat ended closest to front of boat. 3 cut back seat in half for two rear pods. One would get seat pedestal mount, and the other could be used for either switch panel and wires or dry storage. 4 put seat pedestal mount in front deck 5 put third seat mount in floor? 6 I plan on making rod locker in the place you have electrical box in the current weekend warrior build. I could stash two guns in there during duck season, but a dedicated gun box would be okay. 7 keep trolling motor mount for fishing use when not duck season. 8 keep front hatch 9 make back bridge between rear pods with rear 3 sided hatch to stuff fuel tank and battery? 10 green or red lights (deck and switch panel) only for hunting effect. 11 grab bar

I'd like to see you take one of the bench seats out for the duck boat build and show how that process is done correctly. Also move batteries and gas tank up front to help compensate for the weight of a person and mud motor in back. On this video you could see the the back end of that boat dragging hard when you were on plane.

It was actually really easy. Spray paint the whole boat grey, use sea sponges from hobby lobby to dab on some forest green and light grey, then hold up the stencils and spray it black. I used an automotive flat clear at the end to seal it all. Took me 1 afternoon, not bad at all.

Me personally, I would be looking for open and lightweight maybe with a smaller deck on the front just to throw some stuff under like lifejackets and batteries. We do a lot of dragging of boats across some damns and other things so lightweight is key. I also really like the idea of removing benchseatseats and having a mainly open floor.

We would have to do that in a bigger boat, a 1436 is way too small to bowfish out of unless you are all by yourself and even then it would be sketchy.

Yes it was very low, inches in some spots off the river channel. I have never seen it get this low.

Hey I had a question for ya, I’m lookin at modifying my boat a bit but I have a through hull live well in the middle seat. Have you removed one with a live well hole and if so did you have it welded or how was that fixed or worked around it? I’m trying to make more of an open floor plan on it.

Was thinking about getting this same setup 1436 with a long tail for duck hunting. Mainly for small shallow ponds is this setup light enough for 2-3 guys to lift it off and on the trailer??? Just curious I’m debating what’s the lightest/most powerful dump and go Jon boat setup???

Enjoyed the view of your work. Thanks for sharing this project with us Weekend Warrior. How much weight does it add to the max load? I have the same boat and desire to add a mud motor at some point. I have a barely used Johnson 15 hp on it. I live near an excellent creek that empties into a major river ( Neuse, NC). There are many small little creeks off these water system that have some nice honey holes. I am just interested in day fishing and occasionally take my grand kids with me. Love to see other slimmer builds of this kit , if you have them. Rookie Boatman here but love the water an access to some deer woods, via boat. Love your work and video content! Semper Fi

It does not add anything to the weight rating. The kit only adds about 100 lbs of aluminum, not bad at all.

I personally would pick a 48 over a 36 any day but unfortunately they are not as common as the 1436. Them things are everywhere and that what I get the majority of call about.

I'm getting ready to build a long tail for my boat and I came across an engine I can't find any reviews on. Like not one single person has tried to use it yet. Its the Viking 456cc engine from Viking equipment. looks like a good product that is fairly new to the market. Anyone have any experience with this engine? Any input is greatly appreciated.

@@SendItJonBoats When you ascend to the level of in car filming, its because your content is so in demand you no longer have time to just film and post. Now you have to film, edit, consult endorsements, run by PC police, check with Karen, ask cancel culture, discard original and refilm, reedit, repeat until everyone but you is happy with end product then post. In the end its the beginning of realizing you are who never aspired to be and your fun died on the road to monetizing. Imo, you should be ok without. nope, running it deep water there was too much weight in the back. Once I got into skinny water it got up on step and picked up speed. Will be discussing that in the speed test video coming up
