Video 1463 is PROOF that it is time to replace that old Kwikset KW1 lockset! The new Lishi KW1 2-in-1 Pick & decoder allows an UNSKILLED user to quickly pick open Kwiksets, even if the lock contains security pins. These tools represent a clear and present danger to anyone depending on a Kwikset lock for their security.

It is easy. The Lishi tools make it very simple. The grid shows you exactly where the pin chambers are for a particular lock and the depths. Hence the decode ability.

I think that's the scary part about this tool... even in unskilled hands it is really easy to use. That was the reason for my comment at the end about registration.

Very usefull for locksmiths but to control this is what we were told in 1970 and 1980 about normal lock picks . If you need a differant one for every keyway thats alot of tools a criminal would need to purchase . And selected locks is not a criminals first thought its a hammer screwdriver or bolt cropper . .locks arnt picked in 98% of crime cases bill . We have been fighting the establishment for over three centuerys for people today to have a sport or hobby in picking . Most criminals cant be bothered to learn to pick good locks

I kind of have the inside scoop, I was talking to my contact... A brief history, I'm a long-term Locksmith, and was one of the 1st in this country to have one of these picks. The 5 and 6 pin Schlage, and 6 pin Kwikset should be out by mid-April. Having said that, I was told a Kwikset Smart Key pick is coming out, (I only know that, he didn't elaborate) and some sort of Yale Y1 keyway is coming down the pipe. There's a big problem though, we can ask for all the picks in the world, and I'M VERY EXCITED that these pin-tumbler picks are coming out! But they're nearing production capacity, so chances of a Medeco pick coming out.... Not likely Bill. Personally, I'd like to see Corbin/Russwin, Sargent, among others.. It's kick-ass, and heartbreaking all at the same time.

the tool would really only be useful if you intend make a key and repeatedly come back or if as a locksmith you are getting a customer back into their house in witch the key got lost to. of course as a responsible locksmith you would ask the customer for multiple methods id verification because there are scammers out there and then suggest for the customer to change or rekey their lock. with how dangerously powerful that the tool is if it is not going to be restricted then make it so it will scratch up the pins in a way that lock forensics can verify tampering like bump keying and raking does

Triple the penelty if entry was made by picking a lock and you're not a currently licenced locksmith. In any case, locks and other asset hardening is for the opportunitist. Real crooks could care less about a lock especially if your front door has a little window next to it.
@CristiNeagu
@CristiNeagu 5 лет назад
I think the point of that circular cutout is so you can put the handle in it so it doesn't flop about.
@_0x00
@_0x00 5 лет назад
I am another Lishi owner. The handle won't travel that far into the pick. If you take a look at the tip of the blade (key portion), there is a solid stop to prevent the more delicate pick from over-extending into the keyway. This protects the pick, which can be easily damaged if mistreated. Some Lishi models are prone to getting hung up on the slots cut into the blade if the pick gets even slightly bent.

No the point of the hole is for flex. Notice the slot going down the tensioner. They likely pry it apart a bit and clip it on the circle part.

If the hole would be for that , the pick tip would be way front of the key tip . That tensioning part should be a bit longer and the hole behind the company logo , then it could work .

I met Mr Li, in Manchester England at a Locksmith show. However he couldn't get his interpreter into the UK. Even members of the local Chinese community couldn't understand his heavily accented language. However his picking techniques said a thousand words. In the UK there is absolutely no regulation on tools. However in Ireland, Locksmithing is completely regulated. Go figure.

( look at the small thing behind it you move to pick pins)It was cold in the garage, I had gloves on. The little slider, the part you manipulate, got pulled out with the tensioner and broke. No warning, no bending, just broke. It is built so flimsy that I didn't even feel it break. But it snapped in two pieces right where it comes out of the tunnel thing. Right in front numeral 2. (sorry about amateur terms) They don't have replacement parts for the M1 at time of this writing. So I'm just SOL...

Oh, yeah, if you've got the right tool for the keyway, those things are like magic wands. They do also work on serrated pins, btw, you just have to be gentle but firm. The trick is, you need exactly the right model, and it's not always easy to know your keyway, and like you said, they're not exactly cheap. Plus they don't actually make then for every keyway yet. So far, I've bought an M1 (only fits Master No 3s), an AM5 (doesn't fit any of my locks), an SC1 (only fits my Sparrows cutaway locks - not an overly common keyway here) and a KW1 (fits one of my Lockwood Assa Abloys, but not the other, and my crappy, Chinese Disc padlock). Can keyways be different for the the same model of lock in different countries? I swear, most Master locks in Australia don't have Master keyways. The No. 3s do, but none of the solid body locks, including the 140. Still got no idea. LW4 or 5, maybe?

What decoder would I need for a master lock made by milwaukee wis lock No. 7 I know it's the same as a No. 3 but is smaller does that matter for the decoder?

That is real nice to cut some keys. That's pretty impressive, now for the other locks.

Hey Bill, where do I know which Lichi‘s are the correct one since there are many on he market? :)
@julabask

That isn't a smartkey lock. It has no smartkey rekey hole and they don't have screw holes on the side. All this is is picking a traditional kwikset lock which is very easy to do with any tool.

Wanted one of these for a while, had mine for a week and it’s the biggest disappointment ever! Tried on 3 different Kwikset locks so far and it has failed to open a single one smh

Wrong. Pull the spring all the way out before inserting and start with 1

A version for the M1 keyway would be a nice easy way to generate keys for masterlocks with no key. I see lots of them at fleamarkets and similar sales and many have no key.

Another RU-vidr pointed out this is kinda pointless because kwikset is easy to pick already. This is a overly complicated way to beat easy lock.

BlackDolphin90 it is, and it isn’t... the point is that this allows any random person to do without developing the “feel” or for that matter the instinct for which pin is where. Bill picked that lock in a minute... but a review of the video footage or a few seconds decoding after turning the core would allow you to come back next time with a perfect key... that’s not something you get from raking or SPP...
@BD90..
@BD90.. 5 лет назад
@@jdownj I suppose you can do that if you are a thief, but a locksmith can do the same thing without and would agree this is not necessary but a convenient tool. I bet even though this tool decides it does not take into account the fact that pins wear down and need replacing if a lock is used and can give a call reading. Personally I would have picks or a pick gun over this as there are far many more locks that can be opened and decoded without this. This tool does not take into the account the harder kwikset locks just standard ones. For a lazy thief this tool is perfect.

BlackDolphin90 that’s the point that I’m making. If this is being made and sold as a commercial product, some group of people who would conduct an illegal entry have one like it already, whether that is criminals, a foreign spy agency or whatever. The fact that a product exists, and makes it comically easy to both get in, and decode the lock to get in repeatedly, means that the KW1 keyway is well and truly broken. To me, a hobbyist, the purpose it serves is illustration. To a good locksmith, a waste of money, OR a way to go send the apprentice on the easy residential calls, you decide...
@BD90..

@@jdownj I completely agree with you when you say that the KW1 is broken. There are lot of locks and designs that in my opinion are outdated and obsolete due to power tools like a grinder and effective picking tools wether it be rakes or guns. Some locks are just need to be discontinued as they don't offer real resistance and alot of kwikset locks are also made of shitty cast body's. I hate crappy locks and don't like lock makers who exploit the uneducated by seeling them outdated locks and fake security. Master lock is good at doing that....they make good locks but sell alot of shitty locks to maximize profits. Tough under fire from critism more like.

From a locksmiths prospective, the tool will be used to save time and produce a key without removing and breaking down the lock should the customer request that a current key for the lock be created.
