Chad provides a comprehensive lesson on Equilibrium and Equilibrium Constants. First, what is meant by a dynamic equilibrium. When a reaction reaches equilibrium, it is not that the reaction has stopped completely, it is just that it is proceeding in both the forward and reverse directions at the same rate (Forward Rate = Reverse Rate).
Second, equilibrium constants (K) and the law of mass action are introduced. Equilibrium constant expressions are first defined as the ratio of the concentrations of products to reactants and how that typically only aqueous and gaseous species are included. The difference between Kc and Kp is also explained as the equilibrium constant can be written in terms of molar concentrations or partial pressures for reactions involving gases. How to calculate Kp having been given Kc is also demonstrated using a provided equation.
Finally, being given an equilibrium constant for a reaction, it is shown how to determine the equilibrium constant for reactions that are related to the first by a simple stoichiometric ratio (reducing all coefficients by half for instance).
I've embedded this playlist as a course on my website with all the lessons organized by chapter in a collapsible menu and much of the content from the study guide included on the page. Check this lesson out at www.chadsprep.com/chads-gener...

This 30-minute video taught me more than whatever my professor has taught me over the semester (he didn't even teach us the equation). Thank you so much, Chad, from students like me struggling in chemistry.

Chad do you perhaps a playlist for Biochem? I just started Biochem this semester and I am seeing that it at first is going back to a lot of gen chem math stuff (something I was never really strong at) and was wondering what you think would be good to watch so I can learn that dimenional analysis? Also you are really amazing your one of the reasons I was able to get a B in my ochem 2 class last semester so thank you!

I don't have a biochem playlist on youtube (hope to add an updated one next year), but I do have a free one on my website here: www.chadsprep.com/chads-elementary-biochemistry-videos/ You might also consider watching the video in chapter 17 of my old gen chem playlist on buffers too. Hope this helps!

20:57 how do you know which one is final and initial if it's in equilibrium.
@ChadsPrep
@ChadsPrep Год назад
Even at equilibrium we have reactants and products, the final is referring to the moles of gas in products and initial is the moles of gas in reactants

how do see if a reaction's kp is equal kc
@ChadsPrep
@ChadsPrep 8 месяцев назад
If I forgot to mention it in the video, I definitely intended to, but Kp and Kc will only be equal if there are an equal number of moles of gas on both the reactants' and products' sides of the reaction. Hope this helps!
