An episode from the 1986 anthology series Unnatural Causes titled Hidden Talents and featuring Pat Phoenix final performance. Advert break included. The episode was written by Lynda La Plante.
Re-uploaded as I managed to reduce the background noise through Audacity.

Less than a minute in, it’s written by the same woman behind Prime Suspect and the first character i see is the nemesis from the first installment of that work. I’m having a brilliant Halloween, sincere thanks to everyone who made it possible for me to watch it today!!

Oh my goodness - I'm a huge Pat Phoenix fan and have been looking for this on You Tube for ages - thanks SO much! Was this her actual last performance? I think I remember it said in a documentary she was dying when she made this but kept it secret. If true how sad. A brave lady and a wonderful star - and there aren't too many of those around. God bless her - and God bless you for uploading! X

glamdolly20 only her agent and a few friends knew. Nobody on this show did. Nor even did her husband Tony Booth who she married a week before her death. The programme is The Unforgettable Pat Phoenix. It's on here somewhere. Will find it. Here it is ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-26WPErlsLvM.html

I would love to see that sitcom, it was the last TV project where Pat was still healthy. I find this drama very sad - she is a dying woman playing a dying woman. I would rather see Pat at her feisty, glamorous best - sparkling, the way we all remember her.

A bizarre off-beat black comedy more reminiscent of older dramas such as, eg. the Armchair Theatre series from the 1960s. Pat Phoenix and Tom Bell were excellent in this weird rarity.

Hard to understand the dialogue at times as the clarity is poor, especially with all the mumbling. Depressing, strange drama and the house interior looks like something out of Steptoe and Son. Pat Phoenix was mesmerising especially in her Baby Jane makeup!

Gosh I was so disappointed with this. Lousy story and script - The great Pat Phoenix deserved a better role than this, especially for her last role. very sad. Tom Bell played the same role every time - the creepy, mumbling, sinister weirdo. Doing it again here - still, no doubt it paid off his mortgage!
@glamdolly30
@glamdolly30 6 лет назад
There is that I guess. But as a huge Pat Phoenix fan, I wish she had gone out with a bang not a whimper. It's funny because in the Pat Phoenix documentary (available on RU-vid) Pat's agent talks about this role in hushed tones as if it was so wonderful, just because Lynda La Plante wrote it. Well I don't care who wrote it - it was utter rubbish, has dated badly and the role of sad, bedridden old dear with dodgy sons simply didn't give the magnificent Pat much to get her teeth into! Thank goodness we can enjoy her Coronation Street performances - she was superb as Elsie Tanner right to the end when she got in a black cab heading off to a new life in Portugal with her lover.
@glamdolly30
@glamdolly30 6 лет назад
Lovely comment! Pat's a bit before my time too. I watched Corrie as a child with my Mum, so knew her as Elsie Tanner from that. I was 17 when she died (too young, at just 62), in 1986 and I immediately went out and bought the most recent of her two autobiographies 'Love, Curiosity, Freckles and Doubt'. It's a great read - I was a huge fan after that and bought the first autobiography 'All My Burning Bridges' which is terrific too. You can get them very cheap, second hand on Amazon. If you're looking for a great book to entertain you on dark Winter's nights you could do a lot worse. (Incidentally I also recommend my own, new book 'Reality Rehab' if you're a fan of the fun, camp and kitsch which I've a feeling you are you'll also find it on Amazon plug plug!) Diana Dors is another of my obsessions - actress from that era fascinate me, they were women, not girls, and proud to be so - always picked themselves up and got on with it, whatever knocks life threw at the, The actress heroine of Reality Rehab is based on those kinds of amazing women! Good luck with your career I think it must be wonderful to be able to sing and entertain people like that - a tough career but a magical one, good for you! X

Oh dear. Three really good actors but this was so hammy and OTT, imo. Not what I was suspecting at all. You can see what it was aiming for but it felt like a trowel was used.... don't know if it was the writing (struggled to hear the dialogue) or simply the direction but at the very least it hasn't aged well.

Pat is horrendous in this awful depressing production (someone said she was very ill and dying in this) well we cannot look at her, she is making us feel sickly with a headache. We have all seen photos of Pat when she was actually in her hospital bed and died the next day but she looked good, nothing like this. Totally overdone. The sound is bad, difficult to make out what they are saying and it is put through the hi fi system so we have no idea what this ghastly thing is supposed to be about. We had to forward to get to the boring end and still have no idea. This is the worst we have ever seen, never again. The other two in this series were weird too but not as bad as this.
