Thomas James Tannian Thank you for commenting Thomas, it was jolly hard work and very slow going on the locks with the spike.

Flip what a mission with that 2 X 4! Nice little whoops by Eileen there at the end.

Annie Thanks Annie, Pat didn’t have a choice as I was unable to move the lock mechanism with the spike. Lol x

Really interesting to see how the Calder Spike is used, we've not come across a lock that needed one before.
@ournarrowboatquest4894
@ournarrowboatquest4894 5 лет назад
Enigma Thanks for your comment, as far as I am aware I think that the use of the spike is unique to the the Calder and Hebble locks. It was certainly very time consuming, it took as ages to get through them, not that we were in hurry. 😆 Also there was a few that I was unable to manage which was why Pat did them. X

Narrowboat Mum Hey, welcome aboard. It’s lovely to share our journey with you. We bought our boat in the North so we are making our way down south albeit a little slowly. 😁

Hey you two, you sure are working hard on your journey, bet you were jiggered after that lock pat, And well done Eileen ,your handling of the boat is as pat said “perfection “. So enjoying seeing your adventures from the comfort of my armchair , thanks for sharing .☺️ xx Ps . you still got that lettuce?
@ournarrowboatquest4894

Carol rayfield Thanks Carol, we were both jiggered, we had three long days travelling and the locks were hard work. My handling of the boat is improving though. And no, we haven’t got the lettuce any more!! Lol xx

wow, I have seen over 300 vids my narrowboaters i figure, and this is the first video where I have seen locks where you raise/lower the gates with what we call in America, a 2x4 piece of lumber
@ournarrowboatquest4894
@ournarrowboatquest4894 4 года назад
Hi Peter, it is basically a price of 2x4 timber, and those locks were jolly hard work. Hope you enjoyed the journey, thanks for watching and commenting!👍

Really enjoyed watching that. I am buying a boat from Thorne near Doncaster and will be following your route back towards the Macclesfield canal. I wondered what the length of your boat is and if you continued onto the Rochdale canal without any issues in the short locks?
@ournarrowboatquest4894
@ournarrowboatquest4894 3 года назад
Hi Mark, thanks for watching and commenting!👍. Our boat is 57 feet and we continued onto the Rochdale Canal and headed to Manchester completing the Rochdale 9 locks. We had no issues with the length of the boat. 👍

Hi Foxes Afloat. You can buy spikes from Shire Cruiser, Sowerby Bridge.

That's one heck of a windlass - did you have to provide your own bit of 3 by 2 ?
@ournarrowboatquest4894
@ournarrowboatquest4894 5 лет назад
Martin Bissell Hi Martin, yes we had to buy that from a chandlery, it’s a Calder Spike and no other locks on the system have that type of mechanism. You can get away with a piece of 3x2 from a DIY store or fencer but it would not have been shaped and would therefore have been more awkward to use

Hello, what is the microphone system you are using please? Dale on nb Bunnies Warren
@ournarrowboatquest4894

Dale Jones Thanks for commenting Dale, the microphone system is a Tascam, not sure of the number and we are currently not on the boat so will check when we get back and post it here.

Love your vlogs but suggest that when going through a lock you just show us the name of the lock you are going through so we can follow your journey on google earth.

This isn't really a vlog 4it's just a series of videos with no indication where you are at any given time, with very annoying music

Sadly w can’t please everyone all of the time, for every person that dislikes the music there is another that likes it. We do try to do a bit of both. 🤔
