What I learned after riding a Revel kit for 700 miles: 1. Careful with the acceleration (sprained my right ankle bad) 2. Watch out for potholes (scrapped hands and ripped pants) 3. Wear a helmet (I probably wouldn't be alive after landing on my head) 4. Other people on the road are idiots (they will cause you to swerve or crash)
#1 maybe but not for me im pro #2 also watch out for rocks I was riding at night and i didnt see rocks and i was speeding up speeding up to 25 mph and i fell right across from a factory named hydro, they one of them helped me with injuries pants ripped but non serious no helmet also lol #3 true too
I would suggest carrying a finger Bell to alert people walking. It gives them the heads up at the same time potentially avoid someone turning into you when you're passing them
in most of my videos, you will hear me announcing to people "passing on your left" just something I picked up from mountain biking. The problem is too many people are out there with headphones playing too loud to hear traffic so even a bell is useless against them.
I learned this one the hard way ! I tried pass a bike for some reason he moved from his lane i crash into him at ~35kph.. luckily i had my full face on and my knees pads bit i fucked up ankle. I have a weakness in this ankle since then
I got some extra tips: A) Learn to bail, its not a matter of if, its a matter of when B) Slow down when you need to do a complete stop, always be ready to foot brake, your controller could disconnect, dont depend on it C) Be mindful of your speed, I'm not saying dont go fast, but always be ready for the unexpected
Great video Ronnie! One thing I've noticed with myself, I sometimes feel awkward kick pushing my board (which I sometimes do this to conserve battery), need to practice that more.
SUPER glad you made this video Ronnie! You really cover the bases. Learning to fall and the importance of pads are paramount when I show a newbie eskates for the 1st time: the run off is 1st, then know how to roll (& practice until it’s just in the nervous system) then know how to slide on hands/knees. 3 essential techniques for various speed blowouts. Also, in my experience, people damage hands & wrists 1st when they go down. Wrist guards have prevented multiple broken/sprained wrists since I started eskating. Keep up the good work man! Glad to see you back on the board!
I had never fallen off a board before, but the one time I did (running into a stone) I rolled automatically. Thank jeebus I did parkour for so long (I was only wearing a vest too and didn't even get any scratches)
It's really fascinating and cool how electric skateboards have become so popular and available that many people trying them have never skated or haven't skated in a long time.
Great video as always Ronnie. I have about 3000 miles on my boards now and here's one thing I noticed... When I use a Salomon hiking shoe with raised treads I feel less vibration on my feet if I go for long rides compared to a typical Vans or other "skate" shoe.
If you've never worn a high top and pulled your laces uncomfortably tight and ridden your mind will be blown... That Said I think any athletic shoe with the laces pulled super tight just pulled those laces tight I think is a good rule of thumb
Don’t overload your back pack… it will move ur center of balance …consequently double tap ur back on bumps and forward you go off the board at 20 mph… did that last week haha…ouch!
@@RonnieSarmiento yeah! last week i bought 12pcs of corona beer on a backpack. A little break makes my body wobble but not the board. @ B-one Titan 2wd. Godbless you kabayan, greetings from Japan.
I just ordered a backfire g2 black and is super excited to get it and shred I'm 33 and skated for 7 years when I was a teenager but never touched a longboard but I did love bombing the big hills on the way to my favorite skate spots so I'm eager to feel the joy skateboarding once brought me again in my life ❤️
Mistakes ive seen a few friends do (and get seriously hurt) is not knowing what you and your board are capable off. theres some cracks and turns that you just cant pull off easily and knowing what to do in those situations can save your life. THERES NO SHAME IN WALKING FOR A FEW SECONDS IF YOU DONT THINK U CAN GO PAST SOMETHING
I think this is the video that we all needed as beginners! The only tip i really want is how to get more comfortable when riding on a board. That sense of speed with nothing around you can be intimidating at first. It even made me want to get bigger wheels for better handling of bumps.
the moment you get too comfortable or over confident is when you will get hurt, being comfortable is one thing but it's good to always be extremely aware of surroundings and upcoming hazards. get low when u see them to avoid high speed wobble.
I don't own an eSkate (yet) but I LOVE the points you make in your video. I own a OneWheel and all the points you make apply to OneWheel riders as well, ESPECIALLY ... the points you make in #14 and #15. I've been riding my OneWheel for about a year (as of Dec) and I got very tired of all the negative and toxic posts I've seen over the year. Thank You! 😃🤙
so, i actually have an electric skateboard too. each time i pass a certain neighbor, all the kids chase me down and try to ask me how im moving without pushing for long periods of time. they think of me like a wizard.
Awesome video!! Great advice and tips!!! Comparison is the thief of joy. 😅 I am worried to be judged and it stops me from going out during some hours as I’m quite new lol. Greg content will be watching all your vids! Thanks for posting
So this popped up after a different eskate video. And being a veteran skateboarder, I was about to change it, but this is really great for beginners 🤓 Even though I already practice a majority of these myself, your video is so awesome, man, I really enjoyed it 👌 My favorite tip is the de-weighting. Such a valuable skill that beginners may have never grasped or even conceptualized. Nice work, buddy 🤝
My buddy sent me here, loved the tips. I just bought my first board about 2 weeks ago. This video helped me think about some details that should help me better my riding experience. Liked and subscribed! Thank you!
Thanks for this video I'm 55 yrs old just got my first electric skateboard looking forward to taking it out with my sons never been on a board before 😂😢😅
4:30 this is my speciality, jumping is good, but i found out after 3000miles, that only thing you need is to drive in around 45° angle, so basically, ride in waves and you´ll be good :D
THIS IS THE MOST WHOLESOME WAY TO GIVE TIPS ON SKILL AND MENTAL TO ALL BEGINNER, NOW IM DREAMING TO HAVE ONE ELECTRIC SKATEBOARD HAHAHAHAH -LOVE FROM PHILIPPINES
I have to disagree with bouncing up before a bump. I used to do this and it works on small bumps sometimes but nothing more. The much more effective method is to drop down as you're going over anything (bumps, drops, rocks). I've gone over bumps I fully expected to take the board out from under me. Even just already having a pronounced bend in your knees will save you more than trying to bounce up. It also requires much less precision. I would add in purchasing a board with hub motors with any expectation of it lasting. Buy it knowing you will replace it in short order because it is cheap and you don't know if you will ride much yet.
I got a Tynee Ultra on 105 cloud wheels, coming from a boosted mini x with 85mm Caguamas. Let me tell you, I am the happiest rider out in my side of Virginia rn.
Nearing the end of the video with comparison and price between board. it helped clear my mind up about the next board im about to get. for that I just wanna say Thank you :D
Ok, I gave you a 👍. I wasn't going to click on your video, because I've been riding since before you Mother was born, but I just ordered my first electric board for commuting in NYC and thought, what the heck. Your video is well done, no goofy antics and straight common sense advice. Good job and thank you. I'm wondering, can you ollie on a E-board?
Haven't gotten any broken bones and i started riding at age 30, one thing i'll say is, don't get cocky always wear your helmet. For me i got so cocky and i ride extra careful so i don't need it to my commute, but knee pads and elbow pads are more useful for me cuz of bumpy roads or when it rains when i get out of work. Had a couple of scraps on the dumbest bumps and sidewalks and knee pads and elbow pads would've came in clutch. Helmet did save me once when i turned a corner with my weight wrong when i was starting, but overall i don't get too cocky on my speed, i feel comfortable going 15-20 going 25+ down a hill is my limit and i def wouldn't do that without full gear. I have a skatebolt tornado 2. And my biggest mistake is i def skipped the basics i can't push for shit lol
I agree with most of this besides rule no 10 bc I bought a boosted board from eBay and I love it and I bought a separate battery to swap out when one dies and it’s the most fun I’ve ever had, and even though boosted is out of business they still have the best remote
Great advice, and Wear A Helmet definitely should be #1! 👍 After getting used to a less expensive beginner I got a pricey board ( hey, I like gun turrets and a water fountain on my board!) ...which I love it but it is very heavy - pushing it like a normal skateboard will wear you out in no time, I learned, oh man. Weight is a factor. Great vid!
i just bought the ecomobl et2 for 1200 usd, haven't gotten it yet but i hope it is worth it, i needed way to get to work. i ama traditional longboarder so hopefully its not to different.
Yeah I definitely agreed do not ride in the rain I have a head injury that is still not gone away but I still ride just never in the rain anymore I ride teamgee pretty affordable skateboards and their loads of fun with great range if you buy the right ones
I brought my 1st Eboard because of you from Backfire. I’ve had it for 2 years and put countless miles on it. Taken care of it just like you recommended in all your vids. Works like a charm! Thanks Ronnie!
@@KudaBear-gj9br why?!? the board has treated me good . Never had to deal with company. Warranty never really existed as far as I knew going in. I got a G2T I feel like they where made well. Parts are still available from Backfire. I’m sad now. Lol 😝 Nah but for real are they ending up like Boosted?
They are still going strong. They just suck. Their customer service is garbage, and the quality of their boards is poor. You can get a much better board for the money from Tynee or Acedeck. @@ytmaxxammo8591
Funny enough, Self Confidence and lack fo use is a huge deal when just starting out. I didnt ride my board for about a week and im afraid to look new. Then i realized that, we all start at some place and tryin to ride the board. You gota keep it consistent. An hour or 2 a day until your confident. Take your most frequented road then take roads that you havent rode or walked over. plus this is pretty much learning solo.
Ya :) I would say like lane positioning and just understand your moving faster and people may not see you so you kinda need to be on top of everything. Never assume a car will stop at a crossing before making eye contact
Also for me it is doing a wheely and not holding on the controller while going cruise control😂😂 did it for some reason and fell I mean not fell but like u know
2 things. I would never meed with strangers and let them try my board. They can damage it or at the speed that it takes off, steal it. And finally, There is nothing more peaceful than riding alone and not competing with yourself for more skills. The only skill that you need when choosing to ride an electric board is minimal carving and standing on it. You are there for the ride and not the tricks.
Great video and def was a nice reminder to stop comparing my generally stock Onewheel with other and other riders with how much better they are then me and hopefully to push myself to look at the group ride scene in NYC to get out to them soon! Love the vid and hopefully you come out to NYC for a ride one day
When I'm riding with traffic sometimes, I get a sense that cars don't know how fast you're capable of going so try to be aware of that because they won't look out for you. I always check to see if cars are turning before I ride across a street, alley ways can be concerning to if you're in a downtown setting
Im not sure if my board can go up steep hill with a Hub Motor. I would get a belt motor but u have to replace them kinda often I think but it does give more power so maybe it would allow me to go up hill. I'm not sure can u help me out? Im looking at the tynee mini 2
You mention to learn the basic kick push, but you did not talk about the main reason to use it on an esk8: saving battery! Getting from stillstand into motion takes a ton of energy. You can actually save a bit of battery every time you get rolling by always doing a kick push to start, and that adds up.
Wear gloves if you can. Specifically anything with wrist protection. I’ve seen a few falls where skaters hands are shredded or a wrist was snapped. It’s not about if a fall will happen but when.
id mention. watch your top speed. when you start out, you want to go as fast as possible. But i discovered "do i really need to be going so fast? no" and a couple of really fast crashes taught me "slow it down. just be chill" oh and ffs wear a helmet . saved my skull a few times now.
@@RonnieSarmiento my Girlfriend is learning to ride, so it's great to be able to show her some of the things i'm trying to explain, hahaha. always enjoy your vids mate :D
The riding in the rain experience was a quick painful lession for me, i had just got a board designed to be waterproof and my dumb ass thought "rad now i can ride it rain or shine" combine the lack of friction the fact that it was my first premium board (more power than id ever seen with the cheapo amazon boards) and the fact that i was a pretty green skater naturally it resulted in an instant hydroplane as soon as i turned at a moderate speed and i got to put my new helmet to good use lol
Thanks for the tips and also for your inclusive attitude 😊 I am a brand new skater at age 37, female, and a little overweight and I am VERY self conscious since I literally had never stepped onto a board of any kind until a few months ago. I always wanted to learn to skate but assumed I couldn’t because I’m heavy and kind of uncoordinated 😂 But I’m going to keep at it and just focus on improving day by day, starting with learning to kick push and foot brake cuz I realized I’m relying 100% on my remote which probably isn’t good!
Be careful when passing dogs! Most of the time they don’t care, but sometimes they’ll jump out at you and start barking. If you’re not ready for it it could throw you off.
Hello ! Can anyone sudgest an e board for a beginner (i skate but just basics) on 90 kg ? i dont like super speedy boards and i really dont mind to go slow . I just need it to be flexible in the pavement cause here in athens greece the streets are a nightmare !! Really bumpy! A budget one would be amazing like from 300e to 6 or 7 hundred! Cheers!!
This is my first ever comment about an electric skateboard meaning so far I have commented more than I've ridden since I don't yet have my board, I just ordered it.
If only you knew you hurt you would face on only he first day of riding. hitting the floor at 15MPH may seems like nothing but still hurts, especially when its your first time riding
I would add don't get discouraged when you wipeout. WHEN you wipe out. It will happen, you will get immense road rash, it will hurt. But once your better, get back out there and keeping it movin. Just like any hobby, you're gonna learn from failure.
