Got quail at an auction, hen laying and I actually love the taste of the eggs. I would say it's slightly more robust in flavor to chicken eggs. Their eggs produce a type of protein thay helps alleviate allergies, feeding eggs to my cat when I have breakfast. Research beneficial bird for meat and eggs and well profit. They are super cute too.

Thank you again for your content. I had Cutornix years before but not for a while. I just ordered 40 new ones today to add to our 30 meat rabbits and 200 chickens farm. I am trying to figure if I want to put them in the "Ark" (my barn) or build a pen like yours-or just build field tractors. Lumber is SO DANG expensive it is very frustrating. I have 50 new 2x4's delivered a week or so ago. Building your cage/pen will run me 20 2x4's just for the frame before the door and such. The lumber was for my meat birds to be in tractors where I can slice each 2x4 in to a 1x1 and get 2 tractors instead of one. That is for the meat chickens. I think I will do the same for the quail. Anyways love your content, your homestead and the hard work you do for helping educating others in this lifestyle. Your a good man. Have a great weekend.

Watched this video for a 2nd time, its still more helpful and entertaining than watching hours of other people's quail videos, trust me. I started watching Mark a couple of years ago because I was getting quail eggs. Now I've got back into my gardening, stayed positive over Lockdown, and made my 1st black gold thanks to these videos. God* bless, and thank You*

xD I was doing the dishes as I was listening. I plan to get quails for meat which I wish I had thought of years ago. Wanted to do that with chickens but my house was rezoned after I moved in so cannot keep roosters which was one of the reasons I chose my place in the first place. If I literally lived across the road I would still be allowed to have my roosters. I am on 1 acre and planned to be more self sufficient when I moved here 6 years ago and that has not happened. Now its time to start putting an effort in and start my veggie garden and fruit trees and have more then just chickens. Thank you for the informative videos. Love being able to go through your older videos and find what I am looking for.

Love your Videos. Always informative & sound advice. I've just ventured into Backyard Quail raising & looking forward to all the adventures they will bring along lol. I live in Suburban Melbourne by the Beach & have quite the Urban Farm happening. I did my research & quail was the only Bird that suited this environment as they arent considered Poultry which are strictly governed by local Council. They are considered Aviary/pet birds so scoot around the normal regulations. Thanks again for all your advice, keep up the great work. Cheers.

Great videos I'm watching from half way around the world in the United States. Just got my first batch of birds 4 weeks ago and these guys are great. I live only 1 hour away from A&M and I think it's great to here people around the world talking about Texas A&M
@Selfsufficientme
@Selfsufficientme 7 лет назад
How cool is that! You should have no shortage of A&M breeding stock then. They're a great breed of quail and they have a slightly whiter flesh also (less gamey) than common quail - they're my preferred variety by far.

A new comment to an older video. Remember the old cricket clickers we had as kids? These work well on quail and even chickens to an extent ( though no need to guess chicken sexes ). The male quail we have here will look up, and the females will duck down. The only experience I have is with Bobwhites and Scale (blue) quail. I reckon a crinkled up plastic water bottle might work as well if your having a problem with sexing them.

Thanks for the questions and answers video here. I keep a small number of bantam hens in the garden (in the UK) but a quail appeared in a neighbours garden, with its head skinned and a broken toe. Looks like someone must have let it go inside the house and the poor thing got injured before escaping outside. I like the way you keep your birds. I looked at a number of videos on quails from the USA but they all seem to want to keep them indoors in wire hutches and I don't think that's much of a life for any animal. I can't keep this little quail so hopefully the owner will turn up, however, your video has made me think that quails might be the thing for me when I move to a place with a bit more outdoor space. Thanks once again.

You give such clear explanation on all info on quail....love ur channel.. can u tell me how to pick the eggs .. in the sense - how many days after its layed do you pick for incubation.. is there a max duration before an egg turns bad for incubation ? Also does it hatch naturally if left where its layed ? Forgive my silly questions.. I'm really new to rearing quail ..

wow great video on quail and thank you for answering my wire question. i will be starting the run this week so checked you tube right on time! We eat quail all sizes and one taste as good as other however when selling with all the literature saying Texas A&M weigh 10 ounces when actually some do some do not and I have a few down right tiny. I'm not even sure if culling them I can see a difference, I see more of the same ... all different sizes and the average of 7-8 ounces, so I may stop the practice before long of culling them. I guess its kind of like the egg laying, literature all says laying at 6 week when truth is most lay 7-8 weeks but can lay at 6 weeks. great video and all the questions were good.
@Selfsufficientme
@Selfsufficientme 7 лет назад
Yes I agree, egg laying and sizes etc can all be different than the actual "word" - I guess every flock is slightly different. Thanks! :)
@johncox8882

There are times when you need to show the birds like you added clips of sexing the quail but I watch one youtube channel where he sits in his recliner discussing the topics on hand and adds photos or clips like you did for this one. Be comfortable and keep making great videos. I raised the A&M type several years ago and could find nothing on sexing them. So we culled the males we caught crowing and in just a few generations had quail that did not crow. To many males is the reason we stopped keeping the quail. Maybe I need to try and find some more.

Pythons and owls and hawks. WAUW! So jealous right now!!! I just love everything about nature! I do so love to watch birds of prey and snakes are beautiful arent they? Amazing ceatures! I live in Belgium and we are currently enjoying the return of the wild wolf in our environment. Well, at least I am enjoying it! Most people are afraid....so sad. Some wolves have dissapeared, some have ended up dead on the road, some were shot. Why are we so unable to share our world with other creatures? They are strong and we are weak. Maybe we dont like to be reminded of the fact that we are not at the top of the food chain when we meet a bear, tiger or wolf!! Unarmed humans are easy pickings.....soft, mushy and probably yummie like bacon LOL!!!!
