Federer has the best footwork and movement of any player. Because of that his defense is overlooked. Federer moves better than Nadal and Novak and that’s why we have clips and clips of Federer making the godlike winners. Also the power of the one hander back hand. It gives you so much more room to do so much. I think the best defense are players with great footwork and movement to get to the ball but also the one handed back hand gives you so much versatility

And his half volley is also a god-talent weapon

His response to smashes from Roddick and Davydenko with smashes on the run were also impressive.

This is a terrific selection of Federer defensive points, thank you. I agree with ReuvenF957, I just can't believe the rally with Del Potro at about 7:10, I keep watching it over and over.

Fed and Mac are clearly the most talented players of their eras. No question.

I’d put Pete Sampras in that group. Sampras in the 90s was like these clips of making amazing shots

@@h-dawg1876 I'd put Agassi as tied with Sampras as well. Sampras had amazing serve (both first and second), crisp and clutch volleys and the overhead as well. Agassi on the other hand obviously with amazing service return, great half-volleys and clean ballstriking, perhaps the best in history.

@@TheseHoesAreLoyal yeah for sure Andre is good definitely the king of returns the game played faster in his day. Plus going against the best server ever to play the game. However Sampras was a force on both sides from the baseline. Petes forehand was more dangerous then Andre I think his was more penetrating. Andre was king of controlling and dominated the center of the court where he tore you a part. He was for sure amazing on both sides and could hit the ball anywhere. When it comes to all court game Sampras was better. His rivalry with Andre was one sided. Sampras is the most consistent players to ever play the game being the only player to be number one 6 consecutive years in a row. Also Sampras a definitive winning record over all of his rivals. Sampras and Andre met 34 times Sampras won 20-14 Andre. Novak, Nadal and Federer are all close with three or four out of 50 Mets. Sampras dominated the 90s and is more consistent then Federer, Novak and nadal

I like the introduction to the video. I hadn’t seen some of this before. It reminds me of what a great player Fed was/still is.

The point against del-Potro at ~7:30 is probably the best defensive point I've ever SEEN! I have a way to mark my videos as Watched but, kept re-viewing this one just because -- although I've seen that shot in this video and others perhaps a dozen times -- I watch it again and again just so that, maybe, one day, I'll believe it.

Roger did not "find an angle" against Milosevic at the 8:00 minute mark. He made one up!

I would actually say Federer was a very defensive player from 2004-2007.

Imo, Federer's defense was unfderrated. He was great from defense to offense too

for us federer fans was this year a great tennis year. Djokovic lost in davis cup and he won instead only 3 grandslam and atp final ANND he break only the grandslam and atp finals record

Yeah, playing against true champions like Ruud, Sinner and Runje.. Im really wondering sometimes if Djokovic's highlights are so boring for Djokotards to watch, so they come to Federer's video to enjoy some real tennis

@@IAMAMHELLO injury novak without serve destroys nadal by the us open 2011 in the last set with 6-1 even without serve:))))). PRIME FEDERER:)))) GOOD JOKE, sorry sweety but we have facts and numbers that prime federer beat nadal only 7 times from 2004-10, even djokovic beat prime nadal 7 times in 10 months from indian wells2011 until AO 2012...ONLY EMPTY TALK FROM FEDAL FANS like always. I mean when novak and nadal were in the same in their primes everybody saw who wins more slams, masters weeks at no.1 ect from 2011-2014- Even the h2h is 12-7 for prime djokovic vs prime nadal. RG 23, ok and for that nadal won the AO 2022 when novas was not there

@@IAMAMHELLO I MEAN everbody saw that federer won 19 from 20 grandslams when novak was not in his prime or injury. I mean everbody saw that federer won from 2009-10 only grandslam wwhen nadal was injury...SORRY SWEEEEETY but the history books dont lie only fedal fan girls lies:))))). Not my problem that federer lost so many times against nadal and djokovic by grandslams ANNND its not my problem that nadal can only doMimate on clay babbbbbby

What do you mean Roger wasn't known for his defense? That's a ridiculous hindsight opinion 20 years after the fact and not the reality of especially his prime years. Roger was KNOWN for "turning defense into offense." Even if he didn't win the points that didn't mean he wasn't playing great defense within the points. You've got 15 examples of that right here and there are hundreds more.
