I almost bought a 180 cos it had twin exhaust so I assumed instead of asking! I was about to sign the v5 when I noticed the bhp was listed as 180... A narrow miss, I'd have been gutted if I'd not noticed til I got it home.. had to be a 225!
Nice vid, mate! I think your channel is very helpful! I'll throw in some additional information to clear some things up as well as making the confusion even greater simultaneously. :D I just checked some Audi pricing lists from 2005/6. German ones though, so I'm not 100% sure if they're applicable to the UK or the rest of the world. First of all, the 150 PS AUM engine wasn't limited to the roadster. Originally it was available since January 2001. It just took almost two years for it to be adopted for the coupe after that. In September '05 Audi replaced the 150/180 PS engines with slightly more powerful ones. The power was raised by 10 kW each to 163 and 190 PS. Those two are quite rare to find (I got the former one from '06 though, hehe) since Audi produced roughly only 10000 TTs in the last model year, if I read the statistics correctly. As far as I know there are no big differences to their predecessors except the software. Moreover, the 225 hasn't been sold anymore as of 2006. Xenon headlights were standard equipment only with the 6-cylinder versions and the quattro sport. They were optional for every other 1.8T model. On the other hand, one could order the headlight cleaning system in combination with regular halogen headlights... Weird. The 6-speed automatic transmission ("Tiptronic") was indeed only available for the 180 and 190 PS models. The K03S turbo is a misconception. Borg Warner produced only two turbochargers for the TT, the K03 for the "small" 1.8Ts and the K04 for the 225. During the later model years BW revisioned the K03. The only real difference is the compressor wheel, which now had eight instead of twelve wings, making it a bit more robust. Output stayed the same and it's still called K03 by the manufacturer. I read that in a mail someone wrote to BW asking about this topic, published on some forum. They also stated that the newer K03 turbos can take up to 220 PS / 217 bhp. Definitely worth considering before upgrading to a larger K04. Don't quote me on that though. ;) The safest way to tell which engine is inside the TT is to take off the engine cover and have a look on the left side of the engine block. There should be a small embossing with the engine code (e.g. AJQ, AUQ, BAM, BVP, AUM, etc.). I hope thats helps. Have a nice evening!
Every day is a school day! Thank you taking the time to share that information, it is appreciated! also thank you for watching and inputting into The Parrott Bros 👍
@@TheParrottBros thanks man that's awesome. 🙌 thinking of getting a bamair air filter. Would i need the 70 or 80mm for the 180? I haven't seen many moro blue about tbh. Thought it would be cool haha
Hello. I’m thinking about purchasing a 2003 Audi TT New transmission valve body, new headlight assemblies and new bulbs. Minimal rust, frame still has underbody coating. Transmission shifts a little rough still after new valve body, should just need to be driven to correct shifting. Like new tires and brakes. I’m wondering if I should considering value body issue after replacement. Any advice.
The quattro in those TT is like 95% front Wheel drive. All the haldex are front wheel drive. So how big can the difference be between a non Quattro and Quattro when it is a haldex system. I have only driven Torsten Quattro Audi’s
You are correct, they are not true permanent 4wd however they still carry the weight and some drag from the prop, i would expect the fwd to be quite a bit quicker
Great vid. Just picked up a 180 auto for £1600! Insurance values it at £3000! 😅 Do you know if it's a DSG box? It looks like one with the bottom option being S.
We seem to have been given all the oddball TT's here in NZ, as there are more 180 auto's than manuals, and I also happen to have a 2005 190 s-line auto.
It is funny how the market / country of sale has an impact on spec / model variety. I’m guessing as they were such a popular car in England we got a wider variety of options
I do own a 1999 TT MK1(8n) coupe and its a 180 hps (132 KW) Quattro and one single exhaust (5 gear clutch). Never seen my type/model ever on the dutch roads. I guess its a rare model or at the time of production/sales less popular. I bought my model because it is without the later adapted spoiler and never made use of the free of charge spoiler mounting by Audi. I have driven it for more than 18 years now (second owner). Bought it secondhand as soon as I could afford it. Since the introduction of the MK1 I found it instanlly super nice shaped car. More than 340.000 km's run already and sill going strong and I hope that there many more years to come! Don't like the looks of the MK2 and MK3 although they have a better mech. performance. If you intend to by a secondhand TT check how may owners it had before. The more owners the more problems to be expected.
That’s a brilliant story! Nice to have had it for that long as you know it’s been well cared for and you’ve done whats needed when it’s needed. They look so strange without a spoiler as in the UK you just don’t see them without a spoiler. Cool story behind them though and of course it’s where they come from. Nice to see your using it as much as possible with that mileage. Yeah your probably not wrong there is a few exceptions but like anything the more hands something passes through the worse it is 😂😂
Slight Tech update Dominic, upto 2002 the roadster 150 bhp came with Ko3 turbo, cable, when the range got face lifted in 2003 and it got the Bosch ME 7.1 ECU the 150 was given the Ko3s DBW and tuned down for production cost reasons
Don’t really get why you guys act like the 180 isn’t the same, literally any 1.8 t platform is the same, that’s the great thing about them. Yeah okay with some bolt ons the BAM will see 20 more than a 180 with good bolt ons but either way the rods are poo so you have to swap out expensive stuff anyway… They’re literally the same.
Does it have xenon's from factory if yes then that could be why, could have had an accident and they fitted a bumper same colour bumper with them in, few reasons why it could be
I semi forgot / didn't add it in as they also made a 163/150 as well. But for simplicity left it as 150/180/225 :) thanks for watching and commenting as always appreciate it
Sanjay Mall hey buddy, take a look at this sales brochure from 2005. It gives a break down of the different options available & what’s the variants 👍🏻 www.audi.co.uk/content/dam/audi/production/PDF/UsedCars/Refresh/TT/TT%20-%20Feb%2005.pdf
Usually it will be in the build spec of the car, you can look online or speak to Audi who can give you the build spec of your car. Usually you’ll have slightly lowered suspension, noticeable compared with stock height
I purchased my 2005 Mk1 Roadster in Brilliant Red 4 years ago. Why because “I fell in love” with it. At the time of writing it’s done around 129.000 and is just so sweet to drive. I keep it regularly serviced and with its age I’m starting to spend a few quid on it, although no adaptions. When I first bought it all I wanted to do was drive about and enjoy it in my own private little way. Occasionally I will get someone shout over to me “I love your car”. ... It wasn’t until the other day when I was looking all over the place on how to remove the high level “3rd Brake light” I discovered just why others also love their TT’s .... A previous owner has very poorly lacquered the light housing, along with the boot spoiler and door mirror housings. My daughters boyfriend is an absolute gem of a paint sprayer and will be sorting this out.... So getting back to the story, whilst I was looking I came across your videos. After seeing the passion and knowledge you spill out, I felt I had to subscribe. Loving the videos!🍻 . P.s.... I still haven’t found much on that high level 3rd brake light removal yet🤔
Thanks for taking the time to message and tell your cars story. It’s always nice to know how others got into tt ownership! I was similar when I found mine. So I’ve never had to change the 3rd brake light in a roadster no would guess it’s done from the boot but I could be wrong. If your on Facebook join the tt MK1 forum page someone is bound to know If you take a look at this link it shows how it mounts on to the boot. 7zap.com/en/catalog/cars/Audi/brand/3/0/TT%252FTTS/Audi%20TT%252FTTS%20Coupe%252FRoadster%20(1999%20-%202006)/Audi/VEdhV0lBcE95WjNtTkFVRDdPcHo1QT09--/6bbffde8b5b8077d2d0a5796da6eea3c:a1fd1ff34b8141d9feef0f44f57538c4/universal/10101-%3E11507-%3E11524/229945600::945060::394833
Coupe also have a 150 hp it comes with non leather seats and have the same setup as the 180 k03s.have wideband ecu and comes on facelift models 2003 and after Europe engine code is AUM thats how you know its 150 hp is also only fwd
@@TheParrottBros its from Germany to Greece my friend have it an s line coupe version with Aum engine code if you look at Google all audi tt AUM engine is wideband and 150hp
TT quattro has haldex system not torsen so its primarily fwd unless traction is lost in the front then the rear or quattro system haldex comes on unless a hpa controller is fitted to overcome the haldex approach...turning on full quattro similar to torsen.Volkswagen use the same haldex system in the golf etc...but call it 4motion.
I got a good deal on a Quattro TT but I found out from the engine code that its the 180 hp version. I’m looking to tune it to about 300 hp. Is it possible? Or am i screwed?
Kz Z it’s certainly possible will just require a bit more. You can get a k04 set up from a 225 and convert yours. But will some internal work I believe.
Kz Z yeah sure man, Take a look at this page. Near bottom says about what’s needed r-techperformance.co.uk/1-8t-20v-tuning-info-golf-audi-seat-skoda/1-8t-stage-2-tuning-guide/
As these cars get older, you often find weird and wonderful things where people have changed parts over the years due to multiple reasons, that does not surprise me
I mean I didn't watch even a second of this vid. I just wanted to comment that the EASIEST way to tell if it has more than the 180 is this simple IMPOSSIBLE to miss key thing. The 180 hp is a single tip exhaust. The others have 2 tips
See from factory that could well be correct although so does the 150/163/180 & 190 models, but some 20 years on what's to say a previous owner hasn't fitted the twin exhaust and diffuser for the looks as its a relatively easy fit
Zenchilli you say that but one could be down on power, have a boost leak, be in limp mode, be remapped. There is a lot of variables. Plus unless you have driven one what do you compare it to. Say for example if you come from a diesel it’s a totally different power delivery :)
Hi ive got the 1.8 roadster stock, would like to replace the stock air filter for a cone ,dont want to spend to much saw some at halfords for 20 quid will they fit?any suggestions would be great thznks good vids.carl from cov
Leath25 hey dude, thanks for the ongoing support. If your a 180 it’s 70mm filter, 225 is 80mm. Can get one on eBay cheap too. Feel free to drop me a message on fb/ via website if you need help
@@TheParrottBros its a dutch version of the lemans only 100 le mans where imported to the netherlands from audi 70coupes and 30 roadsters. Wich where fitted with xenon lights, sport suspension , half leather half cloth interior and special pearl or metallic paint option's
the 180 already has a charge pipe its just routed differently, a front mount intercooler and pipe work would help as it would massively increase the air in the system
Unfortunately it is true ,and as a matter of fact, auxiliary pump is a must have.I own a 180 tuned to 220 and the water temp rises to 100 oC after turning it off
As usual great content and info. Any chance doing something on alloy wheels, especially light ones for the 225. Another would be swapping the fans. Thanks
Original owner bought most of extra stuff that u could get. Looking 4 mostly fun interior things. Logo stuff , floor mats, cup holders, phone holders. My TT is bumblebee yellow
Anthony Nugai ooo lovely, do love yellow with a black roof. eBay is your best bet for customisation stuff unless anyone knows of anywhere else stateside.
Great video. Informative as always. Hi Guys. I'm currently looking to buy a mk1 225. As I understand earlier cars have the APX engine code with later ones having the BAM designation. Anyway I found a car I like, did a background check on it but the engine number came up as NK013700. I have been looking at forums for a while now but have never come across this designation before. Any help would be greatly appreciated, Thanks in advance, Tom.
Hey Tom, usually the engine code is only 3 characters so not sure what that designation is. I would ask the seller to check and send you a pic of engine tag that is engraved or the boot sticker / sticker in owners manual. That will give you a definitive answer. I have a 2001 Bam in mine. Thanks for watching / commenting
Awesome video absolutely loving the content, I have a bit of an anomaly in that I have a 150 with the baseball leather, I’m guessing people could spec whatever interior options on all models though?
Oliver male that’s very cool, quite possibly. That or a previous owner had put it in since. Although audi do love a special order. Do you also have the same colour knee pads and steering wheel? Thanks for the channel support too 💙
The Parrott Bro’s yeah the knee pads and the steering wheel are all black I should’ve said it’s the black baseball leather in my earlier comment, not the brown/tan one thanks for all the videos really helped me when getting the TT 😀
Demi Swinkels certainly not haha. I’m sure my car has spent some of its life in a salty lake or something. Most are just fine, my one at 183k miles does look well past it, well that was before the total rebuild of course
Demi Swinkels cost maintenance wise between the models is similar, your main issue I’m guessing would probably be insurance if UK based. Upkeep on tt‘s can be high as they are an audi, 15-20 years old, 4wd. So they are all things to factor in when buying a car
George Mpizas Aum does come up as 150bhp, I guess with a map it gets similar figures to the 180 as there is not much difference real world. Bet it drives lovely, k03’s do have a nice feel
The Parrott Bro’s you’re right didn’t think about it I’m sorry! In Europe yeah you can find 150 coupes. But let’s be honest they’re unicorns, roadster or not they still are unicorns.
The Parrott Bro’s yeah! 150-163-180-190-225-3.2 with lots of variations between uk and Europe I’d say. Fun fact is I fell in love with the TT because of a wonderful 150 roadster, light blue (like lighter than denim and with a bit of silver in it), grey leather/alcantara interior, parabols and electric roof (which was an optional on the 150 but was included in the 180 and 225). It was awesome, a real unicorn. And then we got a 225. We had to exaggerate 🤣
Again a great video! But i have a (completely off topic) question my tt 225hp normally runs great but sometimes when its really hot outside and i drove for a good bit it has a stutter above give or take 3000rpm is this a bad coil?
Rhys Jackson realy? The weird thing is that i only noticed it when it was idk 33+ degrees celcius. I went to germany Wednesday and it didn’t stutter at all weirdly
That could be a number of things, n75 failing, boost leak, bad maf etc. Have you got a boost gauge? Unplug your maf and see if it still does it, if it doesn’t it’s that. But like Rhys said could be a boost leak, it’s certainly not a coilpack as they usually fail under load not just at 3k
must be a numpty if you dont know whether or not you have a quattro or a front wheel drive 150. pointless video scraping the barrel here for content mate.
thanks for taking the time to watch / comment, I cater to all, if you already know what your looking at great, on groups for tt's i have seen this being asked day in day out, thus why i made a video. Not everyone is knowledgeable about varying specs and drive train. Plenty more content where that came from too :)
@@blakkno666 fair point but any audi TT driver, particularly a mk1 driver will surely know what model they are buying, irrespective of the fact that there are a number of different models. I mean it's not like you just decide to buy a used car and think 🤔 right I will buy an Audi TT. People buying this mk1 will know what is available and if they don't then it's likely that they shouldn't even be driving one!!
You over estimate people for sure haha join a Facebook group and bring popcorn Some of the questions still shock me now. Not everyone is a car person and from a non car person perspective all tt’s are 1.8L turbo.
