I will ALWAYS enjoy these kind of videos over those who bought new. IMO there's nothing exciting about buying a Porsche / Audi / McLaren and going stage 2. Whoopty-doo. This car has history, a story old enough to buy alcohol and go college. So much more respect and appreciation.
@@carlcockroft7077 you can build a car in the same vain for road course, time attack, and auto cross purposes just as you would a car like this built for drag racing. The purpose of the build doesnt change his point, which is the fact that its much more exciting to see something like this built over time than something thats purchased off the lot, gets a few bolt ons and its considered a "build".
This guy is so humble and knows every square inche of his car, and the history behind it I respect that about him, he basically grew with the car in terms of experience and can relate to the different variations of the car throughout the years.✅️
Man, that intro history is taking me back! Back when there was 1 (ONE!!) 1,000hp 2JZ in the entirety of the US in a street car, and your average high end 4G63 was 500hp. Acquired my S13 in '98, already had parts before I had the car, blew up my first trans in 2000. 😁
It had a fake body kit and cheap apr aluminum wing - typical of rice at the time his 330whp run was a 15.45 When he put the stock bumper back on and got serious he went 10s 10 years after the rice runs
Hearing the history and seeing photos made this video really awesome! It brought me back to the early 2000’s when the aluminum wings and Konig wheels on 90% of the modified civic’s. I’m glad I got to experience those years.
Man this was amazing to watch and see, felt like you were living through the build, seeing the dyno on that huge monitor was nostalgia, great build and video coverage, a literal time capsule!
This one was definitely better than the usual video. I loved seeing the VHS tapes and old footage of the car. All that was missing was the street racing and parking lot meet ups.
And we don't forget about them Axis wheels. Also the Racing Hart C5s LOL. The OGs KNOW!!!! We were reading Sport Compact Car and Turbo mags during lectures in college. 🤣🤣
Makes me feel old. I was there at the dsm shootout when the car was sponserd by tpg and i was also there when he crashed. Glad to know that he is still in the game and the car still rolling.
Love this dude. Saw this car at the shootout this year, it is insanely quick. Humble down to earth guy and what better shop than my hometown’s tpg to tune it :)
This is so cool to see on that racing channel! I was in middle school and lived a couple houses up from his house and saw it in the body kit / wing /graphics stage early 2000’s and it helped me get into cars. Crazy to see it now. So cool to see an amazing build and hearing all the big names from over the years. Also loved the hometown footage. Such a sick video!
Loved, loved, my 1990 EAGLE Talon AWD. Bought it new, White w/the black top & rear spoiler...had some work done to it, minor stuff; Full 3" downpipe...and exhaust all the way back, and some other fun stuff. Usta straight murder 5.0 Stangs, who were caught unaware as to how these JDM cars performed. It was a real blast to drive. Truly miss that car.
Thanks for the thumbs up. I still have the FORCED PERFORMANCE GREEN (ported) Turbo, HKS 264 cam, CROWER springs & Titanium retainers, TiAl Wastegate & BOV for that Talon...that never got installed...car was stolen outta my driveway. But....still have all those parts. Sad
Thank you...Thank you Thank you TRC for showing the legend Brad some love with his iconic 2G. Freaking amazing! Nothing else to say. TRC...you're the real MVP!
That’s awesome he showed history videos of the car. WoW man! He was tuning before tuning got really super hot. I never knew how influential “The Fast And The Furious” was back then. I was like age 6-7. Car scene really blew up! The movie really enlightened me to modded cars. The very first scene when Brian was shifting and the “banging gears” sound effects 😅and how the screen play quickly cut to the shift knob , then his foot hitting the clutch, and him back on the gas. 😢 Paul Walker may have been the one to teach me to drive manual well before I knew what brake pads were. 🤣 (I miss him man forreal.) man, that old video of his car on the dyno took me back. Thank you man. Thank you.
@@Scrapla1 yeah ! Cannonball run was such a wild movie man! I was young when I first saw that too! I remember the scene when the guys ran up on the van in the road, and the people in the van were having an orgy. 🤣 that one girl had her hands all up the window loving the moment. I was too young to see that. But I was already hip to what was going on. 😂🤦♂️
This is why I love the DSM community. There are a lot of folks who've been a part of our tribe for years, decades even. It's tight knit but very accessible. We've all felt the rollercoaster of pain and disspointment with these cars though we've also felt the elation and accomplishment of commitment to them. Long live the 4G.
Dude this is great footage. I had a 93 240sx coupe paid 500 bucks for in 2007 121k miles wish I had the footage of it. Started with bolt ons than lowered than wheels than swapped for sr20.. good times good memories 😊
THE BEST BEST BEST TRC VIDEO!!! this video really hits home.. real race car, real build. My guy put his heart and soul into this car . RESPECT FROM THE BRONX!!
I have owned 3 DSMs, a 92 GSX Eclipse, a 95 GSX Eclipse and a 95 TSI Eagle Talon. They were the most unreliable POS cars i have ever owned but man they were fun.
I had a 2G with a built 6bolt back in the day, fast as a bat out of hell on the street. I’d always say “mostly stock” when people ask after blasting them by 20 cars.
Seeing this kind video always puts a smile to my face, so much history and effort put into it over the years. I'm currently building my 95' AWD talon making 20lbs with a setup straight out of the early 2000's with a 14b/16g hybrid and a maft (soon to get DSM link hopefully) This gives me motivation to keep going and make my own story to tell.
Watching this kind of content is incredibly inspiring. This man recorded/remembered the WHOLE journey and NEVER forgot the people who helped lifted him up. This is a true testament to what the car community is. I hope more enthusiasts find this video. Hell , I hope the world sees this! Great video!
From being a local Pittsburgher and a TPG Customer. It has been a blast seeing this thing evolve from the moment I got my license to now having a moddestly quick car with a P&R engine myself in my turd...
Ahhhhhh yes DSM love, 4G63 was so fun.. even though it left me on the side of the rd wrenching so many times 16 years ago. T67 spools, FMIC coupler leaves.
Cool video! I graduated HS in 2000 and wanted an Eclipse GSX so bad! then FF came out and ruined it for me, so I bought a BMW E36 '95 325i, built & sold it. '98 328is, built & sold it. '97 M3, built & sold it. '01 540i 6spd M-Sport, built & sold... Had my sights on an E46 M3 till the prices went nuts... so I'm just gonna have to build what I want, E46 M-Wagon! the end.
Really nice video! brought back really good memories when I started with my Mitsubishi Eclipse gst then went full gsx. Nice to see that dedication 23 years in the making and still going! Those 4g63 really had potential!!
I got to see this car multiple times In person. I've never known the full story behind it. Now I do!. That's awesome! Tpg and Nate FTW! Same guys who built and tuned my car! Nowhere near as cool as this tho
I got into tuner cars in the late 90's, also way before F&F came along. I could relate to this so much, apart from me not having a 1500hp drag car lol. I love DSM's, I had '92 1g myself, and eventually I sold it and got an r33 Skyline. I love the r33, but I kinda regret selling the DSM so sooner or later I'll probably get a 1g again if I find a clean one.
Back around 2007 there used to be an orange 1st gen (used to be primer black) in the Pittsburgh south area that was quite surprising and popular in the area at that point of time. Everyone hated on the 4 cylinder cars till their feelings were what got hurt. I've still never heard another DSM sound like it either.
