Still the most beautiful tank of ww2 in my opinion if they would have produced this tank earlier in the war which means they would have fixed the reliability of the big cat it would have been interesting to see how the allies dealt with it

The Germans used a few big gyro stabilised 3.7cm and 5.0cm Panzer III in North Africa. The Panther, Ausf F was going to get stabilised optics. The gun would then fire automatically when it swept through the firing point. This is how big guns on Battleships like the Bismarck worked. You know the position of the gun and it’s angular velocity and the firing pin is fired at the right point. They still try to stabilise the gun but it will be very crude.. The stabilisation of the Sherman was fairly crude, they tried to stabilise the whole gun to which the optics were rigidly fixed so it didn’t work very well. Best to stabilise the optics separately. Servo technology and control technology of the day was not up to thoroughly stabilising a big heavy gun.

That panther may not have gun stab. But the ride and drive on them was soo precise and comfy, coming close to an exotic German comfort sedan.. Laur Gopnik Thanks for the positive feedback. The Panthers suspension was specifically designed to keep the tank steady enough to fire on the move. It was not unusual to fire on the move for either side. If you look at the Panther in videos it seems to majestically glide across the landscape whereas the Sherman bobs sound like a cork in the ocean. Some Sherman’s had a gyrostabilised gun (in elevation only). A pair of precision micro mechanical contacts called “silverstats” made electrical contact with the gimbal cage of a gyro. This operated a electromagnetic coil that deviated a paddle that was in a balance of two hydraulic jets on either side. The back-pressure was hydraulically amplified to drive the gun back in position. It was quite coarse in the sense it was only on off control. The optics was mechanically fixed to the gun and mantelet so the gun sight would have been as coarsely stabilised as the gun. I think it helped the Sherman fire quicker after stopping more than fire on the move. Ordern gun stabilisation Systems measure the angular position, angular velocity and acceleration of the gun and control all three parameters. The “big gyro” stabilised 3.7cm and 5.0cm guns of some Panzer III directly had big gyros of about 20cm and 25cm or so directly stabilise the gun. Thus worked but couldn’t be applied to bigger guns. The range finder directors of German cruisers and battleships were initially stabilised with big gyros but then gave way small gyros that used 15kW D.C. motors to torque the director into level. The motors were increased to 20kw when radar antennas added more wind load burden. The stabilisation System for Panther and Tiger II would have stabilised the optics perfectly as this was easy to do and this would then have been used to fire the gun at the correct moment when it was at the right level.

The authentic music is a pain in the ass and ears. And the picture-quality of the video is also authenticly sad. I never liked this monumentaly disaster-music. With good comments and less music it could have been mich better.

meme thief true but there were less jumbos out there then they were Tigers.

Tigers and Panthers were just as rare and even more rare in working order, because of breakdowns. and when they came across one, the Shermans armour holded up pretty well, taking several hits, before being knocked out.

@Erich Von Manstein yes It did my friend, there are many reports stating that Shermans took several shots before being knocked out and I have seen several Shermans in real life, as monuments today that took several bounce shots before being knocked out.

To come back on topic, you said" no it didn't" making it look like you think the Sherman would burst into flames with one shot, and the Tigers would just destroy everything in their path. In reality the Sherman didn't burst into flames within the first shot. You also said " that the knocked out part is really important here" the same goes for the Tiger, simple things could knock out the Tiger tanks. Tiger 131 was knocked out by simple blow to the turret ring, Tiger 2 tactical number 222 was knocked out by an M10 in Stavelot by a simple side shot and so was the Tiger 2, now at Bovington. Just because it's heavy and big, doesn't make it a good tank and It just could be taken out by simple means. In your last post you stated that, the Sherman is not the best protected tank, but in reality it did pretty well, you also state that it didn't have the biggest gun, which the later Shermans tanks had, because they had the 76, this gun could knock out the bigger German tanks.

Rear echelon types - they most likely wouldn't have even come close to the fighting.

The 80% tanks knocked out by airplanes is a bit of a myth and most were lost by anti tank weapons other tanks and just abandoned because of low fuel and breakdowns.

Most were lost to the vastly superior M3 Stuart tank.

L71 is a beast destroys everything from 2km except the encounter with t29s

The final version Ausf F, it had been made, was being tested with the “small turret” or “schmalturm” that looked like the turret of the Tiger II. This turret offered about 30% to 40% more armour for the same weight. This was made possible by a space efficient coaxial recoil recuperator. The initial versions of the tank probably would have used the standard 7.5cm L70 but the 8.8cm KwK 43 of the Tiger II could be fitted. When firing at high elevation angels the 8.8cm gun had to be lowered to allow the loader to reload. Because firing rate would have suffered in these situations it was planed to fit the 1100m/s L100. Modern tanks would just use the power elevation drive to automatically lower the gun into the perfect loading position, I suspect this would have been a better solution and possible. Yes, the final version of Panther would be it could take the 88

It was already too heavy for a medium tank, and that kind of extra weight would have destroyed its already overtaxed drive train.

The engine was total garbo, so it would still be a mediocre tank at best.

@@PanzerPicture you are uploading decent videos, maybe a bit too few from the German perspective, I sense a certain kind of bias coming from you. Panther was not a mediocre tank, far from it. You made many videos on Panther and yet you seem to not know much about it. The engine was doing its job well. The only issue was the drive which lasted for around 150km, in terms of penetration and effectiveness it was matched only by the Firefly. It was an extremely feared tank due to its range and high muzzle velocity as well as accuracy. Furthermore, when you show only dead Panthers it may seem like they were vulnerable. But let's not forget the Eastern Front statistics and that is for every German tank to be destroyed, 4.1 soviet tanks died. Also, no allied weapon on the western front could reliably penetrate Panther from a farther than 90m distance, far too close compared to the Panther's killing range, which leads me to believe most of the tanks shown in the footage were bombed by planes

TectonicTsunami most of these tanks were taken out by bombs rockets and naval guns. The Germans had 0 air support so the typhoons and bombers laid waste to their tanks on the west front. Allies had very few tanks that could take a Panther or Tiger 1&2 out. A head up ground war would have been devastating for the allies on west front.

@@MrBigstick25 Indeed. You can also see a lot of scattered debris and garbage surrounding a lot of the shown dead tanks which may imply a wide explosion radius to all sides which further confirms your statement regarding bombs

@@traktori2888 the Sherman was an adaptable tank that could be modified to a variety of uses. It could swim, it could carry a bridge, it could be up-gunned. The Sherman was the best tank of the war, in my opinion.

This most overrated tank was years ahead of its time and is what spawned the main battle tank of today. I’d loved to of seen the panther go tank vs tank against the Allies “without” their air superiority.
