I rarely comment on toob vids. You are a gifted communicator and i would imagine you positively empower 100x more people than your comment/count/subscriber tally suggests... no conceit, no hipster jargon, just pure, imaginative, intelligent information. thank you
Bit slow on the uptake here but you could do the polyphony trick for free with pure data, and if it was needed on an embedded device that Pd script could run on a raspberry pi zero. You could also do it with an Arduino but more work + basic electronics
there's something really intriguing for me about the digitakt, it feels limited (compared to a DAW let's say but the amount of granular control you get with it really opens up the space for experimentation... it kindof feels like how my gameboys feel with their very basic 4 channel tracker ROM (LSDJ) how on the surface it seems quite limited but if you really control them well you can do anything. I really want to buy one now. I need to sell some stuff....
Sequel please! This is so good. I can’t wait to sit down and try these all out. I’ll follow up with any thoughts and questions. Thanks for the great vid.
This is incredible! Brilliant way of teaching. Everything actually made sense, and this is my first day with my Digitakt! Please do a sequel presentation!
Ideas for Polyphony: For a song you only need 4 Accords, sometimes 6, but not more than 8. So you can do it like you showed it, with 4 Tracks and create 8 accords with the step sequenzer. Than you can let play the sequenzer and resample it with all 8 Accords than you have all 8 Accords as a sample and you can use it with one track. you only have to change the start and endpoint of the sample for each step in the sequenzer.
The tip at 13.05 about the Wavetables has featured in so many of my jams, and I'd never have though of it without your vids Loopop. Thank you so much for educating us, and for providing such clear and well presented tutorials. I would love to see another advanced Digitakt tutorial :)
I would love to see a new video like this showing techniques you get from experimenting with the new firmware update. I’m sure the new base width filter, parametric EQ, and new LFO is gonna open up a whole new range of possibilities. The digitakt is such an innovative instrument. I recently watched a vid where someone was able to timestretch and pitch shift and even use slicing using the lfo and retrig
So good! Would love to seeore videos on the Digitakt. Like a short series or masterclass. Including tips that pertain to what's possible with the additional firmware updates in 2023
Pro tip for dialing in the single cycle pwm: when initially setting up the sound load the same wave into a second track and set the pitch an octave up. Set the amp envelope to infinite decay and get a note droning. Now dial in your original track start and length parameters until you get a centered selection tuned to the same pitch as the drone. You now can continue your sound design with a pwm wave that has accurate pitch to the original wave. 🏄 Save the finished product as a sound easily load it up.
You solved the PWM problem, wow! I was absolutely sure that it should be possible to do PWM sounds using Digitakt's LFO, but couldn't figure out the solution myself. Thanks for the tips!
I love your videos and reviews - so succinct. What I am going to pose on Elektronauts is that Elekton truly "open the box" and allow for "normalized internal patching" of LFO's to multiple parameters w/+/- sends. If the machine can handle it with a MIDI cable, there's no logistical reason it can't be written into the OS... right? Let's put... "requestive pressure" on them to Make it so... ;)
You are an absolute madman! I've had my Digitakt for 6 months now and I never would have thought that I could get my mind blown this hard, Holy Shit. Amazing stuff!
Sequel please!! Taking into account the new Digitakt os and what is possible with all the new options. Your videos are awesome go to reference for me btw! Thank you!!
I just recently got a Digitakt, so these videos showcasing all the cool stuff it can do are amazing! Your videos especially are fantastic, and I'd love to see a part 2 of all the weird stuff a Digitakt can do
I have to say it seems incredibly limited to even the very simple Roland MC-101, which can easily play cords using a sample with near limitless polyphony. I don't really get why they made it so darn difficult to use the Digitakt for playing chords.
This is really apples and oranges, as these two machines offer totally different functionality. For one, the MC-101 is not even a sampler. Yes, you can play samples, but it can't sample itself (unless I'm mistaken). It only has four tracks instead of 8, etc.
@@chadjohnson-authormusician8072 Then again one track of the MC-101 can contain the entire drum set and more. I agree they're not very comparable except maybe at the shallow groovebox level.
This couldn't come at a better time. Have been slowly researching the DT and am getting closer and closer to pulling the trigger.Even though it has some limitations, I think that can be a positive:forcing you to experiment more. Thx for your wonderful tutorials.
Loved this! So many great ideas! I’ve been messing around with a way to get the Octatrack’s “one button remix” trick working on the Digitakt. I have done it, but it’s a pain to set up tbh. Briefly: Set up two tracks with the same sample (eg a 1 bar loop) on each. Set track 1’s trigs to FIL, track 2’s to ___FIL, use LFO on each track to cycle through the sample start (you’ll need to turn LFO retrig off for every trig except the first one so basically you are faking a sliced sample. Change track 2’s length to 15 trigs (for example) and every time you hit FILL you’ll have a juggled sample. The only time it doesn’t work is if you hit FILL just as the play point hits the trig that retriggers the LFO, then it’s stutter city ;-) Anyway - awesome video. I’m off to play with some granular samples and dynamic ratchets. Thanks again!
Hmm... You could modulate the Decays ping pong function on and off and the steps it plays at to make it sounds like you've got multiple delays processing the sound. You'd have to step lightly and program every thing precisely and you wouldn't be able to overlap the delays but for shorter feedback delays that could be cool to have different steps delay in different ways across different tracks.
This has to be one of the best digitakt tutorials on youtube. I don't even have a digitakt but there are so many great tips in here that I think would work on my octatrack as well. Thank you for doing what you do.
10:55 Try smashing/breaking glass as sample, short attack/decay amplitude with highpass filter and you have some nice hats! Put a little sample start via LFO and the hats are not the same every time.
Any idea on how to play arpeggios? The lack of a proper arpeggiator was what let me down when I bought it on impulse after finding an unreal bargain, and its ease of use, despite what most people say, was what surprised me positively! Great tips as always btw!
What video is it shown how to save and use sounds/vs....sounds..the 2 different banks per project available. How do you add sounds to the sounds list...you know what I mean....I think....THAKS LP
Hello, thanks for your great work.! Can you please please please recommend a site that I can visit to preview and purchase samples to download. Titled correctly, everything in specific folders, just sample/listen/like/purchase/download. Can I download non Electron samples into my DT or MODELS SAMPLES. Thank you for your assistance if you have a video about this kindly advise me. I've been holding off on a Octa/RYTM incase behringer make a 909 clone, do you think it's still a possibility please.? Is there software that assists to copy samples, hopefully it copies midi files to. My DT would love that. Peace ✌
Great tutorial, always enjoy the way you lay out the explanations. Whoever downvoted must have hit the wrong button or is just mad they don’t have a digitakt. Only thing I can think of.
Fantastic tips 🤟 Getting this tomorrow! Do you have any videos on how to link up and work with Moog Grandmother? Also have DFAM. I want to sync everything to Cubase on pc
You are an excellent comunicator and always find the way to surprise me with clever ways to expand the creative possibilities of every device. Bravo and thank you! 💚
While it’s of cause good to have another LFO it just a bit over complicate to use cables or programs for it. I’m sure it is possible for Elektron guys to implement the ability to use midi track LFOs in tracks with firmware update. But I don’t think it’s going to happen because then DT will trespass territory of OT or Rytm and Elektron known for distinguish features between products... sadly...😒
When I did the wavetable thing sometimes the trigger will be silent and idk y. So it doesn’t sound as cool and it’s really choppy. Do you know what I’m doing wrong?
@obdeisib cirrus i just watched this video again and though exactly the same thing and then to look down at the comments and well here we are! 16 advanced Digitakt ideas, tips and tricks Volume 2 new firmware update would be so influential. As a now Digitakt owner and user i would get a kick outta that
Great video. Regarding the PWM: Is there a technique or methodology you used for adjusting the sample length & start position to remove the pitch wobble? Or is it just trial and error?? I'm really struggling!
what i am looking to find out is how capable the digitakt is at handling midi cc. i want to convert cv to midi cc and map them to the digitakt. i love that granular sound, and i want to control that via my eurorack (via acoustic drum kit input (giving away my secrets here)) . it looks like lfo speed can be mapped to cc. you think thats something i can achieve?
Great video sir, as always. For the wavetable synth to work smoothly one can as well take the several waves and concatenate them to make a longer sample and then the PWM should do the trick! Thanks for the ideas!
Great advanced digitakt demo! I’ve been doing a similar thing to the waterdrop synthesis recently. Take a single cycle waveform and max the filter res and add a filter eg. This sort of acts like an exciter for the filter and changing the filter cutoff can get anything from water drops to bongo hits.
hola que tal quisiera saber si un sampler de drum bass se puede trocear en varios samples y usarlo como uno quiera pero parece que al ponerlo en los números no coinciden .necesito ayuda de como se haría usar la muestra y trocearla y secuenciarla en digitakt
You have impeccable timing, Sir. I just picked up a Digitakt and was perusing RU-vid for some tutorials, and VIOLA! ... brand new video on the Digitakt by Loopop. Keep 'em coming, man. You're doing gods work!
Awesome! Can you please share the settings for the PMW? 🙏 When I did it, I got the PMW effect, but with some ‘popping’ or clicking sounds - which were more apparent when I dropped it by each octave. What’s going on here, and how can I fix it? Actually, I think I can hear the same artefact when you drop the Octave right down at 2:45. Is it just an unavoidable effect with this technique?
Also, obviously the loop points/length determine the pitch of the effect - is there an easy way to adjust the tuning so that when I hit a C, I get a C? (Or do I just have to do it by ear, against another tuned instrument?)
Awesome video, as always. Thanks! One question though - the BomeBox script is for midi loopback without a midi cable? It is not just for polyphony and can be used for other tricks you’ve shown, right?
Thanks, the piano loop granulation sounded really pleasant. I have been wanting to buy the rk for ages but forgot about it, guess 2020 is the year i will buy it :)
great trick with LFO is modulate PAN with 1k or 2k LFO .. with just subtle amount (not more than 10-15%) you don't get too much "ringmod-like" character of sound but you get nice stereo spread - like simole chorus (which is lacking on digitakt a lot ;)
Greatest video on digitakt ever! one thing: “dynamic ratchets” aren’t ratchets, they’re a forward-looped sample with modulated sample length. If you turn retrigger on it, it actually won’t work.
