2 years ago loaded loaded some 7/8 key drives in federal hulls w a nitro card and 2 half inch hard fiber wads, shot as cast and are accurate out of a old single shot w full choke barrel...it swages as it's shot lol no leading
I wouldn't shoot those steel BB's in that 16... We cracked the barrel on an old Stevens 311 12 gauge shooting steel in it a while back. Had to have it cut down.
Those shells are for a much more modern h&r topper with a modified choke, or my cylinder bore gun. I don’t shoot a lot of steel, barely any actually, but I do plan on taking that topper goose hunting eventually. I plan on doing my flitecontrol mod with the steel load and seeing how that does. I do use Mylar with steel.
Ha! Don’t let your wife see you spillin’ powder coat on the kitchen stove lol. I’m gonna have to try this, 16ga slugs and buckshot in my area are non existent.
I wouldn't dare shoot that one through my full choke single shot. It's way too large diameter for it. But, I bet you a nickel that you could fit a 20 ga lyman slug down inside of your favorite wad and use it like a sabot slug. They weigh about 3/4 oz so I'm sure you'd pick up some fps velocity if you used 7/8 oz load data with some shot card spacers. Especially if you are using more of your homemade flite control wads, that ballistics products are constantly out of stock of.
You can easily size these down for full chokes, that’s what I’ve been doing. Also doing it with Lyman 12 gauge sabot slugs. I actually do use the 20 gauge Lyman slug with a couple powder coatings in CSD wads for my 16’s. They work good. I also use them in 24 gauge as full bore pellet slugs and they’re accurate as can be.
I don’t, but the mold for them is about $30 and you can cast them using the lead from target loads. Not counting the cost of the mold, you can load a whole box of slugs for $8 a box or however much a box of cheap birdshot is these days.
