Finally, Apple has created the 16in Macbook Pro that is not only beautiful and functional but also POWERFUL for video editors and graphic designers. ►⏩►⏩ Check specs and pricing in the links below…
►►► 16in Macbook Pro - i7 - ( geni.us/i7MacbookPro16 - Commission Earned)
►►► 16in Macbook Pro - i9 - ( geni.us/i9MacbookPro16 - Commission Earned)
You guys have no idea how excited I am to get my hands on the new 16in Macbook Pro. Since I tested the latest 15inch Macbook Pro my confidence was beginning to restore in Apple’s interest to satisfy the needs of creative professionals like myself and so many of you watching this video. But I still had my doubts. Overheating issues, keyboard malfunctions, and laggy performance were all still a concern to me.
Let me say, that is ALL over and so much MORE!
Screen
Honestly, the boost to 16 inches is really not a big deal… but what is a big deal is the fact that they have fit this 16in screen in a laptop that is barely bigger than my favorite model of the Macbook Pro (2015 model), which btw has a 15.4in screen. So they have only given us a total upgrade of .6 inches.
Color Gamut
The screen is wonderful. They are using the same True Tone Retina LCD display. However, they have boosted the resolution to 3072x1920. It reaches a 100% gamut range on Adobe RGB and P3. So it is color accurate and sharp as ever.
There are also some really nice upgrades that I am sure most of us were not expecting.
Speakers
SIX, that is the number of speakers hidden below the keyboard deck of the 16in Macbook Pro. And let me tell you it makes a BIG difference. Crisp tones, low bass, and clear vocals. Check it out…
The previous models have relied on two speakers to deliver your tunes, and this unexpected upgrade goes to show how Apple still cares deeply about the user experience of its consumers. YOU DON’T want to hear the speakers on my Dell XPS 15. They are awful.
Built-In Mic
Although Apple still has a built-in webcam that only pumps out 720p quality video they have upgraded the microphone to what they are calling studio-level performance. Check it out and let me know what y’all think in the comment section below.
Keyboard
The scissor-switch keyboard is back and it feels, well just like the old one (which is probably the biggest compliment you could pay this laptop). They have given 1mm of travel to the keys to the former .56mm given to the butterfly keyboard, which I will say I did not MIND after using it during my tests, but that does not mean I prefer it by any means. I love the longer key travel.
Trackpad
Beautiful, responsive, BIG, and capable as ever the trackpad is still the pride and joy of this computer in my opinion. After spending the past 4 years on a Dell XPS 15 I must say I am happy to be home on the Macbook Pros incredibly engineered trackpad. I went through my entire college career using only the trackpad, whereas I could not go two days on the Dell XPS without almost losing my cookies.
Ports
Yep, I still loathe the ports for the lack of usability on the fly and their simple lack of ports. Think about it. You start with four ports, but wait, no you need to charge your computer and hook up two screens (which I do every day). Now you have one port. I don’t know about you but my workflow demands much more than one port outside of my standard hook-ups.
Battery
With the new 100W battery (FAA-Approved for Flight) Apple is claiming 11 hours of battery, but those battery tests are run at 50% screen brightness while browsing the web. If according to my tests for graphic designers and video editors you are looking at anywhere from 6-8 hours of battery life.
The model I am reviewing has the following specs:
Specs:
Processor: Intel 9th Gen 6-Core i7-9750H
RAM: 16GB
GPU: AMD Radeon Pro 5300M with 4GB of GDDR6
SSD: 512GB SSD
Weight: 4.3 Lbs
Tests:
9 Minute 4k Export to 4k - 5:41.49
9 Minute 4k Export to 1080p - 1:39.88
2GB Raw File “Save As” - 19.02
In order to improve the performance on the 16in Macbook Pro, they ave added a larger heatsink and thicker fans blades to cool the system. This has worked very well, however, the fans in the i7 version had to kickup pretty high to keep this machine running cool and fast.
This review should not have celebrated such simple achievements. Many of the things mentioned in this video are things that Apple should have been accomplishing for the past 4 years, but due to Apple’s quest to create the thinnest high performing laptops, they goofed up a little. But I can say with near-perfect confidence (outside of what to expect with the keyboard) that the Apple laptop is BACK in a big way!

Hi ben, how much good is this for Da Vinci Resolve and Premiere Pro for 4K projects. Do I get the colour consistency in both OTT platforms and Cinema projection? Like you said it had 100% in DCI-P3 and sRGB. But could you tell me the BitDepth of the Display and how much NITS and Contrast Ratio it is producing? Also, could you tell me how much percentage of Adobe RGB it covers?

Hi Ben - I'm a Graphic Designer and occasionally use FCPX for video work (FullHD to 4k rarely) - and wondered what spec you would recommend? I predominantly use Adobe Illustrator / Photoshop and Lightroom. So not using any intense 3D rendering software etc. Appreciate any help as I've been told upgrading the ram and graphics card is recommended but unsure of what a difference it would make. My current mac is a 2014 15in Macbook pro so I do accept any version of this mac will be an upgrade, but want to make sure I future-proof my purchase as best as possible without breaking the bank!

Chari Chair Adobe apps are not optimized for multiple cores. I would assume it work well for AE. Sure the Mac Pro or IMac Pro would perform better but then you have to analyze the performance/cost/value and I think the MBP is a winner until Adobe get their app rewritten.

I get my new MacBook Pro tomorrow. Mine has the i9 with the 8Gig video memory so it'll perform even better. Bottom line: if all this thing does is keep rendering video in the background while I review my clip, it'll speed up my production process dramatically. This is a big deal for me because I work with a blue screen, keying, and compound clips. Right now it's review... then hurry up and wait. I often take a little nap. In fact the whole process of actually pulling together a video takes about 4-5 days and my whole life comes to a screeching halt. I don't exercise. My apartment becomes a train wreck. I eat like shit. But apparently it will not only continue rendering while I review, but everything will move along a lot faster when I'm not. Good Heavens. I can't wait to start my second channel. I'm waiting until tomorrow to start work on my latest video.

@@BenGKaiser It absolutely is. I'm working my first video now and I can tell the difference. I have Final Cut analyze videos as they're imported, and it's as quick as can be. It also renders video in much bigger chunks than my two-year-old MacBook did. It will save me a tons of time. i also keep forgetting this screen is bigger than my old MacBook. I really don't care for using full screen, and I keep having to remind myself to streeeetch out my window - because it's still got more room to spread out. Aaaaand... it still doesn't render while I review. I wonder what's that's about? MacBook problems. How we suffer so!

Hey, man. I recently bought this base model as a way for me to edit light video projects (mostly images with narration) and to write. The videos are generally 13-14 minutes long. Exported at 1080p takes 6-7 minutes. On top of that I usually can't have too much else open during export without a lot of lagginess. I understand this is only 16gb RAM, so that might be just how it is (although Activity Monitor shows I never hit over 12GBs used). But I want to make sure I'm not messing up with the export, because that's much longer than your export and I don't even have many video clips in my timeline (again, mostly images). Am I doing something wrong, or is this what I should expect? Thanks, Ben.
@BenGKaiser
@BenGKaiser 4 года назад
That extra few minutes on your timeline will add a good 30 seconds to a 1 minute to your export. Which according to my tests would align with the results I got. I hope this helps. Shoot me back any further questions or details. I am happy to help.

Consider buying a Thunderbolt 3 (Not USB Type C) drive to process video. The performance benefit is exponentially better.

@@BenGKaiser thanks, i ask cause i noticed that the 16 base is perfect for 4k but if you apply the gopro 360 plug in to reframe a 360 video it is very laggy if you dont create a proxy. Not sure if it is a hw issue or plug in incompatibility.

Ben G Kaiser Thanks, I’ll appreciate it when you can. Basically having an agreement between myself as the designer and the client. He will need services such as designs and he mentioned me having to update their social media platforms. So basically doing their marketing, I suppose. But as a freelancer or a designer, I am not sure how to go forth. What should I include and how do I even calculate my fee. He mentioned a monthly fee so assuming it’s not pay as you go type Lol, I’m sorry that I cannot explain properly. Have you done something like this before? I will really appreciate your help, thanks a mil and have a great holiday
