The Crossbow is a 16" rubber-powered free-flight model airplane. The original (red) Bostonian version was designed by Peter Kaiteris, while the (orange) Embryo version was a collaborative design by Peter Kaiteris and George Bredehoft. Filmed by Tom Hallman & Peter Kaiteris, using a Canon SX20, iPhone 11Pro & 14Pro, and a Nikon D3400 70-300mm. Music by Ben Linwood & Yehezkel Raz via ArtList.
A short kit is being offered by Volaré Products: volareproducts...

There is an elegance and gracefulness to seeing a properly trimmed free flight model soar through the sky. Thank you for sharing.

Words like 'futuristic' & 'groundbreaking' are overused, but I sense that they apply here. You can expect this design to be emulated. What impressed me immediately, with the indoor vsn and then was borne out subsequently was the smoothness of the initial transition from power burst to power phase equalibrium; no rash leaping up followed by a semi glide/wishful flying for a thermal.. Although its anyone's guess what the outdoor version can accomplish in a big, wide mid Summer doughnut shaped job.. Also, the structural stability MUST have a positive effect on the weight economy of the build I'd've thought, what with the wing & tail having mutual strength, and this design aspect will come in v handy in the early morning or post golden hour misty-baggy-tissue time. Brilliant. Thank you Gentlemen, it's been a while since we last heard from this utterly wonderful channel. 🌟🌟👍👍

Thx...glad u enjoyed this first time out at Wawa in the Spring. And yes, I'll have a major project to unveil in a month or so. I'll just say it has a 45" span. 🙂 Covering her now and hoping for tall grass thru the initial trim sessions.

So to be clear you measured a 30 inch long section of rubber, tied it, looped it to 16” then did 2000 turns? After lube and stretching I can’t get jack for duration on my flights as the band builds too much pressure and starts crippling the structure. Its thin rubber too. If I braid my rubber at 30” looped I still run into the issue of not being able to get but 200 turns or a 12 sec high power flight.
@maxfliart
@maxfliart Год назад
No, it's a loop that is 30" long, or a 60" strand that is tied...making a 30" loop.

Does that wing have any dihedral at all?? I'm designing a delta wing canard pusher and debating to add any fines ram or not. Thanks!! Great looking bird 😎

What does "indoor prop" mean?; and why the motor difference between indoors and outdoors?
@maxfliart
@maxfliart Год назад
Indoor props are generally lighter / thinner since the torque loads are less than that used for outdoor. It's all about going as light as possible for indoor flying. With a limited ceiling, u might use a motor that will handle many more winds, allowing it to cruise near the top of the room. Outdoors of course, the sky has no limits, so u can use a thicker motor, to rocket the ship as high as u dare, which could then use a stiffer prop to handle the torque load.
@56Seeker
@56Seeker Год назад
@@maxfliart Thanks, that does make sense.
@PETERKAITERIS
@PETERKAITERIS Год назад
An indoor prop has a very high pitch. Indoor motors are usually thinner and longer than outdoor motors for more lower torque turns because altitude is limited. indoors
