I watch garage sales, go on the last day for great discounts or wait to see what they put to the curb after the sale. A lot of people don't want to pack up the stuff they didn't want in the first place.

My elderly neighbor passed away recently and her children hired a dumpster and threw out everything from her house 😥instead of donating or selling the stuff - so wasteful

This is happening more and more, it breaks our hearts. Someone recently had a free garage sale. We think they were cleaning out a parents house and gave everything away for free = awesome!

I'm in rural Australia. People will list things for free on Facebook marketplace but they tend to sit for quite a while. Things move much faster when just placed on the footpath with a sign marked FREE. We've taken stuff and given stuff this way. We're coming out of winter so not much has been left in front of houses but in the next few weeks we'll start seeing more. I currently have a little stash I'm taking out to the footpath, once it stops raining.

Hello Phoenix neighbors, this was so helpful, thank you! I just downloaded the free stuff app you mentioned, and I found Offer Up about 3 months ago and love it! I also wanted to say I have two of your wonderful books and you have helped me shop MUCH smarter at the grocery store. One tip I remember from one of your books has stuck with me, which was to always hit up local thrift stores when you travel somewhere; great idea! In the UK, the general rule is if something is left outside the house on the wall or in the street, that is an invite to take it. If it is in the front garden, most people would not touch it. We do have free cycle website, too.

This only works if you live in bigger cities. In smaller ones, you r lucky if you see the post before its taken.
