My mom had me when she was 16, my dad was 17. My dad graduated from high school a year early and dropped out of college to work full time to support a family and my mom blames me for her failing out of high school and not having a life. I've dealt with them blaming me for their lives turning out the way it has my entire life. They've done irreparable damage to me emotionally, especially my mother. every time she got frustrated with me, since I can remember, even as a child she would tell me she wish she had an abortion. I'm 37. Into this day my parents act like I owe them everything. They made that life of choices and they can't pay their bills they call me and expect me to pay their bills expect me to give the money buy their food ECT. Because of them and the way they raised me I chose not to ever have children because I don't want to pass on the poor parenting skills that I would have learned from them on to another person. Is not an easy life and I don't wish it upon anybody these kids are selfish and their parents who let them have these children are incredibly arrogant. I have lived a lifetime of guilt and feeling like I should have never been born. No one should suffer through that. And I'm not saying all teen parents are like that but I have other friends that have very similar experiences.

My mom may not have taken the right approach in teaching me about sex and reproduction, but she showed me documentaries and movies about teen pregnancy and how it affected their lives. It taught me to wait to have sex until I was in college and then I knew all the safety precautions and about my cycle and fertility to do it responsibly. My high school boyfriend wanted to have a baby (he was a foreign exchange student) and I knew to say NO and tell him I wasn’t ready for sex or kids. And he goes back to his country every summer and would be graduating ahead of me. Who would help me the baby? Teach critical thinking.

I'm an 18 year old girl and I would always get scared hearing about this kind of thing during high school. My friend ended up pregnant at 17 due to contraceptive failure, thankfully her family were there to support and 14 years later, she is still with the same guy, the kid is doing well and the guy to his credit really did step up and work his arse off. However both of them said that if they could rewind time, they would have waited until much later and that their situation is very much an exception to the rule, they were more than lucky to have the support available to them at the time.

I grew up with my parents always fighting, at one point they literally had a knife fight. That was probably the worst day of my life. All this to say, I notice myself subconsciously copying their aggressive behaviors and mannerisms. My education in psychology and especially through viewing your channel it has become much easier to accept the fact that we emulate our parents, whether we want to or not. And now with this perspective it becomes so much easier to correct these behaviors, while at the same time forgiving them and understanding that they most likely didn't know any better. Making a child and raising him doesn't mean he owes you anything. You decided to put him into this world, it was all you, not him. Raising him is the bare minimum that a mother has to do. Your kids don't owe you anything, you owe them a proper childhood and support.

As an argentinian I can say that this is a serious problem here, Im 17 and im on the last year of highschool (highschool last 6 years here) and i have seen bunch of female students turn into single mothers at ages 14-20, most of them dont really take care of their sons and treats them more like pets than actual human beings. Oh, and the fathers are usually older guys (ages 21-27) that obviously disapears as soon as the girl gets pregnant. We will have a whole generation ruined because of this problem, bunch of kids with abusive and irresponsible teenage mothers that are not capable of put their life in place, and get decide to give birth multiple sons before finishing highschool. Every time one of my classmates got pregnant we haved a small celebration for the announcement, and i always said at those "Theres nothing to be proud of happy about this, none of the parents are mature enought to have a baby, and so, the life of that kid will be a torture" I got into serious confrontations for saying that, even one of the male fathers tried to beat me up one time, the funny thing is that now his girlfriend is a single mother of 2 and no one knows where the father is.

My cousin was a feminist that used to tell her father that tried to have "The talk" with her you usual bullshit, "My body my choice, blah blah blah autonomy, you can't tell me what to do" . So he sat her down and told her that yes he can't tell her what to do with her body. But understand that if she wants to act like an adult, he will treat her like one. So when she got knocked up and wanted to bring her swollen belly home, he told her that he respects her decision as an adult and now he respects her so much as a responsible adult, he will be charging her rent, she will have to pay for her and her kid's own upkeep, and if the child disturbs the function of the household, she will have one month notice to vacate the premises. Because he is also an adult and respects her decisions as an adult, she should respect him as an adult as well and not throw any added responsibilities on him that he did not take on. She actually was expecting him to fund her mistake. He said he brought two kids in the world and he would take care of them and no one else cus no one helped him and his wife raise their kids. Needless to say that that cousin is now a bum single mother of 2 on welfare. Her younger sister is now 27, a doctor (paediatrician), married as a virgin bride, balances her job and is a great housekeeper, feminine, mother of one son, overall a great catch if i do say so myself. She said she learned to be a top notch woman because of her father's sternness. She knows that if she screws up she'd end up a wreck like her sister. She is grateful that her dad proved he won't be a safety net if she decided to stray away from what he taught her and gets knocked up; otherwise she'd never be where she is today. Lesson is simple, you can't always be responsible for the bullshit your kids do, sometimes you teach them well but society tells them it is okay to do whatever the hell they want. Hold firm in your resolve and do not tolerate disrespect and rebellion and let them feel the full consequences of their actions. Helping them means that you permitted their choices. In my uncle's case, he failed with one daughter, but the same upbringing brought up another fine lady.
