Been listening to the podcast for 5 years. Never commented or interacted with you guys. Love all the knowledge you guys provide for free. I still remember when Adam brought the idea to introduce the podcast with a summary of what you guys were going to talk about. Sal was disagreeing saying it will interrupt the flow of the conversation. Now it’s one of the best thing you guys have done. Many things changed with the podcasts for the better. I still wonder to this day if Adam gave the new car he promised to Sal for making the shot when they were playing basketball. Hopefully you guys bring the topic back.

This is a helpful episode for younger enlisted military personnel as well (in addition to young college students as you mention). While having little income and limited options on base for meals, fitness enthusiasts interested in bodybuilding often times seek purchasing their own groceries in order to have more options and control of food available. If not purchasing groceries aside from the food offered on base, then this is also helpful in guiding on how to pick and prioritize food offered.

I’m 21 years old, 6’6 and 230 lbs. 1 year ago I was 190 with absolutely no strength or muscle. I was addicted to vaping and smoking weed and was not eating many calories at all. Just pizza and corn dogs. Made some massive changes to my life and switched out all my bad habits with new good habits and began taking fitness and health seriously. I’m now blown away at the progress over 1 year and I am super happy with my progress. Just started a deficit to shred some fat. Thank you guys for all your hard work and what you’ve done in helping my journey to a healthy lifestyle! ❤️‍🔥❤️‍🔥

I’m 20 years old, since I was in grammar school I would make up unhealthy diets for myself. Nothing ever changed. Before prom I decided to go on the keto diet. I lost 40 lbs so quick and my body of course lost its muscle too. Before quarantine I decided to start weight lifting. Two weeks into my training, lockdown happened and I decided to learn all about weight lifting and nutrition during that time. Now I am happy to say that I am done listening to influencers and only listen to you guys only 24/7. I’m always encouraging my friends to weight train and eat healthy. I am inspiring to be neurologist and personal trainer. I love you guys!

Weight training has been a saving grace for me and makes all areas of life better! I've had to employ several of these budget-friendly tips over the years, but it is so true: this way of shopping/eating applies ALWAYS... Even picked up a couple new ideas listening today. This is such an important episode. I started lifting weights on a consistent basis last May during the first lockdown here in the U.K. after my wife took a photo of me with my daughters and I hated how big I had become. I weighed in at 262lbs back then and through weightlifting and working on my nutrition I’ve come to 229lbs today. I cannot stress how helpful not only bulk buying but bulk cooking has been to my situation. I buy all my ground meat (turkey/chicken/beef) and cook them all on the same day so when it comes to my meals through the week the only cooking I need to do is the veg and boiling some rice. With two young daughters the main obstacle to healthy eating is the time taken to cook a meal, prepping before hand saves so much time and I’ve got half the meal ready (the meat) before I even start. Thank you for another informative episode guys. I subscribed last week after you were recommended in my feed. Nice to see guys giving honest advice designed to help everyone, not just the advanced lifters.

Such a good video, and so relevant for all the students and young people looking to get in shape! This is something I could have certainly used when I was going through university... I found myself spending way too much money trying to get the cleanest and best sources of protein and best facilities, but would barely make it to my next pay check. It isnt about what you have, rather what you can do with it! Really wish this could get played for all graduating high schoolers in their gym classes so they get set with knowledge and how to attack the world when they move out!

What Adam discussed about the bad programing totally summed up what I went through the last year. I went from working out 4-5 times a week and saw some improvements and GAINS (in a bro voice) at the outset but only to plateau after a few months. Changing splits wouldn't do it and I thought I was eating enough calories to make up for the amount I was burning. But then life would happen and I would workout only 2-3 times a week and still eating the same and my body responded tremendously. I would get stronger and just feel all around better with more energy and less fatigue only after reducing the workout frequency while maintaining the same calorie intake. It didn't make sense at the time that working out less would produce better results but I think what Adam discussed totally hit the nail on the head. Great stuff from all of you and I appreciate all the great information you guys put out every single day.
@derrickhubbard7366

I enjoyed the discussion in this episode. For me. the preparation and foresight to prepare is a bigger hurdle than the cost. Often, convenient food is "junk" food. Moreover, a lot of healthy food spoils without a fridge or an lunch box. I am a high school teacher who often has extra curricular school activities after school. To be successful with my diet, I must scout and schedule fridges, microwaves, and lunch boxes. I have prioritized my diet and been able to maintain my diet no matter the schedule, but I must admit it is not always easy. I assume many college kids are in the same boat.

-Track to see how much calories you need to maintain weight, then alter from there. -Find your sweet spot for fat and protein, about 1-1.5 g of fat per kg of bosyweight and 1.7-2 g of protein per kg of bodyweight. -Then fill the rest with carbs (potatoes have alot of potassium)

Another great tip to get jacked on a budget is to use general shopping tips like utilizing discounts on soon to be expiring food. For example: A local discounter puts a discount of 50% on fresh meat, vegetables and cheeses that would expire in 1-2 days every evening past 7pm, so i changed my shopping habits to always grab these discounts and eat 3k+ calories for like 6€-7€ a day with atleast 140 grams of protein intake. (It also offers variety as the same stuff isn't always on a discount) It may not be the highest quality, but it is still a cheap way to eat decently clean

Nowadays you can buy 1lb of lean beef for less than $5. A big mac is $6 now. Fast food is wayyy over priced for convienece. 3.99 a lb of chicken wings at a store...$12 at a bar! If you have a place to cook, you can optimize your diet. If your budget is tighter. Look at on sale beef in your local store, even cheaper! 5lb of rice for $5 which equates to like 60 cups of cooked rice.

Wonder if it would worth it to do a hybrid split...like a PPL/full body split. Maybe MAPs Split can help with that query 🤔

I think I did pretty good in college with eating on a budget not even trying to. Like it wasn't with the intention of eating healthy it was more what was easy. Sunday I would cook up a bunch of rice black beans and I would switch between ground beef and chicken for protein. I wouldnt split them up in to individual containers that way if i was a little hungry one day i could eat a little more or the other way around. I would also by some type of salad and always get little sweet peppers. My bill for food would be around $50 ever two weeks. I wanted to punch a friend in the face one time when he was complaining about a $75 dollar budget his dad gave him every week. But he ate out every day.

Being able to consume a protein shake immediately post morning workout when you skipped breafast is superior to a solid meal.

I work long days, so what I do for lunch at work is I'll get like 30oz of canned tuna, put some Mae Ploy Sweet Chili sauce on it, mix that shit up and stick it in my cooler. That's like 140ish grams protein, deliciousness, quick, easy, cheap... Just like your mom.

People think eating healthy is expensive beacuse of brands that promote gluten free, organic bars, rice cakes, oils, grains, etc.
