Really cool that you let the boy dig the second hole. If that was me at his age, my dad would have gotten frustrated after 10 minutes and just taken over.
....or an entrepreneur, perhaps. If he isn't afraid to trade a little security blanket I like to call just over broke for a truly unlimited earning potential.
I looked for videos like this because I have a project like this coming up. Nice job, nice place and nice family. Your son's determination was most impressive. Good job young man!
Remember working with my dad when I was 9 years old keep that young boy moving make sure he loves to be outside one day he could be a landscape architect
Very nice! BTW, if you have wifi at the gate (from your house) you can add a Wemo Maker (by Belkin) so that you can open the gate from your phone; regardless of whether you're in the house, at the gate or half way around the world. I've done this for mine and works great! You can still keep keypad and/or clicker so that you have multiple means by which to open the gate. Again, looks great!
JLM_Texas.....thanks for the info regarding the wemo maker.....my gate is 20 meters away with no wifi at the gate.....any other option to still use this device? Wired? Also looking for something which provides some sort of video output? Thanks
Great video! Just the kind of setup we need for our country driveway to stop the snoops who ignore the no trespassing signs and security cameras. Definitely a project for this fall. Would it be possible to rent Eli for a couple days? Great kid! You are very blessed!
Yeah a gate is apparently required for people who don't know how to respect others' personal property, which is still mind blowing to me. I have a chain locked between to 4x4 posts as a temporary gate for now until I can set up something more substantial
That kid will grow up to be a fine man. Work ethic of my generation :) Must come from great parenting. I loved the great Dane casually strolling around :)
Not bad! I am looking into fencing in the back yard portion of our property and will be parking the cars behind the house and will need a gate like this. I just wish I could find help like what you had for digging the holes! Unfortunately, not many kids these days are willing to do that kind of thing anymore!
Nicely done ✅. Where did you buy electric line stick for the posts? I guess you don’t listed in the cost? Or did you find it on the side of the road 🤣😎🤙
Nice work I wish you show us how did you installed the might mule motor to see more detail will be grate. Some people they ask for too much money to build gate like that . thank you
this is great, id like to install a similar gate. can you tell me, after time did the hinges on the post warp or sag because of the weight from the gate?
The manufacturer of the opener specifically states not to use wheels of any kind on the gates for some reason. Assuming it is due to undue stress if used on not perfectly level ground.
awesome work. Qs: Can I use this gate OR any other gate from TSC as a sliding / rolling gate (Assuming I need to have rollers on the post and at the leading edge of this gate)?
ruturajp thank you! I believe you can use rollers with the gate, but it would add drag for the actuator. Mine was only rated for a 12ft gate. This one is 16ft and it is still going strong but it is very easy to open and close since it doesn't have rollers adding friction.
I don’t use 16 foot gates on the farm, only 12 foot. There’s too much leverage on the post. Your post will start to lean because there’s too little in the ground also. You won’t be happy with the screw in hinges. The bolt through style with a nut on each side of the post are much better for adjusting the gate.
Home depot and everywhere else had the Mighty Mulr opener at $300 and a round $700 with the rest of the stuff. How are you finding it $62 or even $200??
Mike Ulmer I thought so too but the instructions said to do one under and one over. The reason is to keep from someone being able to loft the gate up off both hinges and remove it.
ive always heard over time these style gates result in dragging and can be an issue. Being this gate is so long and the only thing supporting it is on the one side, has this been the slightest issue and if not do you feel it could be later on?
Great job except the 75% discount on the opener is what's making this look so good. And that discount rarely occurs. Regular price is the cost of this entire project.
