Jesus, my heart goes out to the family. I wonder if it was a cramp when swimming. That’s like my biggest fear, getting a cramp in the ocean. But yeah, always have someone with you. The waters can always change at a drop of a dime.
So this is the thing, if you’re swimming in the ocean and the cramp or side stitch occurs it can cause serious pain. You would think logically that hopefully the stitch would subside. But if the water wasn’t calm and the person panics, I can see where that can turn deadly under the right circumstances. I don’t know, there is always some unknown factor that can occur at any moment. That’s always why you need a buddy with you. Especially with the many stories of someone who goes hiking accidentally slipping or someone drowning over at China Wall. I mean accidents always happen and sometimes we don’t have 100% control of our environment.
Cramp you should still be able to handle and swim in. It's inexperience for doing what they are setting out to do most likely. So many variables can tax your breathe and body and of alone and panic sets in game over. Watch pro surfers or big wave guys they handling all because they are truly properly trained for anything that comes their way...an elite breed of watermen can only say and do that. 🙏🏾

So all these people drying from diving and spear fishing...people wondering why....obviously they in over their heads with the ocean and sadly paying with their lives. Sad but many even born raised Hawaii can't handle the Hawaiian waters and we all need to be hyper aware of our own limits. You can die SO gnarly fast and many do. 💙
When it comes to ethics, spearing a fish is no different than spearing a dog. Since the human body can be healthy without animal flesh, eating animals is unnecessary violence. Why choose to be cruel when you dont have to be? Have empathy. Go vegan ✌️
