Got a message from hire company today and was offered $70 an hour, gross, to be a sparky. That's $254,000AUD per annum before tax. Tax being about $56,000AUD. About even. I think.
Best decision I every made was going into the military. Three degrees, met wifey, family lived overseas, great experiences and friends, with pension and medical for rest of my life for 20 years of service.
@@norval82me as well, I was seriously considering the Navy when I was around 19 years old, could have been sitting pretty with the coast guard highly ranked right now
@@timothyrobertson2352 actually the average citizens of the country do care about service personnel because they are their relatives and loved ones, however, military personnel aren't serving them. They're serving the interests of the wealthy and big corporations - that's who don't give a f about them.
😂 I said that cause dispensary voice ain’t deep enough. But I guess the recruiter gotta make it look good then the drill sergeant comes after to scare you into submission
“Your” retirement pay is nice because of being an O6 but most people never reach that and end up having to work the rest of their lives after the military and never actually retire.
That's called poor financial decisions while being in the military. Even as an E-7 with pention, disability, and TSP (if invested in at the beginning of career) working should be an option. Those 3 alone give most a living wage depending on Savings and other investments. 100% Disability and pension alone the first year is close to $80K a year. Not to mention 911 GI or VA college program will pay you to go to school and give you BAH. Which is another 22K if you go fool time.
I’m a retired Army Infantry Senior NCO and it amazes me how well qualified young people don’t take advantage of being in our military, the pay may not look like much in the beginning but since the Army provides free housing, free food, fill medical and dental benefits, 30 days of paid vacation per year. Only a small amount of our population is qualified to join so if a Recruiter asks you about possibly joining, then you’re one of the fortunate ones. As a retiree, I get a combined net pay of $7,100 a month and I have full medical health insurance for life and that includes my wife and kids.
As a fellow airman,(retired) it was the best decision I made. I made a lof money, lived all over the world, met my wife, retired early, and got a second career.
Thank you for your service. My late husband was a MSGT. He retired in 1995, they didn't pay quite that much then. You're earning it, and it makes me happy that you're getting it. It also makes me happy that I receive my late husband's benefits, because it was important to him. ❤RIP Gene 11/9/39 - 7/23/20❤
@@Jodywithawhy That's so sweet, thank you so much. Yes, the military does transfer the benefits of the deceased Veteran to the spouse. Be blessed and continue to be a beautiful blessing. 🤗
I got 3 degrees because of the military, & my thanks to an old commander for mentoring & getting me into engineering. We still talk atleast monthly after all these years lol!
@@Jodywithawhyforget what those ignorant people are saying, their clearly jealous and probably don’t do much with their lives, anyways I should be shipping out to AF BMT in 6 days, just waiting if my recruiter was able to book a last minute job opening for me!! I’m praying she did bc if not then I’m going to be waiting a while. Im so excited and ready to kill it. Been training for some time and getting fit (was never super unfit but hadn’t worked out in a while) IM READY TO GET THIS 😈😈
How are you on the Navy 13 years and watch this clip and say he doesn’t tell you he’s an E7 ? He clearly stated when the video started he’s rank of master sergeant that is an E7….. sooo??
Every Branch has criteria to make rank but the caveat is.......every branch doesn't offer promotional opportunities in every MOS. Your only going to go as far as positions are available. That's why Recruiting/Retention and other strength management MOS's offer promotion opportunties, everybody can't sale military service and everyone can't do Retention or combat arms.
The military can change lives, i would never not tell someone to avoid the military. The benefit alone can be better than what is out there or where your heading
I’m 23, bounced from job to job but was always a good student and knew I was meant for more. I enlisted in the Air Force and am currently in DEP! My asvab allowed me to choose almost any job I wanted so I went with a Cyber job. Thanks for all the great content!
I made the mistake of going to college. Now all i get is requesfs for donations. Millitary folk get praise and perks for life. Not to shabby for coming in entry level.
$101,000 and take the tax away. You’re left with whatever the amount is after serving 17 years. Respect for serving but not worth it spending your life that way in my opinion.
I joined the Air Force in 1988 and I remember my first paychck as an Airman Basic during boot camp. It was a little over $600 and we all got paid in cash. At the time I thought I was rich, lol. Later that year the Air Force went to Surepay and your monthy pay was electronically deposited in your bank account. How times have changed.
Great video! What a lot of people dont get about military pay are the benefits that come with it like healthcare, paid vacation time, bonus incentives (hazardous locations, foreign language, separated from family, etc), convalescence, and more!
@@Jodywithawhy Ha! True! I think BAH could be better if it was based on house location instead of duty station. I've heard of some people who have higher costs housing areas but get BAH based on the lower housing average near their duty station.
Yep. That happened to me when I recruited in Iowa. The area we chose to live for better school districts, cost about $600 more a month than my BAH. When I made TSgt, it all evened out.
That's all well and good being said by a recruiter. As a single E4 soldier in the barracks I got paid $33k. An 18 year old could look at that and think wow, but it's really not all that great. Free healthcare but you're months out and villianized if you try to use it. Dining Facilities are always packed, food is gone, and prepared horribly. Unless you like raw soggy chicken and powdered eggs. Free housing, but unless you get permission from your leadership (unlikely) or GET MARRIED you're in the barracks. Free sure, but you got mold, it's loud, heating and AC rarely works, power goes out, fire alarms randomly, rust in the tub. Call DPW when the AC goes out in a Texas summer, that is a "priority 1" and they'll be out in 4-7 days. My room one time was 96 for 6 days before they showed up and didn't have the part. 4 more days later they showed back up. This is Army experience and I've heard the Air Force is better, but for single troops the pay is the same all the way around the DOD. AKA new E-1s get the same pay in all branches, which is I think somewhere around $22k.
Dang…. I went thru similar circumstances, but only until my company’s new barracks were finished being built. After that, it was like living at the Marriott!😂 Some ppl forget, they gotta “kiss ass till they can kick ass!” Pay your dues softazz whineyazz cry babies!!!
I was a Corpsman and for the amount of hours I was working ...I was making less than minimum wage. I got out and started my own business and make more in one month than I use to make in an entire year. But Ive owned my business for 24 years now.
The USMC is the same as the Army with one minor difference. The arrogance in the penis club is at an all-time high. Every Marine a rifleman? Maybe. Every marine a narcissist? More likely. Lol
High school kids with couple of Comptia Certifications make double of that now with free tickets to travel around (first class) hotel and allowance with stock options… anyway thanks us for our service 🙏🏾
The people whining 100k isn’t that much while the average American is making 60k and would be fired for being as unproductive as the military. Also huge bloated retirement pay not shown in these figures.
I hear you, I maxed out in 2012 before I retired as an E8, 30 yrs service in 2012. Base Pay, BAS, BAH, Clothing Allowance, Special Duty Pay, Overseas Pay, Imminent Danger Pay as a Career Counselor in S. Korea, maxed out at 90k. Been retired 12yrs with Retired Pay, Disability and Social Security, 2023 I earned over 70K sitting on Fort Porch.
I remember making about 9,200 a year forward deployed in combat. I was a E-1 20 years ago. Also, I had to pay taxes on that along with paying for my own meals/uniforms.
Just wanted to thank you man! You've helped a lot on my journey towards joining the Air Force. I'm still working towards that journey since I have to get my GED and work out a medical waiver but I'm not giving up and I'm gonna keep pushing. Funny thing. Apparently my Recruiter has worked with you in the past, recruiter down in North Carolina in the triangle area, funny how small the world is.
Im a military Chief Warrant Officer and I concur. The only thing I would add is that the additional entitlements are not taxed. So for example your housing 2K a month is straight pay
I retired as E-7 in 2004 but let’s share some truth, $2000 for housing depending where you live with family you will come up short soon subtract out off base pay. BÂS is for food, now we all know single guy spends about $600 in a month eating out. A family of 3 runs about $800+ groceries. So subtract that from base pay. Clothing allowance, is $490 for the year not monthly so we know spending on laundry and dry cleaning or buying new uniforms is way more than $490, so subtract from base pay. Now taxes was not taken out of base pay so you have to consider 32% in taxes which is $1600 which leaves $3,600 without taking away the shortfall from housing, clothing and food. We can go further subtracting cost like, car note, fuel, utilities, clothes multiple by 2 cause most at his age is married or have kids. Let’s say at the end of the day he work long hours, deployments, remote tours away from family and the worst of all putting your life on the line for wars or conflicts. It’s a job but it’s not all roses.
The AF was fun, did 4 years, got the VA loan, an education and it’s always good, some 30 plus years later, knowing I served. I liked the military but wanted to do other things after my 4 year stint. Great video!
hey jody its been 2 years since I was watching your videos beecause I want to join. its crazy to think ive been 1 year in and station at travis. really appreciate all your videos it helped me alot. after basic, and tech life has been so much better I wish I was making that much but yeah gotta start somewhere and the benefits are amazing. I love it
ONLY ENLISTED get ALL THAT!! I was enlisted and retired an Officer. Who keeps staying in enlisted when O pay is at 2X that for 17 years, 04>17= 182,000 . Go figure man!!! Do both, stay enlisted for 4 years, then commissioned.
I make 120k/year and only work a 48/36 in a two week period with 7 straight days off (Canadian Shift) every month. That's with no overtime. My 401k was fully vested 5 years in, and is currently at $400,000. I'm good my brother. I'll stay right where I am. 💯✌🏾
Great job! Yes if you go in, do your 20 and work on rank. Getting rank is not easy, but well worth it. Like any job you work on upward mobility and the pay comes with it.
You also don’t pay taxes on a lot of that income. I was in the Air Force a long time ago and made maybe 10% of what you are making. You deserve all you can get.
Sir, first off I want to say thank you for your service ❤️ 🇺🇸 🙏… It still boggles my mind that professional athletes earn what they earn, and our soldiers earn a pittance of that to put their lives on the line for the country and it’s citizens who take that for granted.
Military should not have to pay fed taxes. All of the allowances are considered non-taxable income but the base salary is. Also BIH varies depending on the city are in
Unrelated question. So the Air Force is allowing people up to 42 years old to join. Are people that age going to have to live with 19 and 20 year olds not just during BMT, but tech school and the dorms after?
