Wouldn't the model just be a pile of armor, weapons, and ashes if it was under the midday sun? Or does the light of Hysh not do that? It would explain all the undead everywhere. Hmmm. She looks phenomenal! I had that paint set for around 15 years before I tossed it because it was dried out. Now I’m kicking myself! I also tossed my original Reaped Pro-Paints, which were also in pots. Those were probably my favorite paints ever, and I’m truly bummed I got rid of them now. I miss those old Citadel colors, and you perfectly illustrated why they were so amazing. Good job!

I restored a complete set a couple of years ago. My advice is as follows: > Use a ceramic mortar and pestle (steel leaves a residue that can darken mix, stone retains pigment that taints successive batches) > Scrape out using a silicone spatula so no paint is wasted > Use Vallejo Matt Medium to closely match to the original Citadel finish or Liquitex Gloss Medium to closely match the Citadel metallic finish > Pass through 200 micron paint strainers. I used small ones meant for the airbrush cup. > Pour into dropper bottles > Add 8mm hematite beads to serve as agitators. They're the heaviest rust-free, fracture-resistant agitator that can fit through the bottle opening.
@soundgarden8885
@soundgarden8885 10 месяцев назад
Gem of a comment, ill do this! Reading this last night Ive allready tried and succesfully revived 4 paints with a stone mortar we allready had. Only there were indeed some small chunks of pigment left in them, but overall very good results allready. I used vallejo matt medium, including for one Boltgun Metal paint. Will this affect the metal shiny properties you think? I am putting the paint back into their original pots because i just love the look of them. If only there was a way to transfer the paper label of them to put those on dropper bottles maybe, then i will. As for my current citadel paints, about 70, Ive transferred them all into 17 Ak interactive 17ml droppers. Same model as they use for their 3th gen paints. I despise cheap ebay dropper with flimsy thin plastic and caps. Well that said, im off to ordering a ceramic mortar, small strainers and a spatula! Also more matt medium, alongside some gloss medium for the metallic paints! Thanks again!
@hobbyhuman9499
@hobbyhuman9499 3 года назад
I did this with my citadel dry metallics because they all came hard. I used a jigsaw and agitators so I just added some flowaid and medium then set it and forget it for like 5 min. Easy peasy.

So I used this method on about 100 paint pots of mine I found in my old stuff at my parent's house. I was pointed here by a few kindly redditors. It took most of the back to the future trilogy to complete the project but the method works. I have discontinued colors and paints from discontinued lines and even companies now. It was easy and kind of fun and I didn't get paint everywhere. Great paint job

“Irresponsible chemicals” I think I laughed way more at this than I should have.

This was an incredible paint job! Great work! Looks like something you would submit to a competition - kind of showing off your NMM skills.

you meant perpendicular to the light. parallel would be running in the same direction as the light so it would catch only a little more than a plane is shadow.

I wish GW kept making those paints. I liked these ones much more than their new ones in the round pots. The hex pots didn't seal well - as evidenced by the need to revive them. But ahh the contents were so much better! Nice work on reviving "dead" pots!

I've been steadily getting back into the hobby and dug out my old tackle box of mini supplies and found about a dozen dried up pots, an guess its time to revive them after a decade. Might need to color match that midnight blue though, looks about perfect for a long over due project. Wonder if m devlin mud is salvageable

I currently have about 20, all dryer than the mohabi desert. Lets hope this works. I should mention i tried water, regular thinner, flow improver. Nothing really worked. So stupid i never thought of smashing it up first.. I lost dark angels green and bleached bone due to the thinner melting the damn pots!! The agony (( They are nostalgia, best pot design and it look badass. And the lids stayed firmly up! also the smell is mezmerizing.

methylated spirits melts acrylic paint when it's dry. Evaporates out and also mixes with moisture, i.e. water.

could you use a silicone spatula to get the "wasted" paint off the pestal & mortar? so you dont have to waste any of it?

I am still amazed at the fact that my 1991-1994 paints are still in perfect working order, while the 2000's ones are just a brick of solid pigment. thanks for the tips on how to revive them, mate! Happy painting!

You can minimize paint loss in the mortar and pestle with a silicon spatula

I wonder if you can bring back the new pots. I really feel like this old paint was made so much better/different/higher quality pigments.

Nice video man, awesome work. I've found that using a Nonstick Silicone Knife or Nonstick Silicone Spatula of some sort really helps collect all the paint into a nice pile to move after grinding it up in the mortar and pestle. Always got to me also about how much paint I wasted in the end so I found that the Silicone Knife almost completely eliminated that issue. Still a hassle tho never the less, but a worthy one.

Amazingly enough, I still have a few pots of warhammer paint from the 90's (the hex shaped ones with pop-tops) that are STILL usable! Including their old colored metallics.
