Jon is a guy that got into the mini painting hobby later in life, but quickly fell in love! He creates videos that combine two of his favorite things: painting and talking. He doesn't take anything in life too seriously, so why should painting tutorials be any different?
Why am I talking in the third person?

Definitely loincloth and not lioncloth. It's the piece of cloth that covers your loins, as in the parts that you manscape Fruit of your loins in literary sense means your children. Nothing to do with lions, which you don't want anywhere near there. Completely nuts, right? Edit: Best part of the model for me is the skin tone. It hints at a atmospheric lighting effect, as if he's standing near a fire or an explosion. I think that the darker blue tone might've worked really well to tone the shady side. Also that sky blue is beaut.
This was a great video. I love seeing the technique, I love the fact that it was an experiment where you got to do some theory crafting then we got to watch you apply the things you were talking about. I have been prepping to make a serious attempt at faces and this video crammed so much into a short amount of time it was the best video on the subject that I’ve watched so far.
Cool vid. I wish this was about when i painted a few hundred rats in my skaven army. I used white primer, thinned regular paints then washed the whole model with agrax earthshade. The important models got more effort. The overall look was fantastic and it won me best painted in the only tournament I entered
I think another big part of this is that the miniatures almost feel more real if that makes sense? Obviously space marines marines will have a uniform, but for all the other armies where they’re not a tightly organized machine it’s got to be really refreshing if you put a bunch of these on the table. One issue I could see, and a video suggestion, is whether you could make this work on an ork. The other human (or human like) races have the same warm skin colors and even the Tau have a light blue/grey which isn’t difficult given constraints, but how could you work this with orks? Otherwise, awesome video, seen your channel around a bunch but your color cube videos have gotten me to subscribe and I’m looking forward to all your future content!
those croot look suspiciously like Abe from Abe's odyssey, how very dare games workshop attack creators for modelling there versions of games workshop already ripped off Ip.
Have you considered Conquest Last Argument of Kings? We have Tyranid Mechanicus (the spire) Space wolves (Nords) Orks (W'adrhun) Squats (Dweghar) Necrons (old dominion) Imperial guard if the beastmen were more accepted (city states) Imperial guard if they hated the emperor instead (100 kingdoms) The necrons if they enslaved more c'tan (sorcerer kings)
I love that this is unintentionally a collab between two of my favorite art youtubers. Someone tell Sarah Renee Clark that her cubes are getting used for mini painting!
Came here for an easy method and guide on how to paint tyranides and got a complicated video showing just 10% of how to paint and more discussing some "smash chop" that tries to copy slap chop 😂 video didnt help to paint tyranids in the end
The random color scheme is great. The video is entertaining. I like how you advertise for the sponsor of the episode - it is unexpected product and first I thought "ouch, that doesn't match", but then I thought - You're doing great job for the community, and not all of the viewers are giving you a chance to monetize your work (me included - subscribed, liked most of the videos, but nothing more), so you should be able to pick up sponsor you like, whenever it matches the video or your viewers like it, and I should just shut up and watch the damn video in full, because I watch it for free thanks to it! So thank you for picking sponsors so I can watch your great videos and be entertained!
I like the prejudice against dry brushing everywhere, why not use an easy technique to get great results in a shorter time and it works great in greyscale before contrast paint
Yeah, I'll just stick with contrast paints over white. They won't win any competitions, but at least I'll have a prayer of finishing my army list before I die.
Hi, I wanted to ask if it would be okay to use some clips from your videos in a video of my own. I've been wanting to up my painting game for awhile now and I thought it would be fun to document the process, show what tutorials I followed, that sort of thing. Either way, great video!
My god this paint job was brilliant - yeah as you said it leans on rain slicker / fireman but that WORKS. The little touch of your thinned blue glow on the eyes SELLS the heck out of the effect and I enjoyed watching you get it there, what a fun video!
Hot tip for doing contrast paint / washes for detail work. Use a low quality scholastic" grade sable brush. They hold a lot of liquid and do not let go of it fast so they do not flood the surface with more paint than you want. the bristles have basically zero spring or snap which in every other use makes them not a good choice but with washes and contrast paint I find actually useful.
These seem really useful, but so far it seems like it’s better for one off models. It’d be interesting to see you take a card and use it to paint a group of models. An entire 40K or AOS army is too much, but an army from a skirmish game (kill team, war cry, etc) would be interesting
