First, he's 17. Second, it's an impressive speed and power but also a good example of why placement and spin is more important than raw flat power.

@@bogzyolsson2061 I was just correcting the title that said he was 18. And being 17 he has room to grow and get even stronger but he may want to focus more on better placement and spin. Roddick went from the hardest server when he was younger and traded MPH for spin and placement and became a much more effective server.

The same for Iga. She’s increased her 1st serve speed quite significantly to around 190 kph but it doesn’t seem to be helping her at all. It’s the placement that’s even more important. Ideally both.

Guys the serve won him the point - he just messed it up after that. 145 anywhere in the box is extremely hard to return with quality, and his opponent did not, in fact, return it well. He lost not because of the serve, but because his approach shot was conservative AND his opponent guessed the right direction AND he then missed the tough volley.

The guy smacked the serve as hard as he could ,didnt really aim for an ace.See thats why big servers are good their serve placement,on the lines with laser focus aim and its still very fast

I mean that looked pretty flippin fast. But 145mph? I'm not so sure. Maybe the conditions were so slow the ball slowed down immediately after the hit.
