I'm a very invested fan of kpop, and i think (in my opinion only) momo's story is the most painfully told. I hate this kind of sufferings from the trainee days of idols, but then you admire them more for that.

@@khotshoott2617 a little bit more than a decade or so DBSK members were asked to not eat anything but water WHILE promoting (as you may know promoting is also a hard work). IU eat 1 sweet potato and water for 3 days before promotions. One of Lady Code's member eat just 1 apple a day, days before their comeback. This horribly and painful storys of extreme dieting by idols bcs company's requirements as happened before, still happens and it will... Is already over a decade and I still no see a change in the industry. I'm still waiting. Till then I just can say to you : welcome to the not so pretty and glamorous side of kpop.
I want people to realize that this is NOT OK and not _supposed_ to be the normal, but sadly is within this industry. This type of dieting can result in the development of eating disorders (anorexia, bulimia, binge eating) and if done for long term can to physical health issues. When you see your favorite artist undergo such harsh diets, please do not praise them for their "strong will" but ask if they are taking care of themselves...
If you think it is 'sad' that it is a part of the industry, do not make idols being super thin something that you prefer. The only reason these standards exist is that fans incentivize them.

It's very weird that they're laughing. I know for some people that's their stress response. But it seems to me they're so used to it that it's only mildly surprising rather than horrifying.
It’s also proven that stressing can make weight loss even harder. I’m not a once, but I felt all the stress that Momo went through when she talked about it.
People usually have the misconception that JYP = the guy responsible for every single aspect of JYP artists whereas in truth, this is not the case. JYP or Jin-young Park (ex-CEO) is just the guy who established the company. He has already mentioned that Twice was being managed by an experimental task force (not him) so he had very little to do with what Twice undergoes pre and post debut. Of course, at the end of the day, he evaluates and gauges the artists under his label but he is not the one going to each member and giving them their schedules and diets. What rich man has time for that lmao?

Wow just wow!! That is not good, it's dangerous to just not eat and go to the gym. Especially with what they do, I really wish these companies would just hire nutritionists for these groups, to ensure that they are eating healthy and correctly. I work out with heavy weights and my caloric intake is about 8 to 9 thousand calories a day, because I do heavy lifting and my metabolism burns fast. These ladies should be eating about 3 to 4 thousand calories a day so that they can maintain their energy levels throughout the day. These agencies need to get it together and really start caring about their groups well being and not just about the dollar signs. What she did is extremely dangerous and should never ever be done period. Be careful ladies I love you very much and do not want to see you come to any harm just because of the stupid pressures that are put on you to look perfect. Michael Ochoa These so called ‘Entertainment Companies’ don’t care about trainees and for some companies they don’t even care for their unpopular artists. Just like how ordinary companies don’t care about interns. Thats just the way it is.
they do they do have nutritionists! A LOT of companies have their own nutritionists! but there are extreme and desperate times when these trainees who have trained years and years to achieve their one dream to debut, and that if they want to debut they have to lose weight, no one can stop these trainees from doing extreme dieting. i would try to understand momo's situation and just be glad that it was a short term diet!
I still remember some painful stories of groups mentioning water fasting and lemon detoxing including Wendy of Red Velvet, Luna of F(x) and old school boy groups like TVXQ to get abs. I also remember where in one video where an interviewer asked the girl group what they ate for a month and it was "one americano a day" for A WHOLE MONTH similar to Exo Xiumin coffee diet. The ugly side of kpop always comes out but at least some idols were honest about it and told the truth instead of "oh we remember to eat healthy and exercise" Yeah sure that's why some of them are fainting on stage,have rib bones and bony thigh gaps showing and have underweight bodies even though just a few months ago they seemed 15 kg heavier T.T I'd rather hear them telling the truth like this.

korea has a culture that supports this kind of thing and is extremely against getting mental help. many idols have tried to speak up about it and are silenced, lose their contracts, or are berated by the media for doing so.
What amazes me about the idol industry is not the standards, it's just the complete lack of training on nutrition. Sports athletes also have to get into very good shape, past the "healthy" range into the "fit" range. But they get specialised coaches and take advice from doctors on what and how to eat. These girls are practicing so many hours in a day, but they make them starve themselves for some arbitrary number on a scale that their manager tells them. I want to see an idol agency hire qualified doctors to help idols stay in shape sustainably with zero risk to their wellbeing.

I’m sorry this isn’t normal. Momo and any of the other girls could have been seriously hurt from that. Korea or the companies or whoever has this unreal standard of skinny needs to understand that people need to eat. It’s a requirement of humans and you simply cannot deny someone their human right. This sort of carry on could have led any of the girls to develop eating disorders or anything thoughts around food. Momo even said herself she was scared she’d gain weight from eating an ice cube. They are my favourite band in the world and make me so happy. Hearing this breaks my heart. When Momo said she was afraid she wouldn’t wake up I cried. When Nayeon mentioned Sana had collapsed, I cried again. This has gone too far and they were only trainees

i remember seeing pre debut/debut photos/videos of momo for the first time. she looked like skin and bones it was very sad to see. i'm so glad that she got better and it didn't become a regular thing.
So sad she had to face these horrible times as a kid.... At that age you're supposed to eat whatever you want because you need food to grow well.... A billion-dollar company can't even afford to give dieticians to their artists? Hell, even small e-sports org have their own dietician and mental health doctors. Why are they letting their artist figure it out on their own in losing weight? There are so much better, safer, and bearable approach to losing weight than just consuming ice
Its really sick that Momo had to do that! And what was the point if later on Momo would regain her original weight again? She even says after she passed she ate like crazy or something along the lines. I wonder if any trainees ever died or was close to death to the point that their parents sued? That can happen but they wouldnt show it...these companys need to think less about making trainees "idols" and more on the being the best versions of themselves as people. The fans love them for who they are not for the "idol" image which isnt attainable in reality.

You should only eat one. You're more likely die then she is from not eating for a week. Pizza is already trash food and your eating a whole box of it in one sitting.
And all you fat ppl eat so much because you eat too quickly, you don't drink water, and you don't chew your food correctly. It takes 45 minutes for your brain to know/feel it's full. You can eat a whole box of pizza and still feel hungry if you eat it too quickly but if you take your time, drink alot of water before you went even get through a whole slice. So fat ppl don't know who to eat, that's why theyre fat.

They don't have to lose that much weight anymore, if they have to lose any at all. Most idols who already debuted are on healthy diets to somewhat keep their weight, or lose some, which depends on how much they weigh at that time.
