184 - First IFR using BeyondATC ! 

Still not 100%, but an amazing progress. Once again, it's authentic to recognize the hurdles and challenges that a flightsimmer always goes through to replicate the flight experience as realistically as possible. Thanks for the insight!

What an absolutely gorgeous sim setup , the image quality you are getting is great.

Someday soon I'm hoping they'll change that boink to some scratchy squawking sound as we are more used to for radio communication.

The voices and accents are pretty good. I agree with that little boink sound though.

I find if I have Beyond ATC open in a separate monitor then I can get a better idea on how it wants me to respond. Not ideal and I'm No expert, but it has done me well so far.

I don't think you made as many mistakes as you thought. What you did wrong: I would have contacted Essendon ground not Melbourne Centre to get your clearance. Don't think you did anything wrong at 04:30, maybe "Affirm" would of more precise to indicate you were ready for descent, but a real world controller would know what you are talking about. QNH is required readback (which is why he's getting upset 05:30), but anything with "expect" is not. At moorabbin the correct taxi call is "moorabbin ground, jae, at alpha 5, request taxi to the apron". Then they will come back with "JAE taxi to the apron" and you can just respond with your callsign. Here are some notes I had about BeyondATC as I'm watching. Needs some work to match Australian conditions. Australian controllers won't say "readback correct", if you got it correct they'll acknowledge with your callsign. We don't have "Radar" controllers in Australia, we have "enroute", Essendon tower will likely hand you off to Melbourne Departures or Approach though. I would expect the Essendon 8 departure, where they assign you a heading (which can be runway heading) The approach/departure controller would of likely asked for your intentions at Moorabbin, eg you could have done a visual approach or a RNP/NDB approach. They won't radar vector you in that zone since you'll be entering into Class G airspace below 2500, so if you did want the visual approach it'd be like "Cleared to leave controlled airspace descending" then "controlled services terminated", they'll still provide a information service. Then when you enter into YMMB if conducting a visual approach it'll be the same as a VFR approach (just different rules around visibility), so they'll likely give you a leg of the circuit to join (in your case probably oblique base runway 17R). At moorabbin (and every class D I been to) they won't tell you which taxiway to vacate on. They definitely won't care about a ramp number for sure since there aren't any at moorabbin :)

Hey mate, Beyond ATC looks interesting but obviously still needs work, I’m sure it’ll improve. I’m interested to see how it handles an IFR flight entirely outside controlled airspace. Are they the standard voices or have you paid the extra for the fancy ones? Also, just as a tip, you don’t need to say Victor Hotel, just Juliet Alpa Echo. Enjoy what’s left of the weekend!
