That mullein is still too wet to smoke smoothly. Try putting it in a paper bag for a week or more. It also needs to be shredded or crispy dry and rubbed out in small pieces like tobacco in order to stay lit. It does burn fast. I have found it helpful for clearing mucus in the lungs and relaxing the throat. Properly prepared and packed it can be an enjoyable smoke also. Especially with a bit of wild mint added. Cool pipes
Thanks for the info. I like to keep it in the original leaf form because shredding it causes the small pieces to ride up the stem and get into my mouth when I puff on the pipe.
True Kinnikkinnik is made from the inner bark, ( not the outer) of the Red Osier bush, Dogwood), mixed with, either plug tobacco and ground up, or, with Bearberry leaves and mixed together and dried out.Smoking just Red Osiers inner bark, was used as a substitute for tobacco amonst some native people. It is a mild, and sweet taste to it. But, smoking too much of it can lead to stupefaction. Also, Red Osier inner bark, when scraped off the branch, and placed in the mouth raw, will cure your toothaches within 20 minutes, as well as for headaches. You see, Red Osiers active ingredient is Salicylic acid. Something that is found in common Aspirins. Just a small FYI from a part native from the Boreal Forest in Ontario....
Smoking mullen here in the WV mountains is said to help with bronchitis, asthma, and supposed to be a good expectorant to loosen up phlegm and mucus. It is a biannual, only blooming every other year.
I've noticed mulleine is hard to find this year and also last year. Before that it was everywhere. Lucky I have a bunch dried. Smoked it once to get rid of COVID cough
Here in the Northern Cali Sierras, this is a native tobacco called "chalupa" that is smoked in sweatlodge ceremonies. When I would sweat with the Miwok Indians, they always had it. I think we would toot on the end of the second round with the door open. It is a medicine. We also called Mullein "Fire Weed" as it is the first thing to grow after a forest fire. I can personally attest to this fact having my home and lands burned in the Caldor Fire of 2021. The property is covered with nothing but Mullein. Now the small pines are starting to grow....

Smoking mullein in homemade bowl pipes sounds so old-school cool! I’ve been using nutraharmony mullein drops for my lungs, and they’ve really helped clear things up. It’s amazing how versatile this plant is, whether you smoke it or use it in the form of supplements.
I use Mullein shafts for atl atl spears and it’s a great material for that! But, this means I have to scrape the shafts clean, grease them and straighten them. Eventhough I try to do this outside in a strong wind, by the time I’m through I’m running like a faucet out of nose mouth and eyes!!! I may have some level of allergy ( I’m not prone to allergic reactions) but this is the medicinal effect they describe. I expect that my scraping operation would be the equivalent of mullein snuff!😳 I’m surprised you can smoke it with so little effect. 😅
its a good bronchodilator and expectorant. I use mullein daily but I like to add about 10% mint for my smoke, it smooths it out real nice. If you inhale and hold like say an inhaler I notice the above mentioned with a slight relax. mullein saved me brother. thanks for the video. oh yes it's a bear to keep lit haha steam pot inhale is what i tell a lot of folks to use for tight congestion
You have some wild grape vines behind you, You can cut the vine and smoke it like a cigar, Just cut off the joints and smoke the thick/stem. They are best when they are dry.
Use a salad spinner to dry. a food processor to desired cut. Put in a brown poke. Let dry. Add a herb for flavor. Mints, Catnip in the evening. Or molasses.(just don't stump your toe with it) very small amount. My wife has it everywhere. She makes a police and elixir with it...
Reminds me of when I was 8, I soaked dried dock flowers in some kind of unknownberry juice, dried it back out, then smoked it in hollow honeysuckle sticks 😂 WTF. Amazing I made it.

You should try smoking mugwort if you have it in your area. Although i should warn you that it has some psychoactive properties especially if you inhale it. You should mix it with the kinickinic. The Cherokee in North Carolina had a mixture of 8-12 herbs and barks in their kinickinic. I bought some and it was pretty good.
Lovely pipes! Just made a nice smoking blend of mullein, mugwort, catnip, and a bit of lemon balm. It smells wonderful when combined together, very invigorating and almost like a mild menthol or wintergreen. Has a soothing and numbing effect in the chest, throat, nose and even your lips. Sprinkle a bit of ground weed in with it makes for a nice spliff along with chamomile tea, very relaxing 😀
Ive smoked mullein a few times to help clear a bad head cold. That hot smoke will definitely make you hack up whatever is plugging you up 😂 I now prefer to make a tea with it, sweetened with real honey to help the medicinal properties

It's hard to judge how dry iy should be to smoke, because you want it pliable but yet dry. If it gets too dry it develops a harsher flavor. I use a marijanna grinder to cut it up. this causes it to burn more uniformly.
Yes, I made the stems. The river cane stem was easy. You just drill out the node with a 1/8" drill bit. On the mesquite pipe, the stem is 2 groved pieces glued together, wrapped with string, and bent to shape while the glue is still wet (edit: I might have bent it prior to gluing up, now that i think about it). I used a damp pipe cleaner to remove the excess glue from the inside of the stem while the glue was still wet. I forgot what type of glue I used, but I think it was hide glue or fish glue.
Best to drink this as a tea strained with honey . If you decide to smoke it it’s best to suck from the pipe into the mouth and let it cool before inhaling 😊
Yeah,but I still take mullein. As a singer,there is a difference. Mullein could prevent or save someone from pneumonia or other lung related issues. As well,the more mullein I take,the easier it is for me to sing.
Well i ironically just picked some mullein today before it was too late and gone and i just grabbed my phone hit youtube and this is one of the first bmvideos that pulled up. I too smoke weed and get stupid so i cant directly recall which one it was. Just wanted to throw that in there being as tho its relevance as well as the mullein! So in my opinion these arent coincidences they are algorithms from the phones tracking our every move listening to every word and ttackjng even our emotions.. Just saying!! Patrick, do you know about usung mullein seeds as a means to catch fish? Some chemical in the seeds has the ability to stun fish but this is also supposed to be illegal to do.
My old lady stopped smoking tobacco on Mother's day due to COPD like symptoms and low oxygen levels. She replaced the tobacco with Mullein and is back to normal on he oxygen levels. Sometimes the smell is like bacon and other time like fresh corn on the cob
Interesting. There must be thousands of blends of different plants to try. Infinite experimentation opportunities. I've read about mulberry leaves, cabbage etc. I've tried scullcap, lavender homegrown tobacco and other less legal plants. Surprising how they tasted very different from what I'd expected. Tea is another one. Just plain black tea leaves. Tastes pretty good imo.
Have you tried smoking sacred tobacco (Nicotiana rustica)? I don’t use tobacco but bought some seeds to try and grow next season. I know that various native tribes made blends of the tobacco and other plants, but it wasn’t smoked recreationally (at least from what I have read online).
this isn't how you smoke any plant matter. you must process it properly first. you cleaned it a bit, which is important for mullien at you mentioned, but you did not dry it or cure it at all. give it a proper dry and cure and then give it a shot. i never smoked mullien but i know for a fact it will be way different and way better then what you are doing here.... whatever is happening here. it reminds you of lettuce because it is fresh and green.
I wonder if it's legal to put some of that in the auction😁, I like to smoke but I inhale my stuff(doctor's orders), but I'm seriously thinking of trying it because of the possible phlegm removal
It’s also spread throughout the lower 48. If you learn to identify it you will start to recognize it along the road. I wouldn’t recommend smoking anything from the ditch, but it is easy to get a hold of the coneflower after it has gone to seed, and propagate your own. It is said that this is better for you to smoke than to not smoke at all. due to its medicinal uses. Once you finally get a hold of a coneflower don’t bother with trying to find the seed just break it up very finally with your hands over some soil. You don’t want to cover it very much at all as the seeds are small this plant grows into stages and its form which is its most potent and the second year it will produce the flower.
another name for it is==soapworth which you can lather up tyhe leaves and wash with them....not only that the seed heads will cause fish to be stunned and come to top of water thats why its against the law to use them.
