My Dad shot a lot of Iowa fox in the 40s with a Remington model 25 pump in 32-20. He would have been 101 next month. He got the rifle when he was 18. And I still have it. I need to get it out and do some loading for it. He always shot Remington 100 grain soft points. I have a Colt Official Police in 32-20 also.
I've run over 10,000 cast lead 265 grain handloads at 1250 fps through my .44 Magnum Uberti '73 without any issues. The head space, toggle links and pins are still as tight as they were when new. There's a lot of scaremongering about 1873 toggle link actions with many saying they'll blow up with anything more than cowboy loads. They pass proof, if they didn't Uberti wouldn't chamber them in 357 and 44 magnum. Even so, I stay clear of hot loads.
The buzz on 73s being weak refers to the originals, not the Ubertis. Besides the stronger metallurgy, they did a tweak on the toggle parts that increased the strength.
Been thanking. One of them 3220s would make a great all purpose rifle. Wuss loads fer squirrels and such heavier loads fer deer and bigger varmints. Come to think of it. That's just what our ancestors used it for back then. I gotta get me one of them! Thanks so much for your great videos and please keep them coming.
My grandfather had a 1894 in 32 win centerfire. Basically an 8mm version of the 30-30. Unfortunately the old fool shot .30-30 out of it when 32 was discontinued for a few decades.. ruining the barrel . Smh... Don't get another gun or anything pops ... Smh .
@@Leverguns50 thank you for your response and for the video. Now you've really got me thinking about an 1873 w/short stroke kit. .32-20 and .25-20 are my two favorite calibers. God bless
My rossi 92 is chambered in 45 colt and I shot a tom lion out of a tree with a grizzly 265 gr wfngc and that cat wasn't moving now for you bleeding hearts I'm sorry I would never ever shoot or kill a animal just to get recognition lions are beautiful creatures !! But they are predators a predator who had been targeting my stock and killing stock indiscriminately after a few mornings with no eggs because my chickens are dead we tend to get a little cranky when a predator kills your stock and you don't do something about it it's gonna be back it may be a a week may be 2 but it's gonna come back until there's nothing left to take or you do something about it politicians are the same way with rights but I digress that is a awesome gun alott more history and character to my rossi Henry's are great though!! You just can't beat the action on a Henry
Goodness. That's how you make a lever gun sing! lol. The gel test is very telling. I would imagine the 44-40 would be the way to go, in modern cartridges I would go 44 magnum since you would get that expansion in the first block of gel. Great video and great shootin, sir! God Bless! Best lever gun movie ever! Winchester '73 (1950) - ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-O64gcrPcnig.html&ab_channel=MastikhoorShinchan%21
If you notice that coin was shot with a 34 caliber bullet, the stunt man was behind Jimmy Stewart on the milk crate and when the coin was thrown up, he really shot it out of the air using an 71 Winchester, and 348 caliber
@@Leverguns50 Thanks for that bit of movie trivia. Now I will have to go back and watch for it.😎 If you have any other lever gun movie suggestions, I am all ears.
I've seen SASS guys firing this '73 and they're so fast they have nearly half a magazine worth of spent brass airborne during firing. Hahaha Don't you just love all the number soup they had in the late 1800's in cartridge names? It's really not changed. The only logic in most of it is that people need to have a good memorization technique to remember cartridges. I reference two Wikipedia pages constantly, and after a while the stuff just lodges in the brain. Please stop trying to compare these iconic fire arms/ ammunition of a century ago with today's modern extremely high powered ballistics... those guns were the assault rifles of their day...!! So due respect required.
Thank you, but what about all the GenZ that never even heard of those guns. You got a compare to something that they do know about., not trying to be politically correct or anything just trying to help out the younger generation,
