Bought a 45-70 C Sharps off gunbroker for a low price a few years ago. Beautiful gun, but couldn't hit a barn with 405 grain bullets; probably why the low price. Living not far from the factory in Big Timber; I asked them what could be the problem. One of the staff looked up my serial number & it turned out to be an early one with lots of freebore (I measured 3/8th of an inch!). I loaded up some long paper patched 550 grain bullets set 3/8" farther out of the cartridge. That did the trick! A real track driver now. Very satisfying to hit the bucket @ 400 yds and the buffalo @ 800 yds at the Quigley match!

Yes but some brass is worth more then others, most pistol ammunition is not worth the time where as something like 45-70 is worth a good chunk even if he just sells it on eBay to someone who reloads. Not that I think he would ebay it, more likly he's got friends that could use that brass.

Same here, Sister's boyfriend started me shooting a Winchester (wish I could remember what model ) single shot 22 one summer I stayed with them on their farm, started shooting at a beer can at about 30 feet and the next day it would be at 35 next 40 then 50. By the time summer was ending i was shooting 25 yards to 100 yards and had learned how to adjust myself to hit each different target with open sights. Later it came in handy squirrel and deer hunting, Army rifle qualifications and just plain fun target shooting.

I love that sharps rifle it's one of my bucket list rifles to own so that I can one day pass it down to my boys when they get older also octagonal barrels because chitting corners don't make sense

The problem with the 405gn bullet hitting the steel is sometimes the target fall so fast its hard to see where it hit!

Let's see a Ruger no. 1 chambered in 7mm Remington mag,at the long range. I have always been partial to the no. 1. They are very accurate and fun to shoot. By the way, no limits on pigs , as they are an invasive species, not native to America. . The Sharps is a beautiful weapon. God bless you and your loved ones

Shiloh and C. Sharps make the best 1874 replicas. I like the C. Sharps better because the receiver is milled whereas the Shiloh is investment cast.

I just watched a video about Civil War civilian sniper, Jack Henson, who would pick off Union soldiers at up to 600 yards with his custom modified flintlock to caplock muzzle loading rifle. I think Hickock is channeling ol’ Jack!

Yes. Slow cook them on extreme high heat. When those critters get molten they will be tender enough to eat but don't let them cool down to much. 😉

That' a very nice rifle, I'm totally unfamiliar with it though. I remember seeing Sharps rifles with a falling/rising block that cuts into a paper cartridge, but not a model that uses brass cartridges.

The Gong on this range is 80 yds. The pigs in front around 45 yds. The gong distance on his other range is much further.

I'll try to remember to do that in the next video where I shoot it. It's pretty heavy, and I think it's a 28" barrel. I'll weigh it and measure it.
