I want to thank you for this format of editing your video. The format of cutting to you every time you have an extra comment on something that you just mentioned was distracting and jarring. This intro-outro editing is more conducive to learning the information that you're relating. Thank you.

@@piotrkuczynski2479 Been using PS since version 2 in 1992, and not only did I not know a couple of these, but I'd actually forgotten a couple of others, or had always wondered what the actual use of them was. I'd seen the black and white adjustment layer trick done in a tutorial en passant, but the guy'd gone on without explaining it, and just as I was starting to imagine the possibilities, I got distracted by the next step and forgot about it until just now. Every once in a while I'd see the Black and White option in the adjustment layers list, think "hey, there were color sliders in there, I think I wanted to mess with those", and then go on to whatever I was doing and forget yet again.

You're giving away some stuff. The "Normal" blend mode on a layer group thing was introduced as long ago as version FIVE or SIX of photoshop 2000 (21 years ago). Believe me very few people in "professional retouching" knew about this. They were doing all kinds of bizarre stuff, clipping groups, masks duplicated into concurrent layers, even merging duplicated layers, to achieve the same thing. But it's been available for 21 years. So difficult is this concept to grasp apparently, that they actually allowed clipping to layer GROUPS (same effect which slows the graphics card) a few version ago,

Thank you so much for these tips! They are all new to me. The Luminance tip to control individual colours will be a great idea to try when post-processing infrared photo files.

Wonderful. I enjoyed all of it. I especially loved the technique to target shadows and highlights and I can see myself using that a lot. Thank you so much Jesús.

Nice tips! I just disagree with the trick about the luminosity mode curve level. It certainly works well for minor adjustments (when basically you quite don't need it), but it doesn't produce good results with major adjustments (bigger are the adjustments, more obvious are the errors). No matter whether the document is 8 or 16 bits, use the blending mode luminosity on the curves, produces wrong colors and shades. In my lessons, in fact, I teach this way, but then I suggest creating a saturation level anchored to the Curve level, to fix the saturation problems generated by the curves. This also helps the photographer to train the eye with colors, to understand itself which the correct saturation is, rather than leaving the work to the software.

So many great tricks here (and most even work in CS5). I keep forgetting that groups affect processing, they're not just organizational. Even 20 years ago, Photoshop had more features than I could learn about before the next version dropped.
