When this plays after you complete a major questline or a new companion joins your cause, it feels as though no matter how great the darkness of the Blight feels...that there is still hope left. And that hope rides on the Warden's shoulders, whoever they are, wherever they came from.
joe1stofall1st Ok, but that's because it introduced the different regions and races, dwarfs, the dalish elves, werewolfes, demons (demons not labeled as races though xD), etc. Basically, an amazing introduction to the thedas world. but Dragon age inquisition continues that and creates a story within it, providing that people already acknowledge the information from the other games.
yeah you can say it continues to some degree but for me and many others it just isnt as good or varied with the introduction of voiced protaganists you lose alot of dialog and what make your guy/girl yours .
joe1stofall1st Yes, I agree that dragon age origins had a lot of dialog and also more choices and options for you to continue it. And yes, I did like the feature in origins that the guy/girl to be yours you had to give them gifts and gifts so to increase the affection they had for you, not just your choices and actions. I hope, giving that inquisition trespasser dlc suggested a continuation, they make a rpg game with the features of origins and the new ones of the inquisition. And I also missed the feature where you decide what your characters must do when they are in combat.I think it was called tactic moves.

That's what elevated it to be my favorite video game. Getting to know, befriending the companions beside the campfire while this music is in the background was one of my favorite emotional moments in a video game.
When I hear this soundtrack, I think about all the time my warden spent with Alistair... It may sound stupid (and I'm kind of embarassed to admit it), but back then I litteraly fell in love with Alistair. Even today, there is just no other party member who can replace him in my heart XD
Personal opinion. I literally cannot think of a more beautiful relaxing song that also creates a piece of emotional attachment to its sound. This is by far one of the most perfect beautiful songs that "I" have heard in my entire life so far.
I never saw DA:O as especially dark. In some ways it had this very romantic, almost Tolkien-ish feel about it. It had this amazing motive of hopeless darkness that is yet pierced by light of hope.
Exactly. I never really felt that dark feeling until meeting Solas in Trespasser. That feeling you have in your gut when you have an idea of what’s to come but you’re terrified that you’d be right. That’s what I adore about the DA games. I never really felt that in Inquisition
@@gravytrainn Inquisition still had moments like these even before Trespasser, Hushed In Whispers is one of them, In Your Heart Shall Burn too. Inquisition is set 10 years after Origins and after the Blight so of course the atmosphere is lightened up, the point of Origins was to show how hopeless it could be.
Dammit I can never stop that one tear that gets into my eye and never manages to drop when listening to this. Being a game designer myself, I know the people who touched this game in any way must be feeling bittersweet about it in general. The sweetness obviously comes from the incredible, incomprehensible, unbelievable experience they've created and shared with people. Of course, millions of dollars are made, some rich dudes got even richer and couldn't care less but on the other side, probably Casey or any other creator, director, writer or even the tech artist junior who just put some minor UI sprites in the game must be feeling like a giant gigachad when they think about it. God would I feel accomplished...Amazing guys. Just amazing work for all the team behind this masterpiece. And the bitterness obviously should come from the state of BioWare and gaming industry in general. Upon the discovery of online, service-like games and the ability to sell texture jpg files for almost a full game price, the industry started to take a turn for the worse. After some time, 2 abominations called Battle Royale and MOBA were born and then the gaming industry changed forever. If I had worked on a game like this or Mass Effect for example, my heart would take a stab for every game they've released after these trilogies. These were the monumental peaks of BioWare juice. They've taken every good thing they did with older games like nwn, baldur, kotor etc and put them into these 2 franchaises at that time. Really brilliant, really bittersweet.

I just tried to be more civil and mention the big 2 ones we all know, without exactly naming them but whatever; I was talking about PUBG and LOL :) Didn't want to linger on technicalities, dates etc. The main culprits are those 2 and everybody in gaming industry knows it is what I meant.
Exactly my thoughts, great comment. Although im not a programmer or anything related to game design, I have taken a course in python and know how much work is required to make even something simple to work properly. I can't really imagine putting a game like this together. While modern games can be technically brilliant, they often feel flawed and have different ideas/mechanics stitched together making the experience feel disconnected. In this game everything feels more coherent. It is a great and consistent experience from start to finish, everything feels well thought out. It never really get boring, despite being such a long game. They knew what makes a game interesting and fun, and the game didn't have filler content for the purpose of prolonging the game or to incentives spending behaviour. Obviously as you said, this game was a complete package, with so much quality content and hours to play. It remains my favorite games ever and I don't think it will ever be beaten. In the 2010s and onwards, the gaming industry went downhill for too many reasons to list here. The People that made this game should be very proud, it is a masterpiece imo. Sadly, the world is not a fair place and they probably werent rewarded enough financially as they should, but if you were part of a team that made one of the greatest game of all time, I think that is worth alot, pride can sometimes be worth more than money.
Hearing this song play near the end of Act 2 in Dragon age 2 gave me such crushing nostalgia. I never wanted to be able to replay as a Warden more than when I saw that cutscene.
Origin offered DA:O free - And so, being curious, I installed it without hesitation. As soon as I hit character select (where a shorter version of this pops up), I was hooked *immediately*. Absolutely - Love - It.
This and Witcher 3 are arguably the best games I've ever played, and I've been gaming since the Atari. What I wouldn't give to play this again for the first time...
the story i had in origins will stay with me for the rest of my days i cant say that at all for many games and even less so these days which is beyond sad

It's a story called tale of the wanderer. About a wandering mercenary named Aedan Howe trying to find the next good paying job. He was once part of a large group but due to a Game of thrones situation his own father and his half brother (Aedan is a bastard) he eventually becomes part of a war between the mortals of Aster (my world) and Gaia (hell) his main goal is to return home to his wife and son.
The problem is that Hawke is a fully voiced character - they can interact with the Inquisitor no problem. However The Warden was a silent character. Do you remember all the voice choices for you to yell in combat? They'd need to bring every single one of them back to voice lines (and they can't for Robin Sachs cause he's dead). It just wouldn't work. If they used another actor it would break immersion. I understand completely why The Warden didn't show. As much as I love my Warden (I adore my elf self) I'm glad she didn't make an appearance. Plus, I probably would've fucked up her face like I did to Hawke.
That`s because he was a Warden. They fulfill their duty and descend into the Deep Roads to be forgotten forever, that`s the path they chose. They wouldn`t be as effective if they had something to lose.
Honestly I don't give a fuck which voice they could use for my Warden, we never had the possibility to choose Hawke or Shepard's voices and I always appreciate their voices. So that's not an excuse for me. I think all the wardens stuff, the Hero of Ferelden, Kieran (Morrigan son), etc... are just like a pain in the ass for screenwriters. Too many variables in the plot to consider. That's a shame anyway :(
This game was genuinely my first ever hi-res game. I got my computer, and got this game along with it to really see what it could do. Good god did it blow me away, that story, those characters, that world, that intensity. Then they released the expansion, which frankly was awesome, Amaranthine was such a good small city. And then they had to just mess up everything in DA:2. But damn did they do right in DA:O.
Every time I hear this it makes me want to play the game again. Same thing happens when I hear any music from Witcher 3 and Skyrim. *Oh and Enderal. My goodness that mod has an amazing score.
Bioware games have always had powerful and in depth storylines. I almost feel guilty for my actions in KOTOR I and Dragon Age Origins both. You also begin to become connected to the characters and almost actually care for them, I swear I almost cried in KOTOR II (pretty sure it's a Bioware videogame, correct me if not) when I saw the ruins of the Jedi order and temple ;( So with that being said, hats off to Bioware and thank you for many fond memories, looking forward to more
When I playing the game after prologue on the way after the witch let us go, I remember one sad girl asked me for help, she was looking for something and I was stupid I said I won't help you and she agreed. Damn, then I regretted it. It stayed with me for a long time, when I came back to help and guess what, I never found her. But I determined. I will find her and help her. It reminds of my decisions in real life when I refused to help one girl. I know it's minor but I was afraid so bad. I was so stupid and afraid
Let me tell you something. I did alot of bad things to alot of good people, and I didn't regret that much. But when I play this game... It's just... I don't know... I feel so sorry for all the things I have done. That feeling of Grey Warden's sacrifice, as they want to sacrifice everything just to protect others... It makes me... so sorry... I wish I may... change thing or two...

The last good Bioware soundtrack. They should never have ditched the Wizards of the Coast license. What resulted is a mediocre pulp rip-off fantasy, what could otherwise be an excellent addition to their Forgotten Realms portfolio.
