I purchased this 1930's Metalcraft Pickle Truck June of 2020 on eBay. It was a great looking piece and not missing anything. It had plenty of wear and tear, making it a great candidate for a restoration.
Thank you for taking the time to watch this restoration!

What a beautiful job. I love that truck. You are so talented. I am an elderly lady 87 and I can't sleep so, I watch your channel and it is so soothing to just sit and watch you restore all those toys. God bless you.
@DanielleWhite
@DanielleWhite 4 года назад
I'll put this at the top-level since I see a few comments about it: the NRA logo firmly dates the trucks to no earlier than 1933. That one, with the "we do our part" motto, was from the National Recovery Administration, a US Federal agency formed during the Great Depression, existing from 1933 until 1935.

As I have seen several of these restorations, I have been noticing that many of this manufacturers undercarriages have two, rear wheel mounting positions. Am guessing these chassis' are used on several different models, depending on the location of the rear wheel wells. Great job on breathing new life into these incredible toys.

Yes I remember services like the milkman, Charles chips, something akin to Swans, Fuller brush, and of course the much awaited ice cream man with his musical truck! Those days are gone, so sad because many older people could benefit from such services if they were affordable.

My apartment building was constructed in the 1960s. There is a small pass-through between the storage room and the hallway. It is now sealed, of course, but my landlord told me that its original purpose was for milk delivery. I do not know how long the service was maintained.

It never ceases to amaze me how.......cheap most companies have become in this day and age.......Not only the restoration videos on your channel show this, but all of them! Take this video, for example......It took some *real* effort to take this toy truck apart! It, like the majority of the products made in its time, was made to *last!* Compared to the majority of products of today, this thing was built like a tank! For example.......I'm a collector of Transformers.......I just got a Studio Series figure....Specifically the WW2 Hot Rod.......All it took to get that thing to fall apart was taking it out of the box! Granted, the pieces pegged back together, but the overall quality of it.......well........sucked! Instead of a joy, transforming it was a *nightmare* because simply lightly blowing on it would cause a piece or two to come off! The other figures in that line are alright, but that one is......not so great! I can imagine that in the hands of a child, that figure would quickly break and meet the fate that a great many products in this day and age meet........A one way trip to the dump.......
@ChipChannelRestorations

Thanks again for watching! I love the quality of these old trucks. If people had the pride in their work as what these manufacturers used to, I can only imagine the quality of toys out there today.

Another awesome restoration Mr. Chip. I noticed, are those real solid rubber tires? After you cleaned them in the soapy water, let them dry, they turned that nasty brown color like when you clean car tires in real life. I’m surprised you didn’t add a tire coating/wax to the tires to shine them up a little.

What a truly magical gift to present to a child during the time that this toy was made. The mystic way the headlights come on would doubtless have been as delightful for a child then, as it was for me now, just seeing you bring this toy back from the brink of destruction and loss.

Cool truck, it's a shame they don't make toys like this anymore. Very nice restoration Chip.

I like those older models with the screw in head light. primative but functional. Would never pass these days with all the safety regulations. Funny what could be passed off as a safe toy back then vs now. nice job.

Am curious in the intro whe n you selected the one truck the camera focuses in on the red truck behind it. Have you gotten round to doing it yet?

When you install the decals, try giving the surface a squirt of water or windex. It allows you to easily remove any bubbles and for a short time, move them into the exact position you want them in. When you get them where you want them, pat dry with a cloth. Awesome vids!

Was this the Tool Rescue Edition? Something about this seemed a lot like Tool Rescue to me. And where is Mr. Kitty? couldn't be bothered?, no treats (or cream)? Still it turned out very nice although you had me going on that color for the wheels at first, but when the powder coat kicked, the color came out just right. I noticed you often leave the axles a bit too long, is there some reason for this?

Don't know why but i find it very relaxing watching you sandblast the parts? I have used a sandblast cabinet many times in an old job but never thought of it before now?? Thanks.

See, now this one I'd have cleaned up and made necessary repairs, plated the brightwork, because it had 90% of it's paint. I'd have shined that up and let it stand on its own merits with the rest of it refreshed. But carry on. I'm sure it's proud of it's shiny new coat. 🙂 Happy toys make the world a better place.
